With the same garish exterior that most of these places have, the sweetie shop has much more in substance than any of its competitors i have ventured, pocket money in hand into. With a whole wall and i mean a whole wall, devoted to jars of loose sweets, this place is a total dream. There is enough sugar in this shop to sweeten an ocean. In addition to the loose sweets there is also the usual assortment of ice cream, choc bars, crisps and the like. A place that is well worth the visit, just don't tell your dentist!!

Overstocked, over priced and I walked out without buying anything because like I told my boyfriend- there's nothing I miss that much from the states that would bring me to pay as much as they ask for in these shops. (Especially when shops like Poundland and TK Maxx have started stocking a few American goodies!) My family is visiting this summer, so I'll ask them to bring a few of my favourites with them. Bains sweet shop isn't expensive and the owner John is such a lovely man, he is so charismatic, passionate and takes the time to chat and pass on his knowledge of making Tablet. He even went the extra mile and sent me the recipe which is amazing! I plan to make it with my niece and hope it turns out half as good as Bains tablet. The kids love it, I love it and I will be stocking up on treats for xmas or buying gift vouchers for a later date. I highly recommend visiting and don't worry if you can't get to the shop you can always order online and buy some of those old favourites from your childhood as a gift for yourself or for someone else you know who has a sweet tooth. It advertises it's presence with one of those bright pink neon signs, shaped into a sweet. What can I say? It worked for me. Sweet Dreams is more of an alcove than a shop really, but is nevertheless stacked full with jars containing probably pretty much every type of sweet that you can think of. You'll also find such delights as gingerbread houses and candy canes. Yum. The lady that works there is friendly and helpful - without jumping down your throat too much. She gave us plenty of time to choose what we wanted (it's difficult when there is so much to choose from!) and when we'd finally made up our minds, we found that it was pretty well priced as well. We also picked up some chocolates my husband loves (I can't eat chocolate), and the marzipan is excellent. You'll want to go in both stores for sure.
