Fell in love with this gym after trying several on the West Side. It is so much better for my needs than everything I have tried. What is funny is that I live nearby and I have passed DEUCE so many times without considering giving it a try because I found it intimidating from the outside. I am in my 40s and an avid tennis player but strength training has never been my jam. I have decided recently that it was time for me to get serious about strength training, else I would continue to lose muscles, a recent trend since turning 45. Meredith is by far on of the best coaches I've ever met. I've been doing CrossFit since 2015. Over the years I dropped in many different boxes, outside of the state as well. I can honestly tell you that a coach like Meredith is hard to find. She demonstrated the correct form for each one of the movements, and made sure I perform them correctly. I told her I recently had a baby and trying to get back in shape. Even thought I'm not new to CrossFit and I'm familiar with most of the movements, she made sure to break down each movement, kept a close eye on me, suggested scaling versions when needed and kept me motivated during the entire session. The workout itself was challenging but doable. Super fun and motivating environment. COVID-19 precautions: Dropped in on 07/08/2020 at 12pm. I wore a face mask upon entering the gym and was allowed to take it off during the workout. They took my temperature and gave me hand sanitizer. Very friendly staff, convenient location, well equipped gym with indoor and outdoor workout area. If you're a drop-in, you can either pay the 25$ drop in fee or pay $25 and get a t shirt. Their classes weren't exactly what I was used to. My box usually has gymnastics, Olympic lifting and WOD in every class. The class I went to at noon here only had stretching and 16mins of WOD. I didn't feel the pain the next day like I usually do. So I wouldn't have minded if the class was a little more challenging. Also tried Paradiso in Venice. I preferred Paradiso (sorry)! read more

Hands down one of the best Crossfit gyms I've been to. What makes you feel the most welcomed? The staff greeted me and made sure I knew where to check in and that we'd be starting shortly. The members talked with me and asked about my visit and reason for being in Venice. From a professional standpoint, the coaching (Emily) was phenomenal. Her management of athletes, equipment, warm-ups and time was nothing short of impressive. The location is super convenient and the weather was gorgeous, thanks LA lol. I was there a few minutes early for the 0900 Saturday class. I've been to a dozen Crossfit box gyms in California and other cities. Initially I was a little put off by Deuce 2's location right on Lincoln Blvd. It felt kind of like it was right out on a busy street. But I've run in Central Park and London and San Francisco -- so what was I worrying about? Maybe it just felt different... But kinda GOOD. Most box gyms are pretty much the same with familiar weights, ropes, bars etc. You can't get any extra credit in this area. Crossfit is not about having exotic equipment, it's about basic fitness. Core stuff. Deuce 2 gets it's 5-Star rating because of a friendly, knowledgeable, committed staff of coaches that really raise the bar. I've seen plenty of trainers since the first time I walked into a gym (1978) and I've been an Arthur Jones-certified Nautilus trainer myself (1984). I've seen fads come and go. And I've seen the prima donna trainers operating at the fanciest most expensive gyms in New York and LA. The Deuce 2 crew is great. I don't know how these coaches found each other and decided to create Deuce 2, but the attitude, ethos, and authenticity is spot on. I've seen Danny, Logan, and Lindsey coach classes and they are all good. I am not surprised they are getting great results with the people training there. I am a lifelong gym goer and focused mainly on the basic weight training movements, so I was looking for something similar to high intensity training in the crossfit realm. Needless to say you find that and more at this facility. The Deuce is so much more than any one definition can provide: it has a brilliant sense of community, dare I say family vibe, with no pretension and simply fun people that want more from a workout. The true value of this place are the trainers from Logan on down. Each one offers an amazing level of lesson plans and workouts to test yourself physically and mentally. Logan is as knowledgeable about fitness as you can find in LA and will take the time to cater the workouts to you and your limits. He understands the value of coaching to inspire, not for the paycheck. I personally also recommend Chris, Emily and Lindsey as well as they've all went out of their way to teach and inspire us in great ways. I know being "in shape" isn't an all-or-none thing, but for simplicity: If you're already in shape: If you're healthy and strong but bored with what you're doing or have bigger goals than your current regimen allows, general physical preparedness (GPP) at Deuce is probably a great fit. There's variety in the workouts, and the people there--coaches and other members--will help you improve and stay motivated. There are specialized courses too, but I've only done GPP. If you're out of shape: I was in the worst shape of my life when I started at Deuce. If you've also unwittingly become a schlub but don't want to be, there's structure in the workouts to give you direction, and there's a really positive community of people who are encouraging and foster accountability. You should also know that the workouts are hard. They "scale" so you'll be able to do them, but there's no denying they're going to be challenging. The things I think I appreciate the most are that the coaches know their stuff cold, they help you understand why you're doing the exercises you're doing, and they make sure you're doing them right. I think it's completely possible to just show up, listen to directions, bury yourself doing the exercises listed on the board, and become incredibly fit. But, personally, understanding what I'm working toward in a technical way has helped me a lot. That's the first thing you go through when you show up for the assessment/intro session, and it keeps building. You can choose not to worry about most of the technical kinesiology stuff or geek out on it. The coaches can accommodate you either way, and everybody else there will still be super cool. read more

I live near Deuce and joining was one of my best decisions of the year so far. I've worked out in gyms for nearly 20 years, and what I love about Deuce is working out in community, under the tutelage and supervision of their amazing trainers. The workouts are definitely intense, but in a healthy way, and not impossible. You're encouraged to go at your own pace and be safe. I just love these guys! I've been training with them for more than a year now and they are by far my favorite exercise gym. All of the coaches are highly qualified and personable and I particularly enjoy the specialty courses. I've taken their Strongman Course with Logan which was THE BEST, a must for really anyone who is interested in becoming stronger and more efficient in their way of training and moving in general. I'm now 33 weeks pregnant and I am currently taking a pre-natal course with Dr. Lindsey Mathews there as a part of her BIRTHFIT program. To put it straight, I have not had as much faith in a gym and its coaches as I do now for Deuce. These people literally eat, sleep and breathe their values, training techniques and integrity. I have been training with deuce as a part of their specialty class, strongman 101, which relies on functional human movements utilizing odd tools such as tires, cement atlas stones and kegs. It is the most weird, challenging fun workout I've ever endured, and I'm already feeling stronger, leaner and more energized because of it. An important thing the coaches do exceptionally well at is teaching; teaching by example. They take the time to explain and show you correct, safe form of a movement and then watch you try, always critiquing and/or correcting. Though offering a solid amount of reinforcement and motivation, the coaches provide you with the opportunity to dig deep within yourself, break barriers and reach new heights. It's an empowering feeling, and along with great community support, you never feel alone.
