We are absolutely heartbroken by the experience we had at Devon Veterinary Hospital and feel it's important to share our story to other pet owners. After a routine visit where our dog had annual blood work and received multiple vaccines, we noticed a serious and fast decline in her health. A couple of days after our visit our dogs bloodwork came back showing she was slightly anemic and that she should have never received any of those vaccines at that time. What followed was an exhausting and emotionally draining ordeal of 30 emergency vet visits, blood transfusions, IVIG treatments, and a significant amount of prednisone and immunosuppressants. Despite all of this, her condition worsened. Ultimately, the damage from the vaccines and the oversight of her underlying disease led to us having to make the heart-wrenching decision to put our dog down. We are devastated by this loss, and the experience has left us questioning the competency and ethics of the staff at Devon Veterinary Hospital. All of this could have been avoided if the clinic had taken a more cautious, informed approach. We never expected to lose our pet in such a way -- and we truly hope that no other pet owner has to go through what we did. We cannot recommend Devon Veterinary Hospital to anyone, and we strongly urge all pet owners to seek a practice that takes a more responsible, compassionate, and patient-centered approach to animal care. Started taking my cat here when we moved to the area. I brought him in numerous times because he was sleeping a lot, and seemed to be urinating a larger amount and I sensed something was wrong. After 3 visits where I insisted on bloodwork, they brushed me off and gave me different food to give him. I took him to a nearby vet a month or so later for a second opinion, and as I suspected, he was very sick with a tumor and passed away only weeks after finding this out. I would NOT recommend taking your pet here for care. Stay far, far away. read more

I have a very ill bearded dragon who can only be seen by an exotic vet and I had an appointment for 3:30 and they called me 2:45 to tell me Dr. Kennedy couldn't see him because they didn't have the proper diagnostic equipment. Terrible incompassionate staff. We have tried to get them to see our one dog for a routine visit and tried this weekend for an emergency visit, they could not have been less helpful in either instance. I get the emergency was on a weekend however their response was "no, sorry" with a dismissive "good luck" Our neighbor has been using them for 14 years (clearly under the previous ownership too) who stated their attitude since the new ownership is very much about the bottom line, rather than helping your pet...also would not see her dog...this is a long standing client!!! 0 stars DO NOT RECOMEND Go to Hope/ Blue Pearl in Malvern. If I could give them a negative star I would. My chihuahua has been limping. Charged me $100 to give me some medicine for him licking his paw. So they treated the symptoms not the injury. If I could dispute the charge I would but I paid cash. Worst vet ever. Called them to complain and the lady didn't seem to care. Spoke to doctor and he said I can come and pay again. He said sometimes dogs must be seen more than once for the same problem. That sounds crazy to me. He should have been diagnosed properly and not just given medication to treat a rash caused by him chewing his hurt foot. He should have diagnosed and fixed why his foot is hurt--or at least attempted to. Buyer beware. read more

I had to bring my cat here on Saturday and I had a fantastic experience. They were reliable and gave good attention to detail, even in an emergency. We also had a very short wait time. The doctors and staff provided excellent care for my Australian Shepherd during the last 2.5 years of his life. We saw three different vets because of my schedule and each one was GREAT with my dog! They were knowledgeable and efficient with his routine well-care, and when it came time to deal with his failing health they were unbelievably supportive. "Putting a dog down" is never an easy decision, and they helped us by giving objective criteria for the decision, along with their observations. Because of them we were able to enjoy an additional three months with our 15.5 year old family pet. Dr. Kennedy, especially, gets a shout out for his compassionate care of our dog and of us. I really wanted to like Devon Vet. Hospital, but I just couldn't. Like another review suggested, it is a "money pit." Shortly after adopting one of my cats I took her here and discovered that she had a dermatological condition. After spending hundreds of dollars and many months going through trials, they came to the conclusion that it was a food allergy and no further research was required. Having my doubts, I tried putting her back on her old food and there was no reaction. When I brought this up with the vet they still insisted it was a food allergy. They gave me one option, and that was to stay on the prescription diet for the rest of her life - even though it was causing its own problems with her weight and digestion problems. Given that I had no other options before me, I went to seek a second opinion from another vet. The second opinion confirmed my suspicions, it was not a food allergy after all. They then suggested that I seek out a feline dermatologist (and they helped me locate one in the area) in the event another reaction occurs. About a month ago I ended up going to the dermatologist and we found a remedy among many other options. I feel that Devon Vet. Hospital may have been very stubborn to admit that we might have needed to seek out a specialist (perhaps because they were money hungry). Instead, they provided temporary fixes to mask the problem. In short, I switched vets and I'm very happy at my new one. read more

