Quality takeaway lunch pack for $10. I work nearby, so it's perfect for a quick, fresh, healthy fix. Beautiful atmosphere.

We are seated outside on little stools. It's a hit day. We feel like salads. Their counter salads look great but come with a catch. You can't order a salad as a main only as a side and you can't mix two. And it's a small side place of 13.50. Or you can get takeaway for two salads for 13.50 is a small sumo sized salad cup. Why because they're promoting something called responsible cafes so apparently cardboard takeaway containers and plastic spoons are responsible. Yes the waiter thought it was a bit much too but what can he do. 13.50 for a small salad takeaway is already overpriced. Yes I had the fish bulgur salad which was sensational and their eggplant tahini salad was to die for but I had takeaway walked 10 minutes to Edinburgh gardens with better seating less noisy and a nice atmosphere. Also their small sized coffee is 4 dollars and weak. Recommend getting takeaway only. You won't be saving the environment but you will definitely make less of a hole in your pocket. Menu is definitely to die for and staff are lovely despite the insanity that prevails.

We got greeted with smiley and friendly staff - always a good start to the day. Place is small but the turnaround was pretty fast! We got a table straight away. The cuisine is turkish-greek and the dishes are absolutely delicious and full of flavour. We tried a bit of the spanakopita to start, which was no less than my greek grandmother's homemade pita! We had the baked eggs and avocado ezme with a side of sesame koulouri and no joke we licked the plates clean! So much flavour and very generous portions. There are so many options for those who want a takeaway - a cabinet full of delicious pitas, salads, boreks and little bites! Oh coffee is from code black and perfect! Can't wait to try some more dishes!

Had very high expectations for this place based on all the reviews, but ended up pretty…read moredisappointed. The food was OK, but not nearly amazing as we'd expected. Possibly that's because we ordered their vegetarian options, which were all side dishes -- maybe they're more known for their meat options? Either way, they should really up their vegan and vegetarian game! We went for my boyfriend's birthday -- so, yeah, it was a special occasion, which made our experience even more disappointing because our expectations were set so high. For starters, even though we'd made reservations two weeks ago, we were squeezed into a tiny little table with four patrons on either side and very little elbow room. We could hear all of the conversations of the two tables next to us and they could hear our conversation. Didn't make for a romantic birthday dining experience, that's for sure. On the plus side, the service was very attentive -- a French girl who knew exactly what was and wasn't vegan. She pointed out the various sections of the menu and our various options. My boyfriend started with a drink (arak gantous/abou raad), a strong aniseed-flavored liquor. He enjoyed it but I stayed far away based on the smell alone, haha. Then for our entree we ordered: - taratoor (almond and tahini dip) - hummus dip - crudites (fresh veggies to dip in the tahini and hummus) - pickled veggies to dip in the tahini and hummus This was probably the highlight of the meal -- I really loved the taratoor and the hummus was good too, although the flavour got a little repetitive compared to some hummuses (hummi? lol). The portion sizes of the entrees were good so we were actually starting to fill up. So next we ordered: - 1 serving of crunchy potatoes seasoned with garlic and coriander - 1 serving of rice pilaf - 1 serving of freekeh None of these wowed us. The crunchy potatoes were very very dry and honestly needed a sauce of some kind. My boyfriend ate three potato cubes and flat-out refused to eat the rest, leaving me with a very bloated potato-belly at the end of the evening because I hate wasting food so I had to eat the rest of them :/ The rice pilaf was nice enough with barberries and pistachio, a traditional Persian sort of dish, but like the potatoes, it was very dry. The freekeh with pomegranate dressing and almonds was just not very nice. My boyfriend ate most of it and I avoided it. Ultimately I think the problem is this is the type of restaurant designed for share plates, and the vegan options were all side plates to share, not mains. And as side plates they didn't go together well as a cohesive whole. There were literally no vegetarian mains available (much less vegan mains) and I think this is a real shame. It forces veggos to select these side dishes that don't really form a complete meal, and everything ends up tasting very dry and odd together. Rumi should definitely make more of an effort to come up with a vegetarian (preferably vegan) main so that nobody misses out. So. Yeah. Probably avoid this place if you're vegan or vegetarian. We spent $86 altogether and for that amount of money (and a birthday celebration dinner!) we expected to be much happier with our food and experience.

Like we ordered the lamb and got a delicious lamb shoulder, completely on its own. Who just wants to munch on red meat? As a Middle Eastern, may I make a quick suggestion? Please add back in the flat breads, the rice, the potatoes. They are needed. We ordered the: Crispy fried school prawns - Delicious, needed more sauce 'Batata Harra' - Really good, needed a (any!) sauce. Advieh marinated lamb shoulder - Needed something to accompany it. Shaved Cabbage Salad - Really underwhelming. Don't recommend. I can't remember the rest. It's a shame because the potential is definitely there, but it definitely misses the mark. Ambiance and service could improve too.

