We were here back in 2019 when the distillery did conduct tours pre-pandemic era. The tour was great in how they let you sample and understand their product. My favorite was their cream whiskey which I wished was sold in the US. I now have special ordered it to be shipped, so we can enjoy it from home. I do hope one day they are able to recover from whatever losses they suffered from the pandemic, so they are able to give tours again. We will continue to support by buying through the retailer online we use.

There is ample parking in a lot across the street. I highly recommend taking a tour. The tour that I took was fun and informative. Our guide, Tara, was friendly and knowledgeable of the distillery and the whisky-making processes. The grounds are beautiful! The distillery is still making whisky the old-fashioned way. They no longer malt barley here (they get it delivered from another company located near Inverness) but they do the rest right there. You won't see a lot of electronic equipment controlling the equipment but you will see a lot of valves and workers scurrying about making adjustments. To me, the tradition of whisky-making being kept alive at Edradour makes it worth visiting...and keeping a bottle or two in your bar!

But just fyi when we went, the street that it is on was closed off for the public to walk. So just keep that in mind when thinking about parking. Highlights of the tour were some of the art and presentations they have on the history and making of Scotch. I also really enjoyed how they gave you a sheet that shows examples of some common tasting notes you can expect from each region. I learned that Islay Whiskey was my favorite region to sip from just because of how smoky their Whiskey can be. I had a great time. After the tour they give you an example of each region so you can compare and contrast. On top of everything, the people working there were very enthusiastic and friendly. If we ever came back to Edinburgh I might even want to go again just because of the fun experience.

Then, we had a tasting towards the end and got to taste some really good single malts while learning how to taste them. The staff inside were super friendly. Getting to this place is a big task though, and the bigger and more difficult task is getting out of there if you have don't have your own car. We reached the spot using Uber but we couldn't find any Uber or taxi service to get out and into the city. There is a bus stop right opposite and the bus did not stop. We tried asking the security guard for some help as the staff left and no one were in there, but he kinda shooed us away. That was very rude. Then, we had to walk a lot to reach a train station.

This is a live distillery so it was fantastic to experience a functioning business and the steps and history behind the production of this mellow whiskey. My only complaint is that machines are very loud so it was difficult at times to hear our tour guide so be sure to get up close to him/her, they won't be creeped out or maybe they will be who cares you have paid for the experience. At the end of the tour we got to relax in the bar and have a whiskey, it really was a lovely end to a great week in a very cool city!

I had no idea whiskey distilling is so complicated. After the tasting I asked if they could call us a cab back to Saint Andrew's hotel. The tour director, a pleasant German man I can't remember his name said, taxi? Hell no. I'm getting off in 15 minutes and I drive right past there on my way home. He directed us to wait in the cafe and brought us two drams of Kingsbarns flagship whiskey called Doocot to sip while he locked up. He chatted about his love for whiskey distilling all the way to our drop off. He loves his job no doubt. An amazing experience from start to finish and I highly recommend you visit here. Short TLDR version: From first email to when Michael dropped us off at our hotel after our tour, everything was perfect. Everything. Do not hesitate to book With Drams Scotland, they will take care of you. Read on below if you want more details. We are a demanding group of Americans and we wanted to see Scotland and drink Whiskey, a lot of whiskey. I emailed with 4-5 tour companies asking about options for travel and distillery visits and to be fair, several companies seemed like they would have worked out. What stood out about Drams was Ann Marie seemed to innately know what we wanted, and her proposed itinerary blew the competition out of the water. Drams does many different kinds of tours. Spending time chatting with Michael, our tour guide and drunk wrangler, he told us about the many different kinds of tours they offer. I saw on Yelp that many reviews are for one or two day trips, and thats cool, but we did a 5 day trip and I honestly wish it could have been longer. If you are looking for a Highlander tour, they do that. Want to see Loch Ness? They do that too. You and 300 other Americans will be there taking pictures of a large body of water, brilliant. If you want to see Scotland the real, American way, well they have that tour nailed down and I highly recommend it. Whiskey! 5 days, no mercy. 12+ distilleries, private tastings, private dinners, local pubs, sheep, great B&B's, great sites, hikes to castles, trips to the coast, two drunken ferry rides, more sheep, scary small local roads, fish and chips (get the cod), pies (the meat kind), pints and pints of beer, cool towns, and the best part, avoiding other tourists. You know whats better than snootily sipping whiskey in an overpriced bar in America? Drinking it strait out of the cask in Scotland. You seriously do this at several distilleries. To really be able to see the great distilleries you need a good guide. We were able to tour Balvenie, a truly amazing and very private tour, because Michael has to connections to get you in there. We were drinking 50 year old Lagavulin at 930am in their barrel house cause we wanted to start our day off right. We played pool with the locals in the town pub till they closed the bar, while the tourists ate at their tourist trap hotels. We saw the castle from Monty Python, some sheep, where they filmed Braveheart (do not discuss Braveheart with Michael, he will tell you the truth about William Wallace and try to convince you that Robert the Bruce was the real hero), hiked to a cool castle that I do not remember the name of, learned many local sayings that I arrogantly use at home now, and laughed so hard the whole time our faces hurt. And whiskey. If you are thinking of booking a Whiskey tour, do it, and do it with Drams Scotland, you will not be disappointed.

Prior reviews on Yelp aren't accurate as prices are much higher now and they didn't seem to offer whiskey glasses with tastings anymore. It started at 5 GBP for a single sampling of their whiskey, while flights started at about 20 GBP, so not exactly cheap. Still, the grounds were welcoming and the 12-year old Blair Athol whiskey sampled was decent. It's no Johnnie Walker, but still a fine Scottish whiskey. While whiskey tastings aren't something I'm really into, many in our tour group that went seemed to love the experience.
