My original hair color was very a very light brown, almost dirty blonde. I bought this voucher because I wanted to color my roots (1 to 2 inches) and make my hair even. I also wanted to tone down the color for my graduation pictorial this Saturday.
I specifically told the guy (Marvin, I think) that I "just want to tone it down" to a "darker richer brown." So he talked about colors and we picked an initial color. When I told him why it was so dark, he said it was what I needed to tone down my color. So I just said, "Okay, I'll just trust you."
It looks like that trust was misplaced. My hair ended up black, and when I confronted him about it he said it was just a really dark brown. Uh, no. It's black. You'd have to look really hard under sunlight to see any hint of brown. Whatever they used, it's so black that it left a black stain on my hand when I accidentally scratched my ear. In other words, it is virtually black as far as the rest of the world is concerned.
I felt so upset I just wanted to cry right then and there, but I tried really hard to keep it together because it was just so embarrassing. To be fair, he offered to "lighten" it. I refused because (1) I didn't have the time because I had class after, (2) it might just damage my hair, and (3) it would render useless the additional P450 I paid for an additional conditioner-treatment (dunno what it was).
Now, I'm dreading my photoshoot because I look really pasty with black hair (which is why it's been more than four years since I've had black hair). In fact, he could have colored my hair a crazy light shade of brown... or red, and it would still be better. When I got to school, everyone asked me why I dyed my hair black and that it doesn't suit me. Why Marvin thought this would ever pass off as brown is beyond me.
I really truly regret this salon visit. I wasted money for black hair I could've gotten from a boxed color dye. Worst part is, this was my only free time before my graduation pictorial (in 2 days), so even if I wanted to I don't have the time to recolor my hair; and this mistake will be immortalised in my law school graduation photoshoot. P.S. The cut was actually really nice. I'm not sure if it's the keratin masque or the P450 additional treatment that was good, but the treatment/masque after the color did really make my hair silky-smooth and healthier. Not sure if it lasts though, haven't washed my hair. read more
