I have been using destinations unlimited for well over 20 years! With every trip or vacation planned through them were absolutely amazing and were always smooth sailing! I can honestly say these agents go beyond for their clients! Twice we have had emergencies while traveling and my agents were life savers! They were able to reschedule our flight home and all travel arrangements at the last minute due to a hurricane. I really wish I could of given a five star. They are local and I really wanted to keep the business in Pleasanton. I wanted to use them on all my future travel. I'm still not clear of my charges from our December trip in 2018. Everything took forever. We couldn't get excited because we had no information until the very last second (the night before at 9pm). We made some changes, but in a digital world it was minor. We had Chunnel Railroad tickets purchased that could not be changed , costing us over $900 Seriously. I called, emailed and showed up at the office. I stayed calm and kept thinking things would get better, but no luck. I'll I can say is avoid this place! or it will be a complete nightmare. I did work with one agent, and my experience is with that one only. I cannot speak as the other agents in that office. read more

Penny at Destinations Unlimited was referred to us by friends for our Hawaii honeymoon travel planning, and she did a great job! She took the time to understand us and our travel style and was very accommodating in terms of our budget, our likes/dislikes (unlike another travel agent we tried who shall remain un-named), and gave us helpful tips and suggestions about attractions (both well known and little known). She even worked with us to plan around the time share property we were gifted by my uncle. Since neither my husband nor I had ever been to Hawaii, we really appreciated having someone plan this all-important trip for us. And she hooked us up with a beautiful 4-star hotel room right across the street from Waikiki Beach that provided free breakfast, mid-day snacks, and evening cocktails every day. The total price for: 2 tickets to Oahu from SFO, 2 flights to Maui, 2 return tickets from Maui, 1 rental Jeep or convertible Sebring for 6 days, 4 nights in Oahu with deluxe accomodations and above-mentioned daily goodies, came out to a little over $5,000. This was in December, at the height of Hawaii's tourist season. We felt really well taken care of the entire trip. All our plane tickets, transfers, and car rentals were done for us in advance so we didn't have to worry about any of that. Penny also provided maps and a list of places of interest as well as a list of her favorite restaurants and various activities coupons. I have worked with melody on a few trips including Peru, Costa Rica, and Hawaii. The trip to Peru was truly incredible mostly due to the plan that she made for me. The lodging was incredible, tours perfect, and locations chosen incredible. For several years now my husband and I have used Destinations Unlimited for our vacation planning. Sometimes we have no idea where we want to go, or actually too many places we want to go. During our conversations, they help us pinpoint what would suit our vacation needs. Most of the time they have been to the places they are suggestioning. It is NOT just a sell, it is sharing their experiences. Using Destinations Unlimited has been at best time consuming and at worse a terribly stressful experience. My fiance and I were traveling to Australia for our honeymoon and so we we wanted some help in planning out trip as we had plenty of other things on our plate. Trying to plan ahead we started the process 10 months before the our wedding was planned. At first we were trying to figure out exactly where we wanted to go and gave them 2 locations and wanted a couple of options within those two locations to help us decide. From the beginning I should have known not to continue using them as the lack of communication was bad enough that my fiance refused to talk to them anymore as it was so frustrating. Eventually we decided that we would go to Australia and gave the dates that we wanted to go. The person helping us finally gave us some information on different things we could do while there and said that we should wait on flights for a bit as they should get a bit cheaper. What ended up happening over the next 5 months is that I would send a couple e-mails and get a few responses then all of a sudden nothing. I would get no responses to my e-mails for 2-3 weeks until I finally called multiple times then the cycle would start all over again. What final straw was I had been trying to get some confirmation numbers and some more information about an activity when I got no e-mail response for 10 days. I called and was told that our agent was "very busy" and sometimes had "give other clients priority". I completely understand being busy but in my opinion there is absolutely 0 excuse to not return an e-mail for 10 days or even shoot me a quick call saying "they are sorry they have had a hectic week I, will you be available for a call at XX time." After not receiving an e-mail or call for over 10 days i finally received an e-mail over the weekend again saying how busy they were and asking if they could call me the next morning. I replied within 5 minutes saying that I would be available from 8:30 - 9:30 the next morning. Not only did I not receive a call, I did not receive an e-mail and instead was told that they had not gotten into the office until 10 and was busy answering e-mails. To wrap up, I thought the whole point of using a travel agent was to help you make informed decisions about traveling along with making it easier and as a side benefit maybe getting some better deals. In the end it was extremely frustrating and stressful process that was provided by not 1 but 2 different travel agents with the company. While I have not used a travel agency before this, chances are I never will again. All we wanted was someone to help make planning our honeymoon easier so we could have time to concentrate on other matters but instead they just made the entire process worse. read more

