The restaurant itself does little to dispel that image. It is pretty much a warehouse decked out in Indian decorator stylings. That being said it would be a fantastic location for parties, wedding or any celebration and i suspect functions are their specialty. As a lunch venue it didn't quite work. We were the only group in the large hall and when the number of staff outnumber the customers it is a little worrying. That said we spent the afternoon sampling the banquet which was as tasty and high quality as their sister restaurant in Ivanhoe. Fresh Indian poppadom's soaked up spicy curries and korma. The dishes were all well made and authentically presented. The service was attentive (as you would expect in a deserted restaurant) and friendly. I would definitely head to the Ivanhoe restaurant rather then this location due to the ambiance. Although I hope to get an invitation to a function at the South Morang location soon!

The cafe used to be an old nut shop and alongside tagines there are spices and raw ingredients for sale. There is a spoken menu and dishes are constantly changing. I ordered the second of the two options offered (the other was a tagine with cous cous), going with the mixed plate. My coffee was short, black and delicious, it even arrived with a sweet on the side. The food was amazing! Bread with zaatar, hummus, garden salad, pickled vegetables, fried haloumi, falafel. It tasted home made with love .. like you'd been lucky enough to be invited into someone's home and their Aunt and Grandma were cooking. Exotic, colourful, fresh, vibrant .. I used the chips to scoop up the cous cous. Just like a visit to Marrakech this cafe is unexpected and wonderful, it will leave you wanting to return .. a real neighbourhood gem. Newspapers - no Music - low and trance like. Space is not quiet given there's plenty of people plus lots of hard surfaces but you can still chat easily.

One thing I love about a place is big portions, it's great to order different dishes and share, it lets you try more. The entrees here are big enough to share, and to help yourself to seconds. On that note, the lamb shawarma. Ermagosh. There is flavor in every single bite, the lamb was the tastiest. It was evenly distributed with seasoned rice, salad with a lovely dressing, and lamb. I hate those places that skim you on meat, but here, they were so generous! And it was flame grilled, only adding to the taste. I am looking forward to my next trip already. Our appetizer was the haloumi, and wow! It's salty and crunchy and perfectly balanced with the salad and Lebanese bread. And yes, we had room for dessert! Turkish delight and baklava. I don't even need to describe how lovely and perfect this was to end our meal. They have a wine list, with lots of options, and even have banquet style set courses. It's like you came to a Lebonese house, large with pretty drapes, and a nice photo opt in the courtyard. They have large glass walls; so when you aren't taking in their theming, you can look out at the ongoing traffic. And it's totally authentic (you're in Campbellfield, after all.) We've been here a few times and have gotten a variety of dishes. Staff knows what "vegan" means and will be sure to make your food without dairy or egg as long as you specify it when ordering. We've tried a few things on the menu, but I like the vegetarian plate, which comes with 7 falafel balls, hummus, and foul, as well as some pickled turnips. (Foul is a dish made from fava beans, chickpeas, and lemon oil -- an interesting flavour that I wasn't used to before I started eating foul. I like it, but maybe it's a bit of an acquired taste.) Their falafels are made using "grandma's recipe" and are light, fluffy, and fresh-tasting -- not heavy or greasy like from a kebab shop. Very nice falafels. The vegetarian plate will set you back $12 and is heaps of food. Cheeeeeeap. You can also get a falafel wrap for a mere $5, or a more exotic Iraqi falafel wrap that comes with Iraqi bread and pickled-mango "ambah" sauce. (I haven't tried this yet.) My boyfriend always gets the hummus fatteh (called "tesiyeh" in some countries, like Syria) -- which is a hummus-yogurt type of dish. Unfortunately, they don't have a dairy-free version of this, so it's not vegan.
