Very good, very unique. The young gentleman serving us was very informative about each beer and how they were made. He even recommended a great local place for lunch. Recommended for sure!

I've also just discovered it's now called the Allanwater Brewhouse! A group of us visited here on Saturday night. I'd never been to Bridge of Allan but was pleasantly surprised at what a nice area it seemed to be. The brewery is off the main road and it can be a little confusing where to go but thankfully we stumbled through the right door (look for people milling around in the beer garden, and then go in there!). Inside it's a pretty interesting space to sit in - high ceiling, lots of beers adorning the walls as well as beer paraphernalia and a cosy, well worn vibe. For a better description of what it's like read Jenni G's review! We ended up sitting right by the fire (which, although it wasn't on was still warm) on beer kegs with cushions which was a really cosy spot. For a Saturday night it was busy but not heaving so it was good to be able to get a seat and have a chat without it being too noisy or cramped. I didn't go up the bar myself so can't comment on the staff or prices, but they seemed to have an interesting selection of beers (mango) and I enjoyed my oj & lemonade (haha!).

Love myself a fine single malt. Although Aberfeldy isn't one of my usual go-tos, I was happy to…read moretour the distillery -- and more importantly, sample their 21-year single malt. The facility and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The tour itself was a little dry; adding a tasting halfway through might help liven things up. Prices were reasonable, and overall it was a pleasant experience. Saluti!

Busier than the first two as it is one of the bigger and more popular makers. George our guide was excellent! How could he not be as he was wearing a kilt! They strictly don't allow cameras or video in distillery (gotta keep the craft secrets). Dewar's is the 3rd or 4th largest whisky maker (according to George). That said, Aberfeldy (single malt) is the only one made at this distillery. Dewar's is now made in Glasgow but the base for all blends starts here and the Dewar's whiskeys are available here. For the Rabbie's tour you have the choice of one or two tastings. Go for two -the 19 year single cask tasting alone is worth the about $17 USD. You also get a proper whisky glass with the 2 tastings. After the 19 year taste, the 12 year couldn't compare although I've had it before and liked it. They have a spacious cafe, lounge area and gift shop. The drive to this distillery is also very scenic! Definitely worth a visit!

Interestingly, its now owned by Diageo which is known for their Johhnie Walker Blended Whiskey. The distillery is located near fresh spring water and abundant peat from the nearby bogs. It is also the highest distillery in Scotland, sitting in the mountains of the Highlands. The history dates back to the late 18th Century and though its changed owners multiple times you still get a deep sense of tradition. They have aging barrels stained black from generations of whisky sitting around as decoration. 30 Year Old: 11 quid a dram, they told me they are never going to use the specific combination of barrel, temperature, timing so this batch was very special. I finished it so much the glass looked like it was brand new when I gave it back. There's also a large giftshop with clothing, accessories, home goods, foods, and of course a multitude of different Whiskys. They also had an interesting "bottle your own" 12 year with custom label for 130 pounds.

This was a good decision as you never know how long your journey will take while traveling throughout the various parts of Scotland. They have a tasting room inside and many interesting offerings to explore. The prices may seem high at first but it's because they are pouring a lot more than the usual 25ml pour. While they have a lot of flight options, we chose to build our own with options that are only available at the distillery. Why try something you can get elsewhere. I love that they were paired with chocolate. That really set the experience a part. I wish they served smaller portions so you could try more, but it was a good experience and we appreciated the knowledgeable staff!
