We were looking for local breweries and found Allanwater. We arrived at noon mid-week and were…read moreseated immediately. We were offered tasters of each brew and settled on two we liked. Very good, very unique. The young gentleman serving us was very informative about each beer and how they were made. He even recommended a great local place for lunch. Recommended for sure!

As the designated driver, it's going to be hard for me to enjoy a brewery enough to give it 5…read morestars, so 4 it is (for now!). I've also just discovered it's now called the Allanwater Brewhouse! A group of us visited here on Saturday night. I'd never been to Bridge of Allan but was pleasantly surprised at what a nice area it seemed to be. The brewery is off the main road and it can be a little confusing where to go but thankfully we stumbled through the right door (look for people milling around in the beer garden, and then go in there!). Inside it's a pretty interesting space to sit in - high ceiling, lots of beers adorning the walls as well as beer paraphernalia and a cosy, well worn vibe. For a better description of what it's like read Jenni G's review! We ended up sitting right by the fire (which, although it wasn't on was still warm) on beer kegs with cushions which was a really cosy spot. For a Saturday night it was busy but not heaving so it was good to be able to get a seat and have a chat without it being too noisy or cramped. I didn't go up the bar myself so can't comment on the staff or prices, but they seemed to have an interesting selection of beers (mango) and I enjoyed my oj & lemonade (haha!).

I called to confirm my booking at The Old Brewery on the day and it went a little something like…read morethis. - 'If you could get here as early as you can, that would be great. The kitchen closes at 7.' This wasn't exactly convenient; my table was booked for 7. 'You didn't know this till now?' I didn't. We were to get there whenever we could and would be fed regardless. This wasn't the greatest start. When we turned up, the waitress was abrupt in saying that there wasn't a booking under my name. We had a little wait while she checked and eventually found my table. There was no apology for the confusion. By this point we'd realised that this wasn't the best place for our quiet staff night out. The place was very loud, it even had a DJ blasting out Christmas songs in the corner. Considering we had booked for dinner, it would have been nice to know that it would be this kind of night. One of our staff members is hard of hearing and requires hearing aids. She couldn't endure the noise and had to leave early. If I'd had a heads up, I would've opted for somewhere a little quieter. The food was large in portion size but bland and uninteresting. It's just like a Wetherspoons and the food is underwhelming pub food. - Fine for a lunch if you're really very skint and eating out, but not for a special occasion. Finally, we got the bill and the staff had forgotten to deduct our pre-paid deposit; a fitting end to the night. My first experience of The Old Brewery wasn't a good one and I can't say I'd recommend a visit.

Inside the decor is a mix of old and new with metal beams, ornate mirrors mixed with funky lighting and plasma TV's. By day, go there for a quiet drink or a bite to eat. The food is traditional Scottish and UK fayre with lots of Pub Favorites. It's very reasonably priced and the portions are hearty! At night, once the kitchen closes, the Old Brewery turns into a lively bar, the lights get turned down and the music gets turned up! This place gets busy at weekends, so finding a seat can be tricky on a Saturday night! On midweek evenings they hold special quizzes and events which are very popular. Also, the hand-dryers in the toilets are very impressive! Overall a good all-round venue for food, drink and a bit of dancing!
