What science didn't mention is that this particular hyperbaric chamber looks like it was designed by someone who hates people and coffins equally and thought, "Why not both?" The first session (60 minutes) was $170--pricey, but I was desperate and hopeful. Dr. Campbell told me 90 minutes was better (of course it was) and quoted me $255 per session. But wait! There's a discount if you buy 20 up front--just $150/hour. That's right folks, it's a medical procedure and a time-share sales pitch! I decided to dip my toe in the pressure-filled waters first, did 7 sessions, then asked if I could buy the remaining 13 at the discounted rate. And just like that, it was like Dr. Campbell morphed from doctor to dungeon master: "Nope--you'd need to buy 20 more to get the deal." Because obviously, math is a vibe, not a rule. But the grand finale was worthy of an Oscar. I booked my last session via text (no time specified), showed up, and told them I only wanted 60 minutes. All good, right? Wrong. After the decompression, my neck didn't agree with the movements and I was in pain all day. The Chiropractor called back "advising" or talking straight for 3 minutes, convincing me to stay on the treatment. His logic for continuing treatment made sense, but his tone turned me off. Perhaps, I'm off the mark at reading this office's intentions; however, their concern for your care (starting from the check in desk to every movement through the office), is motivated by the punching in of your PIN number at the front desk (they are oh so friendly when you do that action). During the phone conversation, the topper was when I politely refused to come in again (exercising my entitlement to not experience any more pain when I'm taking a chance on a unsubstantiated/ unresearched form of machine therapy in the medical community), Dr. Campbell chastised my decision by focusing and deferring to himself, his feelings, and his knowledge, by saying he was "disappointed". Wow. Please don't scold your patients. I know many M.D.s, and that is a "No, No" despite the feeling to do so. Yes, you may think you know better than me, but you are not the utmost authority on my condition. Even a more highly accredited Harvard neurosurgeon is not the utmost authority. You must respect the will of the patient. Instead, his persuasion came off as very "I missing out on potentially thousands of dollars of income from this patient, so I will bully her into coming in." Again, you might get a different experience, but bedside manner is paramount for patient faith in anyone's skills. Perhaps I would have stayed on, if the they would have approached in a less aggressive and desperate manner.
