    Aroma testing and gin tasting
    E. K. S.

My wife and I took the Aroma Alchemy: Gin Tasting Masterclass today and had a fantastic experience! We both like gin but have never done a deep dive into the subject. This class was fun, challenging, and had just the right amount of nerdy, detailed facts. Simran lead the tour and she has her Masters in Brewing and Distilling so she knows her stuff! Her presentations, as she lead us through the facility, were professional, interesting, and informative. It was so illuminating to learn about all of the botanicals used in gin making. Simran did a great job of listening to questions and giving thoughtful and compelling answers. Alice lead the Alchemy section in a well appointed classroom. We were challenged to identify some of the smells important to gin and it was hard! We got to sample four of the gins and they were thoughtfully paired with little bites. There was lots of smelling and tasting on this tour. The curriculum really forces you to slow down and deeply process the experience. The tour ended with two perks: a self-assembled cocktail spritzer to take home and a gin and tonic in the currently unopened rooftop bar and botanical garden. I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about gin and spend an hour and a half connecting to their senses.

We had a great time while visiting Edinburgh on our trip to Scotland, and one of the highlights, which is one of the recommended things to do, was go to the Edinburgh Distillery. I personally hate Gin, but my girlfriend loves it, and the day before we had Whiskey and Scotch, so today we went to do this. The guide we had was really fun, he was personable and knowledgable, he did a great job with the tour and tastings. The place itself is in a basement, so it is a small little spot just to showcase the early days, history, and tasting table with gift shop. Fun times, good memories, good choice to do for tourists

If you are into Gin this one should definitely be on your list! On the guided tour (max. 12 guests, need to pre-book) you will get to know the history of Gin, how it came to Edinburgh and how it all started in the Edinburgh Gin Distillery - really not too long ago... Glasses with the 14 main ingredients will be passed through the rows to smell (and even taste if you dare). You will be allowed a look behind the scenes and say hello to Flora and Calledonia, their two copper stills producing finest Gin every day at 80% vol. which will be brought down to the usual values before bottling. The tour concludes with a glas of Gin & Tonic for every guest in one of the tiny but cosy rooms without natural light. Really recommend this one!

If you're in Edinburgh, definitely do a tour here. Regardless whether you're in for a weekend or you've lived here your whole life. I'm so surprised there aren't hundreds of reviews for this place given there was a three month wait before I could get in the door. I came with my partner to fill the afternoon with a fun activity as the weather started to turn. Not kidding, I had to book three months in advance for this. Located just off princes street, we did a one hour gin tour covering the history of gin, a tour of the distillery (it's tiny, I think they've since expanded to the west lothian area) and a G&T to finish it off. For £10 it was a short but fun and interesting way to spend a Sunday afternoon. There are more tours you can do as well such as making your own gin which I'm definitely going to be doing in the future. Highly recommended if you enjoy gin or just want a chill activity to fill your weekend.

Recently went on the gin connoisseur tour, although I'm not a massive fan of gin, I was going with people who were. And I had a great time! The environment is quirky and welcoming. Booths inside caves and great lighting made it really atmospheric. We had Abbye as our tour guide and she was fab! Really funny and made the history of gin stories really interesting. We got to smell all the various ingredients, was fun to hear how different peoples sense of smell was from biscuits to farm animals for the same ingredient! We were taken in to the distillery itself which was really small but was all we needed to see. Then the really fun part - tasting the gin! We got to try 6 different gins, 2 were neat and very strong and too much for me as a non gin drinker but others were loving them! The 3 flavoured gin liqueurs were more my style and delicious. Also a glass of gin and tonic with orange peel which I surprisingly enjoyed. We also learned how to clear your nose pallet - didn't know there was such a thing! Added bonus was a free 20cl bottle of flavoured liqueur and 10% off in the shop after the tour - perfect for yourself or to get some presents in. For not really being in to gin, I have to say it was a great couple of hours and I really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend this with a few friends.

Great tour! I really enjoyed the tasting and seeing how quickly different gin changes with a garnish or tonic. A fun tour when visiting.

Tiny tiny shop. Super nice people who kept it open to sell us a bottle. But why do they close at 4:30pm? Too early.

We reached the spot using Uber but we couldn't find any Uber or taxi service to get out and into the city. There is a bus stop right opposite and the bus did not stop. We tried asking the security guard for some help as the staff left and no one were in there, but he kinda shooed us away. That was very rude. Then, we had to walk a lot to reach a train station.

Excellent tour that pours shame on our Jameson tour. This is a live distillery so it was fantastic to experience a functioning business and the steps and history behind the production of this mellow whiskey. My only complaint is that machines are very loud so it was difficult at times to hear our tour guide so be sure to get up close to him/her, they won't be creeped out or maybe they will be who cares you have paid for the experience. At the end of the tour we got to relax in the bar and have a whiskey, it really was a lovely end to a great week in a very cool city!

