"...YES..GOOD..BUT COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER..SO EASILY..."
I'd really like to give it a 3.5.. better than a 3, but not quite a 4..
Visited DEGANI BAKERY CAFE in Roxburgh Park last night for dinner.
I'd bought an 'Our Deal' Voucher - 3 course Lunch or Dinner for 4 - $75 - Food only.
With 3 large soft drinks and 2 orange juices, it cost just a little under $25 each..a 'super easy on the pocket' good value meal..but, with a jug of oil & vinegar dressing, on the table..it could have been really fab....!! Sometimes..just the simplest little things....
We started with 2 sharing patters - 3 very generous assorted dips, pitted black olives, piquant feta cheese, fried beef salami and pita bread. We were hungry..it was good..although it a could have done with a good drizzling of olive oil..as happens traditionally..really lifts the flavours..
Too soon, though, our mains arrived..no break between..
We had: 1. Fish of the Day served with shoe-string chips and half a plate of mesclun salad, no complaints..we love our salad - BUT SALAD NOT DRESSED - it only needed a simple vinaigrette dressing..would have transformed the whole dish..and especially cos it made up half of the dish..and it was an important component..it was needed.. 2. Eye Fillet served with sauteed vegetables - very generous with the vegetables, and the beef was tender [not sure it was eye fillet, but it was a decent cut] ..a really great value meal..this one..! 3. Open Lamb Souvlaki - 2 grilled lamb skewers, again - undressed mesclun salad, pita bread and a generous helping of tzatziki - once again..if the salad had only been dressed.. 4. Open Chicken Souvlaki - as the lamb above, but with chicken instead..I really enjoyed the skewers..tender and succulent..but, the salad was definitely needed..I couldn't eat it undressed..I asked for some olive oil..but it wasn't olive oil, rather some sort of vegetable oil..I think?
Anyway..dessert was good - very generous wedges of cheesecake - Yes, they we're those factory made ones you see everywhere nowadays, but the crumb was crisp, the filling..creamy and moist, and the fruit topping..sharp..just what we wanted....
No room for coffee..we were more than full..
Ambience: Nice modern exterior and interior, Very clean, Comfy timber round-back chairs. Outdoor seating. 3 built into the wall TV's - if you like this...
Service: We had a lovely young woman as our wait-staff..very friendly and welcoming..but as it started to get a little busy, she had to carry the load alone, for quite a while....
All in all, we'd go back again, for coffee and cake, or a pizza..but for another dinner for 4..? - Possibly only with a voucher..
Decent home-style cooking.. but please 'dress the salads.. generously'.. it makes a great big difference..