It is extremely disappointing to even be writing this review! We began planning our trip and trying to purchase tickets and secure accomodations in October/November 2017 for travel in June 2018 to Portugal. NOTHING got booked until we went in and sat at the desk to ensure our airfare was being booked. Everyone in the office was apologetic, etc. however numerous phone calls, emails, trips into the office we still had not completed our plans prior to May 2018. It was months of micromanaging the process. (We specifically said we needed to have things completed prior to our trip out of state for our sons college graduation). After many unanswered phone calls, emails, etc. I began booking our hotels. Out of 5 hotels I believe we booked 3 possibly 4 of them ourselves because we were noticing the availability was diminishing or not available. All our frustrations, concerns, faith in Destinations Unlimited, Patricia and even Carol were less than acceptable. How unfortunate that we had to go into the office and request to use someone other than Patricia. Carol offered to buy us lunch, while she tried to sort things out (we didn't accept that, wasn't why we were sitting at her desk. Nice gesture but Carol missed the mark on this). Carol said she would be working on our trip personally and get things taken of prior to her leaving on her trip (She had 10 days to figure things out). AGAIN DISAPPOINTMENT! Carol handed our travel arrangements off to a third person she was out of the country...Melody Kelly. Melody was probably the only saving grace throughout our process . (She accomplished more over several days than Patricia or Carol did with weeks and months). Unfortunately at this point the stress and disappointment was looming and the fun of planning wasn't fun anymore. We booked other excursions ourselves, we did not want to miss out leaving all the loose ends up to them! Let me also mention our airfare disaster! Patricia booked us on Norwegian because of the dreamliners and the extra room. We didn't fly Norwegian, all their dreamliners were pulled. We flew HI-Fly (we named it Why-Fly) and after this experience realized that a poor review may save some other poor unsuspecting person needing travel planning. We had missed flights because of Norwegian's mess, had to rebook our airfare at our cost, lose a day of travel because of missing connecting flights. Our entire trip was insured and Carol had said she would take care of everything when we returned just save the receipts. Again, we went in with the receipts sat at her desk and she handed me a form she printed from the insurance company and said we could contact the insurance company if we needed help processing our claim. We are leaving out so much but hope that our transparent review will potentially spare others from an experience like this! read more

I was bouncing between 2 and 3 stars, but since I am so completely frustrated with this agency right now, I'm giving them a 2. I don't understand how a service business like this can continue to operate with their lack of response. The one positive, is that all the hotels and advice for Spain from Patricia were great. But, man, was it ever a painful process to get to that point! Many phone calls and emails with no response. And then when we were left stranded in Bilbao airport after an error in ticketing, we had to rent a car to drive to Barcelona. Patricia was very sympathetic and I thought she and Carol were working diligently to recover the money we paid for this flight. This was in September. It is now December and I have inquired numerous times for status via email to both Carol and Patricia. Absolutely NO RESPONSE whatsoever! I find this utterly unacceptable. I will never use this agency again and will advise others to do the same. read more