I'm not sure where this crew have evolved from, as I haven't snooped that much yet!! Extremely nice service, cool grooves, and very yummy, interesting food. I had the tea smoked salmon with devilled Avo and fennel salad (see photo). If you love smoked foods then this salmon is for you, it has quite an intensity about it, they gave me two generous pieces but I could only eat 3/4, not that it wasn't good, it's great, just got a bit too strong for me after awhile, if you're a 'smoked' connoisseur you'll love it. The avocado had just enough chilly and the fennel salad was delicious with pomegranate and capers. They have a large selection of teas, yes they do coffee, and fresh juice, OJ, or an amazing green juice with ginger. There's a lot of white wall space suitable for a great mural or large artwork, this would make the place look and feel more relaxed and not so stark. - just had a chat; the two chefs were previously head chefs at two different restaurants in Melbourne. This place is worth a try, twice.

A regular latte is $3.80. I've been 4 times in the last fortnight just for a takeaway coffee so I think it may be turning into my regular 'place'.

I love the sense of space from the wonderfully high ceilings. The front area under the umbrellas looks appealing too mixed in amongst the greenery. Unfortunately my visit went down hill from there .. I got quickly given a bottle of water .. but no cup to drink it in. Is drinking out of the bottle a thing now? Well this is Brunswick .. I got up and grabbed myself a glass. Coffee was a good temperature .. nice and hot! Though I felt a touch bitter. The menu had some interesting options on it. I decided to go with the Middle Eastern Breakfast (Poached eggs, grilled zaatar flat bread, beetroot relish, felafel, baba ganoush). It arrived in good time. Yet the poached eggs were undercooked, I pierced the egg and the yolks ran all over the plate like a burst dam. The beetroot didn't seem to belong .. it's flavour stuck out and overpowered. Zaatar spices were tasty but would've liked a crispier texture. An unpleasant aftertaste permeated too .. all in all disappointing. Service a bit mixed, some staff were friendly, others a bit cold. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing.. or perhaps my expectations sky rocketed when I saw the amazing premises. Regardless I doubt I will be back. Papers - yes Music - bouncing away in the background, easy to chat.

I got the arancini balls. It came with 4 balls on top of dry mixed salad leaves and pesto on the side. The pesto and rice balls were amazing. The salad was sad and dry. A little dressing and this dish would of been a star! My partner on the other hand had the lamb cous cous salad. Perfectly cooked and fantastic flavours! Not a complaint. Our juices were fresh and large which was a nice change. The service was 5 star! We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. Unfortunately after we ordered a rather rude and loud couple sat next to us and started smoking. We asked to move inside and without question everything was picked up and moved with a smile! Outside is fantastic and great for groups. If you want a quieter meal just find a 2 seater off to the side. Mixed review but I think it depends on your choice of meal.

The good news is that during this period of closure, the owners go to Sicily to visit family and come back to Bar Idda with new, delicious recipes. Hooray! Not that Bar Idda's home-style Sicilian fare isn't delicious enough as it is. I would recommend every single dish on the menu but that's not terribly helpful. Instead, I'll pick one dish from each course - primi, secondi, contorni and dolce - that I simply cannot not order when I eat here. First things first, pan-fried ricotta gnocchi with mushrooms and greens...I'm starting to salivate. Then, the mulinciani - layered eggplant with tomato, basil and pecorino. Drool-worthy indeed. On the side, so simple yet so refined, the house salad of chicory, celery and sultanas. And the sweet surrender - soaked and spiced figs with vanilla bean gelato. Oh. My. Word. I also recommend doing it Italian-stylee with the drinks by starting off with a refreshing Campari and soda, a vino rosso to accompany the food, and finally, a herbal Averna to wash it all down. It's la dolce vita in a meal. Really.

Nothing was fancy, mind you, but everything was simple and delicious (except for the greens and meatballs). I had about 5 appetizers, 4 main, 3 sides, and a dessert plus ample alcohol, and all were excellent. Linguini with dried tuna was specially amazing - I had ones with dried/salted sardine in Sicilly which was better, but his version is probably as good as u can expect outside of the homeland. It's also one of the two pasta items on the menu, btw - Sicilians less reliant on pasta and tomato sauce, and more on herbs, fish, eggplant, lemon, cinnamon, etc. The main fish was also fantastic. Simply grilled with lemon, caper and olive oil. All the dishes were 8- 15 dollars each, and expect to share on table. Very family type restaurant where u drink inexpensive table wine and enjoy simple but delicious food with friends. Make sure to call in to reserve as tables are filled quickly by local patrons. There are two bar chairs where u can dine quickly. Olive oil- non spicy kind- is amazing. I'm jealous. If I lived here, I'd buy a couple bottles a week to use it at home. Not a place to impress, but a place to cherish. Definitely worth a visit or two or more. U lucky dawgs.