Devon veterinary hospital is a state of the art clean lovely place to take your pets. I bring my ragdoll cat and my Havanese cavalier here for check ups and any issues. This summer we had a tragic unexpected loss of our beautiful kitten. Devon helped us cope with this loss and were so kind to give us a certificate with her ashes along with the plaque and beautiful box. They even gave us a book for our children. Their care was over-the-top. The vets and nurses along with the other staff are all top-notch,friendly, sophisticated and very thorough. This Is a great place to bring your well animals but even better for excellent medical attention and loving care. read more

Unfortunately, it often takes a tragedy for people to realize who to trust and rely upon. I discovered Devon Veterinary Hospital by accident. I moved to Bryn Mawr in 2008 with 3 old cats, and I was very concerned about finding a vet I could trust. I found one place not too far that came highly recommended, but when that place told me they wouldn't supply prescription food for my cat without seeing her, I passed (of course I took all 3 cats to the vet immediately before I moved, so why would I pay for yet another visit when I knew they were fine?!). I was at a loss, so I searched, passed on a bunch of places with really negative online reviews and found Devon Veterinary Hospital. It didn't have many reviews to go on, but it was close to where I lived at the time. Fast forward to almost two years later, and I'm now just about the most loyal customer ever. I moved into the city, and I was uncertain about whether the trek out to Devon was worth it. Then, two cats were sick at once, and one cat's illness turned from bad to the worst. My little Joni had the best care possible to the very end. I especially appreciate Dr. Caracand's straightforward approach. She doesn't overmedicate or suggest unnecessary diagnostics/procedures and she advises very honestly and directly. Her professionalism and genuine care for the animals carries throughout the practice, and I think I've encountered every vet there now (I've had urgent medical days for every cat over the last two years). I've only had positive experiences there from the front desk to the vet techs to the vets themselves. The new hospital facilities are beautiful and well equipped which is wonderful for this client who plans on sticking with Devon Veterinary Hospital for as long as my old kitties will tough it out with me. read more

Our cat and dog (RIP) were patients of Devon Vet several years ago, and we found everyone very caring of our elderly pets & sensitive of our grief at losing our beloved pets. Our current pet, a dog, is a patient now. Not entirely the same staff, but an attentive and caring group just the same. As for pricing, they all are expensive as far as I am concerned, especially on the mainline. Just like our human family members, we have to be advocates for our pets and decide abt 2nd opinions & abt how useful throwing money after a condition is. read more

Brought our dog in for his annual visit. Sadly, our dog gets anxious when he nears the vet's office and his anxiety is no better inside. We've been going to Devon vet since we moved into the area in 2012. We loved our old vet and thought about using them even after moving. However Devon Vet really is great. We've worked mostly with Dr. Lohr and Dr. Kennedy. Both have been great. We feel very comfortable there. We recently had a cat with cancer and they worked seemlessly with Hope Emergency during his treatment which helped a lot. We wouldn't go any place else. read more

I took my 2 dogs and 3 cats here. Service was just ok. When my one dog got very sick they kept her overnight and released her(still sick) the next day. Took her to VRC in Malvern, where the Dr said we don't normally bad mouth other Vets, but your dog should never have been released. She is too dehydrated. She stayed there for 4 days until she was better. I think Devon Vet is an overpriced (way overpriced) money pit. I wouldn't refer people there read more