Back in the winter of 2014, we were given a recommendation to Destinations Unlimited by a neighbor who said she had had good luck with this company and one of its agents, Gina. When we called to make an appointment, Gina was out on medical leave so Patricia Snyder offered to help us. We met with her and liked her very much, giving her the basic parameters of our trip and how we thought she could help. She told us we would hear from her in late January (after we returned from a trip to Cuba) with some recommendations. January goes by, no word. Finally in February I call her and she says she's been very busy. We exchange email information and she says I should hear from her again in a few weeks. A few weeks go by and again, finally, I call and ask why we don't have the information. Oh, she's been so busy she hasn't had time. In desperation, I email her asking for the hotel and travel information we'd been seeking. About a week later we get an email with three hotels in each of the cities (high, medium and low price). She suggested we get on the internet and investigate to see which appeal to us. As soon as we started looking on the hotel websites and on Trip Advisor, it turns out the prices she's quoting us are way higher - not $10, not $20 or $50 higher, but hundreds more. Hmmmm! When I call to ask what is happening, she says "oh, we get different pricing". I'm sorry, why would I book with you when I can save lots by booking myself???!!! Not only that, but I had made clear we needed air conditioning as it would be high summer for the trip. Three of the hotels did not HAVE air conditioning which I found out simply by going to the hotel websites. Did she not listen to us at all? Again, we call to ask some questions and we email, but this time do not get a response. Even if we didn't need help with the hotel, we still needed help with scheduling of tours and activities - nothing from her in that regard, either. Weeks pass and still no word. We decided it would be prudent at this point since it's springtime, to book the hotels ourselves, which we did. We NEVER got a call or email from her or an email. Turns out, the neighbor who had given us the initial contact had also recommended them to her nephew. HIs experience with Patricia was identical to ours - no help, no contact, no nothing after the initial rush of offers of assistance. How they stay in business is a mystery to me!! read more

My wife and I just came back from six weeks in Italy. I arranged for the first three, as we went to a wedding and then visited her relatives in Lucca. The remaining three weeks were arranged for by Patricia Snyder and she couldn't have done a more through job in setting up our itinerary including rail passes, hotel reservations, and towns to stay in to be able to visit adjoining small towns. She completely understood our desire to visit the small towns and with her knowledge of Italy she was able to direct us in that direction. She is completely professional, and followed thru on every detail of our trip. We highly recommend her. read more

The agency and agent we met with were referred to us by a friend. Unfortunately our experience was less than satisfactory. Our itinerary had the incorrect address for the destination hotel, no research was done to determine what type of packages the hotel offered (breakfast, internet, etc), and incorrect information was received regarding the tour bus accomodations. We are not "world travelers", so we did not know what questions to ask. This is the reason we sought the advice and counsel of a travel agent. Clearly all travel agents are not created equal. My advice? Do your homework and book your travel yourself. At the very least avoid this agency if you do not have a lot of experience with traveling. read more

My mom has used Destinations Unlimited for years. Penny always did a great job. Unfortunately Penny was not available for our last trip so we had to work with Patricia. We made reservations for a wonderful cruise to Bermuda, upgraded to the Owners Suite on the ship and were ready to have to trip of a lifetime. When my mom and sister went in the pre-arrange the shore excursions they were told that the reservations had been lost. They were lost due to Patricia not making the payment when the reservations were made!! Alternative travel arrangements were made; we were to fly to Bermuda instead. Not on Virgin Air as previously arranged but on United in Economy seats. Patricia was going to assist us by looking up shows to see while in NYC; a week later my sister finally got the information herself. We were told that our room in Bermuda was to look over a stream...NOT. It looked over a rooftop. The hotel, albeit very nice, was in a horrible location as we had to take the ferry, bus or taxi everywhere. Do not use Patricia! She ruined the cruise for us and the only restitution she made was paying HALFof the cost of the shuttle service from the airport and hotel. I will never use Patricia ever again if I ever go back to Destinations Unlimited. read more
