For someone who can't remember a lot of these sweets it was really nice to see all of them together in one shop. Bains sweet shop isn't expensive and the owner John is such a lovely man, he is so charismatic, passionate and takes the time to chat and pass on his knowledge of making Tablet. He even went the extra mile and sent me the recipe which is amazing! I plan to make it with my niece and hope it turns out half as good as Bains tablet. The kids love it, I love it and I will be stocking up on treats for xmas or buying gift vouchers for a later date. I highly recommend visiting and don't worry if you can't get to the shop you can always order online and buy some of those old favourites from your childhood as a gift for yourself or for someone else you know who has a sweet tooth. She was able to match people with their local sweets and talk a lot about the changes sweets have gone through over the years (no more cocaine on our sweeties!!). The shop is dog friendly and had some water and food outside for any visiting pooches!

It was hands down the BEST whiskey ice cream I've ever had. While inside this charming wee shop, I noticed they were also selling fresh local strawberries and blackberries. I picked up a container, and the kind lady at the register asked with a smile, "Would you like us to wash them for you, in case you'd like to snack on them?" Such a thoughtful touch! I ate the berries on our way back to Edinburgh and can honestly say that I never had better blackberries. They were so flavorful and sweet - not like the ones you buy in a grocery store. I walked walked out after alerting my friend to what was said. the girl with dark hair shouts out the door bye and thanks. Not a nice way to treat customers especially visitors to the town. Some staff training would probably benefit the employees. I myself have worked in retail and my friend works in security so somehow I don't think we are going to steal. Will never visit again and will make friends and family aware of the poor customer service received

With the same garish exterior that most of these places have, the sweetie shop has much more in substance than any of its competitors i have ventured, pocket money in hand into. With a whole wall and i mean a whole wall, devoted to jars of loose sweets, this place is a total dream. There is enough sugar in this shop to sweeten an ocean. In addition to the loose sweets there is also the usual assortment of ice cream, choc bars, crisps and the like. A place that is well worth the visit, just don't tell your dentist!!

Better priced than the establishments of this kind in the city centre and with just the same selection, you will leave with an ice cream in one paw, a mix-up of candy crayons and strawberries in the other and chocolate smeared over your face. It will make you feel like a kid who, well, had just been inside a candy shop. And how can that be a bad thing? It is ADHD enducing, but an altogether enjoyable experience. After all, it's tedious to forever be watching those E-numbers.