Yes, I had some difficulty understanding the Scottish accent, but it's okay. The tour started with a quick coffee break at Calendar. Then we stopped at Trossachs Woollen Mill- This is possibly the most easiest way to spot highland cows in Scotland. The second stop was somewhere in the Scottish Highlands: beautiful surroundings, so soothing. Then we stopped at Commando Memorial, Fort Augustus Locks, and Loch Ness View Point, Fort Augustus. Each stop was a 15-45 min stop, depending on how big that attraction was. Loch Ness (Fort Augustus) was 2 hrs+ stop, as a few folks had to go on a boat tour. The bus was comfortable, and the guide kept telling us about stories of the highlands, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and stuff. Overall, it was a tiring but fun day, knowing many facts, stories, and visiting such a beautiful part of the world.

The reason Michael and Drams Scotland are getting 5 stars (5 green dots on Trip Advisor) is simple,…read morethey did everything right. Short TLDR version: From first email to when Michael dropped us off at our hotel after our tour, everything was perfect. Everything. Do not hesitate to book With Drams Scotland, they will take care of you. Read on below if you want more details. We are a demanding group of Americans and we wanted to see Scotland and drink Whiskey, a lot of whiskey. I emailed with 4-5 tour companies asking about options for travel and distillery visits and to be fair, several companies seemed like they would have worked out. What stood out about Drams was Ann Marie seemed to innately know what we wanted, and her proposed itinerary blew the competition out of the water. Drams does many different kinds of tours. Spending time chatting with Michael, our tour guide and drunk wrangler, he told us about the many different kinds of tours they offer. I saw on Yelp that many reviews are for one or two day trips, and thats cool, but we did a 5 day trip and I honestly wish it could have been longer. If you are looking for a Highlander tour, they do that. Want to see Loch Ness? They do that too. You and 300 other Americans will be there taking pictures of a large body of water, brilliant. If you want to see Scotland the real, American way, well they have that tour nailed down and I highly recommend it. Whiskey! 5 days, no mercy. 12+ distilleries, private tastings, private dinners, local pubs, sheep, great B&B's, great sites, hikes to castles, trips to the coast, two drunken ferry rides, more sheep, scary small local roads, fish and chips (get the cod), pies (the meat kind), pints and pints of beer, cool towns, and the best part, avoiding other tourists. You know whats better than snootily sipping whiskey in an overpriced bar in America? Drinking it strait out of the cask in Scotland. You seriously do this at several distilleries. To really be able to see the great distilleries you need a good guide. We were able to tour Balvenie, a truly amazing and very private tour, because Michael has to connections to get you in there. We were drinking 50 year old Lagavulin at 930am in their barrel house cause we wanted to start our day off right. We played pool with the locals in the town pub till they closed the bar, while the tourists ate at their tourist trap hotels. We saw the castle from Monty Python, some sheep, where they filmed Braveheart (do not discuss Braveheart with Michael, he will tell you the truth about William Wallace and try to convince you that Robert the Bruce was the real hero), hiked to a cool castle that I do not remember the name of, learned many local sayings that I arrogantly use at home now, and laughed so hard the whole time our faces hurt. And whiskey. If you are thinking of booking a Whiskey tour, do it, and do it with Drams Scotland, you will not be disappointed.

My worry was for nothing because we were the only ones on the tour. I'm not going to lie, it felt a bit awkward because I'm an anti-social introvert who gets stunned when asked a question by a stranger. I'm sure strangers think I'm a dolt. My fiancé is the kind of socially awkward that says weird things or makes jokes that don't land. Jamie, our amazing tour guide, was very energetic and told a lot of bad jokes (which he warned us he would), so the combination of these factors was actually kind of hilarious. We started the tour early, since we were there early and we were the only ones there. I appreciated that because we had a tight reservation for dinner and could mosey on over there now instead of swift walking. The tour started in the invention room. At first, when reading the description of the tour, I thought this part would be corny but honestly it was fascinating. I love hearing a story about people trying to make their life passion work out. We then moved onto the actual distillery part, making sure to finish our G&Ts before entering. Again, a very interesting tour seen through the eyes of Pickering's Gin. The only problem I had was Jamie asked us to smash a piece of juniper between our fingers and I may have taken that too seriously and needed to wash my hands the rest of the tour but again, not his fault, mine for being too literal of a person. The tasting at the end was the best part. I love gin. It's my favorite alcohol. And the gins here are fantastic. We actually got to try their whisky too. Jamie was so kind in giving us a sample when he found out we had just gotten engaged. I bought a few mini bottles and almost had them confiscated at the airport. Luckily, I was able to scratch by with all my bottles. The security guy told me I was a lucky girl. That's right, lucky enough to have all my mini bottles of this amazing gin.
