After the sudden retirement of my barber, my quest has been to find a traditional barber. Additional bonus points for working in a shop with a TV in the corner and lots of well read magazines next to the chairs in the waiting area. (yes, I'm nostalgic for shops like "Floyds Barber Shop" in Mayberry, although with a modern update) This place comes close. I stopped here yesterday with no appointment. Just walked in. I was very happy to get seated right away. Scott (I think that's his name) got started on my hair and in a very short time had succeeded in reducing my overgrown mop to a short tight well groomed head of hair. So far so good. In fact after I was pleasantly surprised this morning that while I was getting ready for work today I noticed that I didnt even have to comb my hair. It fell into place. No comb needed. Based on that alone I will most likely go back. Did it feel like a traditional barber shop? For the most part yes. Scott felt a little new, but everyone's gotta start sometime, and with Mikael right next to him the traditional ways are passed on. I did miss the constant sound and feel of scissors as most of the cut was done with clippers. That's just picky, I know, but the results were unmistakably great. The one thing I did miss though was smelling like witch-hazel when I left. but then again, I'm old and that's not something most customers would miss. final judgement: Great cut, 2 thumbs way up!

I don't recommend this place. I went in to fix my hard part fade I got from another barbershop. I…read moreended up losing part of my hairline as the barber decided to take that all the way up to the hard part. So she basically pushed my hairline back at an angle, not what I had at all when I walked in. I wasn't able to go to work for 2 weeks due to this haircut she gave me. It's not like I could've just taken my hair down and got a different haircut, my hairline was actually pushed back. The picture I have attached is a little over a week after my haircut and it started growing back. This person should NEVER cut hair again, and I highly recommend they lose her as a barber. The last photo is what it looked like when I originally got it cut by a different barber shop. To compare the difference and you can see the hair she took away.

I don't know if it is the light placement or the tone of the light, but I looked pretty ragged in the mirror. My hair looked frizzy and gross and not at all like me. I commented to the stylist about it and she agreed that many clients have similar comments. So - as long as you understand that what the mirror shows isn't really what you look like, then your expectations will be met. The staff was very friendly. I chose Salon 124 because some online reviews of other local salon staff sort of scared me away from the other salons. I don't want a "snobby" salon. I want a salon that will be happy to see me, whether I am a mom who just needs an afternoon away from home or whether I am a fashionista who cares about the latest hair trends.
