Now, before you blast me for even having an AM/FM radio from the mid-90s, you should know this radio has received "cult" status among DXers for its ability to pull in far-away AM stations from across the country. As a DXing hobbyist, in Houston I normally pull in AM stations from as far north as Chicago, west to Salt Lake City and Denver, all states across the Gulf Coast to Florida, up to Nashville (and everywhere in between). I have even pulled in two AM stations in Cuba. OK. Back to the broken analog tuning knob. I took the radio to Ron's because it was close and I was hoping it could be repaired. He told me it was probably the dial pulley on the inside of the radio, and said it would take a couple days. The next day he called and told me it was ready! Fast service, very reasonable cost, and the radio worked as good as new!

Can't say enough about this place ... genuine antique record players ("We don't sell knockoffs!")…read moredating back to the late 19th century, along with tube-type radios, bunches of old recorded cylinders and 78's, crank and rotary phones, and pretty much everything else related to the name of the establishment. It's run by a couple who's been in the business for well over 30 years. If they don't know something about this stuff, it's not worth knowing. They'll spend as much time with you as you like, describe every piece in detail, demonstrate their operation, and let you roam this little shop to your heart's content. Bob (retired chemist, PhD) and Kathy are wonderful people who genuinely love what they do, and are anxious to pass along the knowledge they've gathered over several decades. Prices are fair, considering that the pieces have been rebuilt to working order (an art in itself ... Bob's specialty) and restored aesthetically, without detracting from their original state. You can spend anywhere from a few dollars to several thousand, knowing that what you've got is the real thing. They might also throw in a couple of extras, depending on the piece. My new 100% wireless sound system now occupies a prominent place in my home, fiercely guarded by Nipper, the "His Master's Voice" dog. The shop is only open Friday through Sunday at the Market Place Antiques Mall on I-10 west between the Beltway and Wilcrest. You owe it to yourself to pay this place a visit.

Anyway, this is a lovely store. They have collectable antique phonographs, telephones, other vintage mechanical music stuff. I purchased a near mint 1927 I-90 Victor Victrola Phonograph. An amazing peace. They also have a huge selection of 78's. Among other things I have found some excellent rare Fat's Domino, Ella Fitzgerald, and Peggy Lea records. They also have collectable memorabilia from Victor specifically, and other telephone and radio companies as well. The couple that owns and runs the shop travel all over Texas and sometimes else where to find these antiques. Always near pristine condition on the phonographs. Of which they have a large selection from many makes and models. They are pricey, though they will help find something in your price range. On top of that you don't need to be afraid of fake phonographs (which there are a surprising amount out there). They do the research to make sure they are real, and if you don't believe them, just look at the decals and serial numbers to confirm. An excellent shop with a very unique selection of antiques.

Tried to get a liquid metal replacement and cleaning on a overheating PlayStation 5, employee said…read moreit would take 2-5 business days. After a week I called for an update and was told they were still waiting for the liquid metal shipment to arrive at the store. Another week and another call later they said the same thing with no hard date about when it would be there, saying it'd be another week or two. Possibly a month long wait for a repair when I was quoted 5 days, if the shipment truly takes that long I should be informed of this the day I came to drop it off, or it should've been reflected in the initial quote. I asked if the console had at least been cleaned and was told yes. I then decided to just pick the console up and get the liquid metal replacement done elsewhere. When I came to the store, it appeared as though the outside shell of the console had been wiped down with a rag or something, while the inside of the console was very clearly still dirty. The employee than graciously decided to not charge me for the "cleaning". 2 weeks later, and I was in the exact same spot as I was when I walked into the store for the first time and was told the wait was 2-5 days, rough. The other place I went to get it also charged less for both services and got both done the same day, if you're looking for console repair id look elsewhere than here.

When I finally called to check the status, I was told they "couldn't solder," meaning they were never capable of performing the repair in the first place. When I went to pick up my laptop, the employee actually asked if they had repaired it so he could charge me more -- even though they had already admitted they couldn't fix it. That tells you everything about the professionalism here. No transparency, no communication, and no value for the customer's time. I ended up with a wasted week, a wasted diagnostic fee, and the same broken laptop I started with. Save yourself the frustration -- go somewhere else.

They quickly diagnosed the issue, explained everything clearly without any confusing terminology, and provided a fair and transparent estimate before beginning the work. I would not hesitate to bring any other repairable equipment to this shop. If you have high-end audio equipment that needs attention, I will not trust anyone else. I Highly recommend this shop for professional, reliable service! I'm surprise of the negative reviews I've seen; my experience was great with these people and will use them again in the future if necessary. Luis C

I have a old Sony 300 CD Carousel that brought in for repair. I was reluctant to leave my unit,…read morebecause when you pull up to the location they will not allow you to go inside the building. In fact you have to call them at the gate that surrounds the building. They only do curbside drop off of your equipment which I thought was odd. I spoke to the guy and stated that it was an old unit and did he really think he could repair my unit. He stated that was "what they do" and only if the customer doesn't want to invest in the repair is generally when they don't repair the unit. I didn't want to pay the $125 charge up front and only $50 would be applied to the repair after the diagnostics. He emphasized that they had been in business for 30 years so I decided to leave my unit. About 3 WEEKS later he calls and says that the parts aren't available and if he got a used unit with parts that it probably would not be worth it. I was willing to pay what was needed to get it repaired. I would NEVER recommend this company, I wish I had followed my first thoughts and declined his services. I just feel that I was ripped off. These NEGATIVE reviews are real. They probably can do some repairs on various units, but I wouldn't trust them as a best practice.
