I've never witnessed discrimination or anything like these other reviews. They take underage drinking seriously, which I appreciate and respect. Cops float in and out throughout the night. Witnessed a fight once, didn't get too out of hand cause the bouncers shut it down really quick. IF you can legally drink, they have $2 shots and other happy hour deals. You have to go during the sweet spot which is like 11 pm - 1 am on Saturday. People who paid to get in will be more likely to dance. Fridays when ladies are free it's just creepy guys watching girls dance. They play hispanic music as well, and it's nice to dance bachata with your date/boyfriend/friend etc cause there are other couples doing so as well. It's not bad.

Went to attend their 5/1/26 conjunto concert featuring two bands. I got there at 7:30pm only to be…read moretold that the bands wouldn't go on-stage until 11:00pm. Are you kidding me? The DJ was playing conjunto polkas and cumbias but way too loud. And the smoke machine was chocking everyone. He'd play about eight cumbias in a row then about eight polkas in a row -- not a good DJ. And hey, this is South Texas. Everyone loves both conjunto and country but the DJ didn't play any country. I miss Whiskey River. We need a dance hall that plays good country, tejano and conjunto. For this 5/1/26 event, there were so many reserved tables that all other attendees struggled for seating. Until they turn down the volume and play a mix of music, I won't be back. The female bartender that night was very professional and courteous. Good for her. She was the only highlight of the evening.

My wife and I went last night and had a great time. We love to dance, but I must say that watching…read morethe locals dance was over the top insane. They are very good. Security is very tight but it not a problem if your not acting stupid or trying to start trouble. Everyone was very friendly. If your in Corpus Christi and you want to dance this is the place to go. We were a little nervous after some of the bad reviews but I can tell you that they must be bogus.

July 5, 2019 (Friday night) -- Went in early right at 8:00pm when they opened. Note that I'm 66 and…read moremy dance partner is 57, that's why we go so early. The crowd stayed thin until about 9:30pm when it started to increase. By 10:00pm there was a good size crowd. Dancing from 8:00-10:00pm was fun and the dance floor wasn't crowded. But the music wasn't so great. There was no DJ at that time just a playlist that had already been loaded of so-so songs. Although, having a DJ wouldn't have made any difference since I've never been a fan of their DJ. At 10:00pm things changed a lot. If you don't mind seeing a lesbian dry-hump one girl after another on the dance floor as the crowd cheered her on, then Whiskey River (WR) is your place after 10:00pm. Otherwise, forget about it. We stayed until about 10:30pm just so I could see what really happens there after 10:00pm and so I could give you (my review reader) my observations without bias. At least on this night after 10:00pm the music is all New Country and Hip Hop. Would I recommend WR -- yes, if you go from 8:00-10:00pm. After that it's a freak show. The music from 8:00-10:00pm was mostly traditional style country music but some of the songs were radio songs versus dance hall songs. So what's my credentials? Well, I'm a professional mobile DJ and country-western dance instructor. Music and dancing are what I do. But I'm admittedly old, so keep that in mind as you evaluate my review. Going to WR is about what you like, not what I like. If you're a couples-dancer who enjoys a great atmosphere and good dance floor, then WR is your kind of place between 8:00om and 10:00pm. If you're single or a youngish couple who doesn't mind the freak-show aspect of WR, then by all means go and have fun.

And a few old school video games and pinball machines. $12 for an armband for the teen to play. But it's a bar. We did not try the food, but the beer on tap was cold. The games are now located on the ground floor, featuring far less than before. However, it seems the $12 "entry" for an all you can play wristband is not necessarily enforced so the two even out. Featuring mostly classic one player games and pinball machines (which, to be fair is the sole reason I went) you are still able to get in quite a lot of play! Just don't expect the whole shebang. For now, or at least when I was there, the upstairs was now more of a dance scene. Well, it should have been, we observed it entirely dark and not a soul in sight so either it's a late night thing or people simply don't go up there anymore. The rooftop was also closed this night, which again may just be a weekend thing. Returning back to the first floor, we played plenty of games, and ordered plenty of drinks. As far as service and price, honestly couldn't be beat! We had a great bartender and all of them seemed to be good at working the crowd. Be prepared for banter, and people who are simply there to chill and have a good time. A fun spot for sure, but maybe not my first choice when looking for a night out. Rather, the place you end up AFTER a night out. Solid middle of the road for me.
