I like the people I have spoken to here and I feel they are honest and provide good service, so it is a shame I had to switch to a different repair shop. It is just too difficult to get an appointment there. I called three mornings in a row, because they don't take appointments. First call, first serve, or something like that. On the third day I got through ten minutes after they opened and was told he had 20 people standing in front of him and I would have to try again the next day. Sort of reminds me of those radio station giveaways: Be the fifth caller and win concert tickets! But if you are the fourth or sixth caller, better luck next time! Well, I called a different repair shop the next morning and they got me in that day for the work. I guess everybody wins: I have a garage that takes appointments, they have a new customer for both our vehicles, and Dexter Discount Tire gets to continue to run their fun "Be the fifth customer" giveaway contests. Showed up without an appt and a low tire. Within minutes I was in a bay having the tire fixed. Shop manager and manager were so pleasant and friendly. Gave me pricing for snow tires and explained the difference in the tires. Never felt put out or imposing. They have gained a new customer long term. I want to start off by saying what a great family run business this is!! Don and Leah helped me with some out of stock tires that were no where to be found nationwide. They are a full service shop not a tire wholesale distributor so the fact that they went out of their way to help me and ship tires 2500 miles away to me in Las Vegas shows their integrity. We come to this part of Maine almost every year. And, we have cars that have been ravaged by the streets of New York. When we've gotten stuck, we get our cars into Dexter Discount Tire. They do more services than tires--and they do them well! Prices are low compared to NY, and the guys here are totally friendly and welcoming to humans. One of them is a bit afraid of dogs, and he's told us. So, we keep our dogs away from him and head down to Noah's Landing for a meal while our car-of-the-year is repaired. hi i only take my vehicles to Don at dexter discount tire, its not just tires, these guys do everything, from tires to engines, they take care of me and my wife, they continue to do amazing work and get the vehicles in and out as soon as they can, and he will give you a ride home to and from the garage so you don't have to wait at the garage, Don is a fantastic business man and an amazing human being very sweet and understanding, he even takes payments, if he knows you well, he will allow you to run up a bill and do payments to get the vehicle paid off, i really enjoy dexter discount tire and i will always only take my vehicles to him. read more

The new tires are bad. They only lasted 5 months before they needed replacing. Maybe others have had been luck with this business, but these tires aren't cheap and they've only been on the car for 5 months. read more

Being a young woman I've been overcharged and lied to about problems with my car at many places, but here they tell if they can fix something or refer me to someone who can. The prices are extremely reasonable! The employees have never been anything but helpful (not common when dealing with mechanics). These people have the best prices on tires, but they are sloppy with other routine jobs. I would not go back to them because of that issue but if you just need some good tires for the best price, they are a good place to get some. The owner made me feel that he is honest and that he was not trying to sell me more tire than I needed, unlike the other places that I got quotes from. We didn't go with the cheapest tires but we certainly didn't go with the super-high-performance ones that the other guys were trying to force on us. The problems came when I got my oil changed and asked about getting other work done there. The first time I got my oil changed, they forgot to put a sticker on the window and also did not rotate the tires. The second time, I asked them to check all of the fluids and they neglected to do so. We went back there again to ask them about our window malfunctioning (it wouldn't stay up properly) and they told us that we needed to have the whole mechanism in the door replaced along with some other stuff and that it would cost about a thousand dollars. We decided to deal with the inconvenience for a while and I'm glad that I did. We replaced the battery about a year later and when that was done, the window began to work fine. I suspect (uneducated opinion here, of course) that it was a computer issue and it was "reset" by the death and replacement of the battery. Anyhow, that is reason enough for me to go elsewhere for my service and probably for my next set of tires, also. read more

I have actually gone here for tires 2 years ago and tire prices were ok. Just recently I came here to have my cars windshield washer fluid fixed. They supposedly looked at my car and told me the washer reservoir was cracked and I would have to get that from the dealer. I then drove 40 min to bangor to buy the reservoir and bring it back to them. About 1 hour later they come out and tell me that it wasn't the reservoir it was the pump attached to it. They order me one while I waited even longer and found out it was the wrong one. Then after 6 1/2 hours of sitting there they tell me I will have to order one from the dealer!!! I wasted my gas to go back n forth to the dealer for a part that I never needed to begin with and now I have to drive an 1 1/2hrs to the dealer from my house the next day to return the part I didn't need and order the right part. They also did an alignment to my car that was way off!! I know this because my car was shaking so bad on the highway it was getting dangerous. And it was not snow and ice in the wheel wells either. I finally was able to get it too real mechanics to have everything done right. Then too top it off the only thing that the person supposedly in charge could to say to me was AHHHHH I don't know. DO NOT GET WORK DONE AT THIS PLACE!! HORRIBLE!!!! read more

I ordered 2 new tires from here and had them mounted. They asked me if I wanted to save the old tires, and I said yes, for spares. When the employee brought my old tires back, he had ripped the bead on one of them so badly that it was un-useable. I have changed a lot of tires over the years, thousands, and ripped maybe one bead. But, OK. I chalk it up to inexperience, or bad luck, say nothing, pay and leave. 3 months pass, I go back and make an appointment for 2 more of the same tire for the front of my vehicle, and an alignment. Appointment was for 9 AM, they didn't get to us until 10 or later. I spoke to the manager about what the alignment covers, I have replaced the entire front end from the steering box to the ground, entirely new, so it needed a full alignment. His first words were to question the ownership of the truck, as my dad was with me, and paid the bill. As if that makes any difference at all. I told him the truck had bump steer and needed the camber adjusted, not just toe in. He complained that "Shims cost money", and that it "took more time". Hello.... a 4 wheel alignment is a 4 wheel alignment, including caster camber and toe. He agreed to check it, even my Dad said, if it costs more, then do it, because these tires are expensive, we cant have improper alignment chewing them up. The manager said he would check it out when it was up on the rack..like he was doing me a favor for doing what the job entails in the first place. OK. So, they put the truck in. My Dad and I sit outside on a low stone wall and watch the entire operation. The employee mounts the tires, puts the alignment racks on the wheels, sets the toe-in, and sends it out. He didn't even LOOK AT the camber, because he would have had to lift the hood to see the shim packs. I drive the vehicle home, and it's MUCH worse than before the alignment. I HAD TO SET MY CAMBER MYSELF AND SHIM IT, and it was 1/2 INCH POSITIVE CAMBER on the pass. side wheel. Funny thing, how a tire dealer who charges almost 300 bucks for 2 aggressive tires conveniently 'FORGETS' to do 2/3 of the alignment. Also, the tires were identical in every way, but the second time they were much cheaper..makes me wonder if we got used wrong the first time around. Will not be returning to this fly by night operation, they have inexperienced employees, high prices, and perpetuate a need for themselves by selling expensive tires and fudging alignments. Next time i will travel down Rte 7 towards Corinna a bit more and get the job done correctly. read more