Dr. Kennedy, Angie and the rest of the gang(sorry those who work at the front desk are just as awesome but I don't know their names) are amazing. When you meet Dr Kennedy it is obvious within seconds that he loves what he does and is very knowledgeable. My guy Mookie was just neutered there and it went really well. My only complaint would be...ummm...hmmmm...oh..they have this awesome waterfall in their office which you are not supposed to touch. If you see it you'll know what I mean, it looks like something Mario would jump through and end up in a different warp zone. Yeah, that's really reaching and not an actual complaint. 10 out of 5. We could not have asked for a better experience when we sadly had to put our yorkie down. Devon Veterinary Hospital provided a private, quiet room, allowed us as much time as we needed to say good bye and allowed us to hold him during and after the procedure for as long as we needed. They arranged to create an impression of his paw and had a private exit so we didn't need to leave through a crowded waiting room. The staff was caring, gentle and so understanding and supportive. I have used the services of Devon Veterinary Hospital for all of my dogs since 1987. I have been with them through there tremendous growth. All of their staff is excellent and very friendly, accomodating and cordial. The Vet Techs are highly qualified and take thorough histories of your pet. The Veterinary staff is excellent, beginning with Dr. Caracand (founder). I have had experience with all the the doctors there and been quite satisfied with their cordiality and level of expertise. I particularly depend on Dr. Lohr, who has treated my 11 year old pom for everything from Cushing's disease to thyroid problems. I have raised 4 poms, and they have treated all of them. I have never had a bad experience there and feel as though they treat everyone and every pet as family! read more

We've been using Devon Vet for the care of our cats for 25 years, Throughout, the staffing has been knowledgeable, professional and caring. The current facilities are state of the art and a commitment from the practice when they completely gutted their old building. They've diagnosed both the common in our pets as well as a rare ailment, quickly. The kindness and professionalism when it became time to say goodbye I've not seen matched. They even sent me flowers one time when I was simply inconsolable on losing my baby. Yes, you can't ignore expense but there are no unnecessary tests and the few needed by them are usually to confirm and not make the diagnosis. Coupled with referring out at once what few things the facility isn't set up to handle makes your pets health care here quite reasonable. I just picked my dog up from here after boarding him for 5 days. I will NEVER go back again and my advice is for others to do the same. When I checked him in at the front desk, I gave the woman behind the desk a paper from my vet showing my dog had already received his bordetella vaccine. The woman said to me, "Can I keep this?". I answered yes that I had specifically bought it from my vet so they would have it for my dog's records. When I returned today to pick my dog up, they had charged me for a bordetella shot. I was furious as now my dog had a second one of these shots and had to be subjected to a vaccine he did not need. I asked to speak to a nurse as I was concerned from a medical standpoint about what having two of these shots meant. The nurse came out with major attitude like it was my fault they screwed up. She practically spit at me that she was told to give my dog the shot like she was blameless even though someone made a mistake. If their office is so disorganized and they have no communication between the front desk and the medical staff then I will not subject my dog again to their negligence. I can't even imagine what would have happened if there had been a serious issue with my dog and I had given them paperwork and they botched it like they did this bordetella shot. There are no checks and balances here and I will not put my dog's health and safety at risk with these people. They did not even have the decency to apologize. We are done with boarding our family's precious dog with these people. read more

This was a couple years ago..I brought my cat to the vet to get his claws taken out..I choosed the vet because it was close to my house. when I picked up my cat.. a staff person complained that my cat was causing problems etc..I know my cat..he was scared..but the problem was the staff person never said..dont worry we settled him down..made him feel comfortable...I was so mad at the staff person..mad at the hospital ,I never returned their again. Now, it might of changed now..I don't know but the whole experience sucked...How could I take my pets there if they are not caring, and loving. Our family has had two big dogs cared for by Devon Vet in a very caring manner. When our old dog came to the end of his life, they did everything possible to help him. We went through multiple treatments and even an operation. At each step the vets we worked with were informative and caring.
