Just bare feet. So clean your feet, hobbit people. Some Yelpers complain about parking, but hey lazy people, street parking is so easy if you just drive past the meters into the neighborhood. Duh. I really like this place because they really stretch you out. And people forget just how essential stretching is for maintaining good physical health. It's like yeah, I can go to a boot camp and beat the sh*t out of my body and feel sore the next day because of the intense lactic acid build up (which can be reduced with a good old-fashioned stretch session) and muscle fatigue OR I can find an alternative work out that isn't so hard on my joints. And this place definitely helped to lengthen because what lady wants to look bulky and man-ish? If you do, more power to you. That's just not what I want. Plus the stretch is nice especially in combination with other classes I take. Very full body. Stefanie was sweet and corrected form when needed. We were able to do a lot of choreography in the short amount of time. Did the GST Praxis. I have no idea what that means, but the class was comprised of body stretching, an arm work out, then an ab work out, and finished with more stretching. My back is crazy sore today!! Awesome. Very much appreciated this class and studio. There is a water cooler. They request you put a dollar in if you fill your water bottle FYI.

GST has helped me connect to my body in ways that (obsessive) yoga, weight training, and running never did. This work often involves digging into the parts of the body that store emotions and trauma, so it can be confronting at the same time as cathartic, but it's worth every minute, ounce of sweat, and emotional release. You'll notice shifts in your body structure, posture, strength, and muscle tone and, as long as you stick with it, relinquish some control, and commit to the challenge, this work will transform the way you think and feel about the human body.

Stephanie created a really special workout, and her beginner's option is tough! This is not to be…read moreconfused with the bar method or mat pilates. The beginner class is also difficult in a way that will signal to your body that it is capable of more. Her sense of humor and dramatic playlist make the hour-long class enjoyable. Every person in the room is usually grunting and oiy'ing with the slight adjustments that she makes to help maximize our workout. I have taken class the day after Thanksgiving and also on random weekends. The small class size makes each session feel like a personal training opportunity. The Barboza Method makes me re-think my posture and movements in everyday life, especially as I am mostly sitting at a desk during work hours. Oh, the violations to our bodies when we are constantly on devices and crouched forward! (Insert crying emoji here.) I am excited to re-train mine so that I can age better over time. Another observation is that the class is challenging even for the seasoned fitness fanatic so don't think you'll breeze on by, even if you do megaformer/solidcore or crossfit/F45 frequently. Some of the clients have legit hard bodies next to my softer and noodle-ly self, yet they're sweating in solidarity and you can tell it's not easy for anyone. The studio culture is non-judgemental so I feel like a rockstar afterwards (in a OMG-I-didn't-die way) even though I still look like a donut. Try it at least once so that you can open your eyes to a unique treatment for your muscles and alignment. It's both torturous and nourishing, and different from anything you can find at other studios or at standard gyms. You can find Stephanie on ClassPass or pay for individual classes or packs. The credits or $ are worth it. Some logistics: Parking is via meter or side-streets. Watch the signs. One of my classmates said there is also free valet during some evenings but I haven't tried this option. The studio has storage cubbies but they're not locked, so I recommend leaving your valuables in the car. Seriously, you won't need your phone anyway. Barboza Method is right next to the restaurant Horses, and you have to walk down a short alley into the adjacent backyard to access the door. It's not creepy. If you are early to class, take your time walking toward the studio. There is something about the discovery, a-la Great Expectations, and that soundtrack song by Mono rings in my head. This daydream is truly short-lived because you'll need all your concentration for class.

Her teaching style and positive energy are perfect for everyone whether you are a beginner or an advanced student. Tansy really loves and believes in what she does and it shows in every minute of her classes. She pays attention to the form, strength, and ability level of each and every student and offers encouragement and modifications as needed. She really cares for her students beyond what she is teaching them. I have never felt better about myself or my fitness level than I do now. I have been taking classes with Tansy for about 3 months now and I can honestly say I have never felt better. I am getting stronger with every class and I have more energy than I have ever had before. The name "Feeling Fit Fitness" truly embodies exactly what happens when you start taking Yoga and Pilates with Tansy.

These classes are the perfect supplement to my other workout routines (which includes Yoga, free-weight training and cardio) because they cover muscle groups that are only lightly touched on in my other routines. I was looking for a way to strengthen my core and tone my body in a more intense way than Yoga alone could provide and found it here. I had recently had some back strains and was told by my chiropractor that strengthening my core would be a way to prevent future strain and improve posture. In these two months I have seen my posture improve, my back pain is completely gone and I can see the difference her classes are making in my physique in the mirror. Besides my core strength, I'm seeing really encouraging improvements in my abs, shoulders, glutes, quads, chest & back. Encouragingly, I've seen the main challenge in my running move from my strength to my breathing. Being new at Mat Pilates, I am learning that making minor adjustments or corrections in position or orientation during an exercise can dramatically increase the difficulty of the exercise and therefore the level of benefit I get. I rely on the fact that Tansy pays attention to how her students are following her lead and gently provides real time suggestions, which for me, makes all the difference in my workouts. Thank you Tansy!! I can't say enough about her positive energy and the level of passion she brings to each class. This, coupled with her knowledge of the body & the variety of exercises she brings to class each day make her the perfect instructor in my opinion. If you are looking for a fun, flowing, energized class, an amazing workout to challenge just about anyone, regardless of your background, taught by someone who loves what she does and has years of experience, passion and drive, then Tansy's Mat Pilates class is what I'd recommend hands down.

I resisted, saying that I wouldn't be able to do any of the things that are necessary for yoga and core strength but went along with a friend anyway. Well long story short, within 3 months I ditched physical therapy and found real pain relief and increased mobility through the training and guidance and reassurance of Charleen. She is literally THE BEST. Not only is she trained in physical strengthening, yoga, meditation and relaxation techniques but also nutrition, herbal supplements and overall wellness. Charleen never once made me feel intimidated, underachieving or uncomfortable. I never ever thought I would look forward to exercise but with Charleen it feels like a treat rather than a chore.
