Although there are exceptions to the rule, when I see a big tasting room selling a bunch of stupid gift garbage, and a parking lot that has a special space for a bus/limo, I get worried.... Desert Wind Winery was no exception...wines were watered down crap....the worst winery that I stopped at while I was tasting earlier this week. If you are in a group of people who are drunk and on a bus tour, you will probably have fun here, but if you are more serious about wine and sober at the time, just skip this place. Only reason I am giving them two stars is that the tasting was complimentary and the staff were friendly. read more

Staff was delightful. Friendly and helpful. We were very impressed with the ambiance - the main public areas were a cross between southwestern adobe and a kasbah in Morocco. A step above the ordinary making a visit very special. We lucked into a cooking class the night we arrived. The Executive Chef from Picazo entertained us with informative commentary while cooking 6 courses of world class food. Truly, if you can plan a stay around the guest chef functions, it's a special treat. Check out the restaurant n Prosser if you can't meet the chef in person. Stayed overnight in a lovely room. Fireplace, balcony overlooking the Yakima River, huge shower. Complimentary bottle of wine and lovely glasses of port after dinner. Very romantic and special. read more

Another couple and my Wife & I recently stayed in two rooms here, and felt pretty conflicted about the place. Unfortunately, the negatives were enough to detract from the enjoyment of our weekend, so here goes. I'll start off with the problem areas. We hadn't even left Seattle yet after work on a Friday, and received a phone call from the 2nd couple we were meeting at about 4:45pm stating they were just called by the winery, and we had to check in by 5pm or not have a place to stay. Luckily they were in Prosser at the time, and checked in for both of us - would have been nice to know ahead of time. We never did receive a phone call. The next morning we walked downstairs to put the room on our gift card, and use our credit card for any incidentals. The lady behind the counter 1st tried to check us out, despite us stating we were staying for another night. She then told us we were too early to check in for the day, and we again told her we were there the previous night. We finally left and came back later that evening to get it straightened out. On checking out on Sunday we had money left over on our gift card from the rooms, and upon checkout, were going to clear the cards on wine or gifts. We had to wait until 10:30am for anyone to show up so that we could checkout. This place is not staffed to cater to their overnight guests, at all. The restaurant was pretty quiet, we had appetizers there one evening, and they weren't bad. The wine was okay. read more

This place is absolutely amazing! It ranks among one of the best hotel wine experiences that we have ever had and that includes Napa and Sonoma. We checked in right before they closed because after they close the staff leaves and you are on your own (not a bad thing)! The young lady her name is Lacey at the front desk gave us an unhurried tour even though they were closing. She even took the time to jump the stone fence and pick just some grapes that one of their wines is made of. The head wine host was cleaning up and took the time to talk to us also. Lacey jumped in and she did the most complete and enjoyable tasting of the day. They have all kinds of wines and do-dads like sauces for cooking and fancy dips etc. Trust me when I tell you that you don't want to pass this up! We stayed in the Sacajawea room with a Rain forest shower with a jetted jacuzzi tub. It was a huge and very well apportioned space complete with fireplace and a good sized balcony overlooking the river. I could go on and on about this place. One more thing, the robes provided are amazing. Breakfast is included as well as a complimentary bottle of their wine. You can choose a red or a white. Desert Wind Winery is right off the freeway as you come into Prosser. It is a large facility with many different varieties of wine. This was my second stop on my wine tour. We tasted two varieties from the barrell and some others. We also ate lunch here. It was a great experience with friendly staff and great food. They have a crab quesadilla that is pretty good. They actually put a decent amount of crab in them. Overall a wonderful experience. The only downside is that the back porch, (which is beautiful) has a lot of noise from the freeway. read more

So my dad and I had come over to Prosser to do some wine tasting. We got parking easily enough, and it looked like a fine place-big and airy, lot's of little goodies for enjoyment. But, when it came to a tasting-and it wasn't busy by any means-we stood, and waited, and waited and waited. And for the record, we were not "smashed" or likewise, we were just standing there, getting ignored. Blatantly. I made eye contact with one girl-who didn't say anything and continued fiddling with a knife. Another fellow was wrapping a large gift for someone but he at least acknowledged us, and said "it'll be just a moment". He was busy, but at least considerate. The two other girls behind the tasting bar were just...rude. Finally, we just left...and the funny thing is-as we-a father and 40yr. old daughter left- a big big limo pulled up and we watched, and counted 9 drunk, girls-they were stumbling-pour out of the vehicle. I booked the Charbonneau room for 2 nights. Nothing special. Overpriced cheap wine. The restaurant is extremely overpriced and low quality. $92 for dinner for two. $11 for a basket of potato chips??? This is not a pet friendly accomodation. Bring your dog and that will set you back $500. Grand total for 2 nights $1,500. My synopsis: Overpriced room for 2 nights with dog $1,258 Overpriced dinner for 2 $92 2 nights I will never get back...priceless read more

This place is an absolute gem! My wife and I stayed here 2 nights for our anniversary, and it could not have been better. Each staff person we encountered was friendly, professional and bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our stay. The wine was fantastic, and the ambiance was perfect. Definitely worth the trip. (Hint: If you get there and the doors are locked, knock). read more

Where do I start...the wine is delicious and a good value compared to most the wineries in Yakima Valley...the staff is super friendly. We stayed in the Sacajawea room...we have stayed in some amazing places my husband and I agree this is the most beautifully decorated and most comfortable room we have ever stayed in. Just visited this winery tasting room. Ju;y , 2016. We did not stay at their facility, but despite the lovely wine tasting and gift shop room/facility and friendly staff...we were all three were very disappointed in their wine tasting selections. They doubled their tasting cost this year, to $10, refundable with $25 purchase. BUT, the three of us did NOT find even one wine worthy of purchasing. It is the only winery in the area where we did not buy even one bottle. :-( I tried hard to like something..... and I love good full bodied reds, but the two last ones on our tasting left our mouths completely puckered and "dry" with prematurely released (or poor quality?) wines, loaded with tannins. Yuk! Doused it all with crackers and water and left. We would not return based upon this experience. Sorry. read more

We had a wonderful stay for a weekend in early July. The room was beautiful. We had joined the wine club, as a previous post had suggested. The breakfast was very good. Even though we are members of Duck Pond Winery in Newburgh, OR., Stephanie made us feel just like local members of Desert Wind. We tasted our favorites, and purchased them. My wife and I will definitely return to Prosser, stay at the "Wine Country RV Park" again, and enjoy some of the other Vineyards that we couldn't see this trip. 5 Stars for both Stephanie and Desert Wind. read more

I have been here before and had a wonderful experience. Although on Sunday, Father's Day, my husband and I went by for a tasting and the door was locked at 1pm. Hours are everyday 11-5 anyhow, someone else from the parking lot called and then a woman came to the door and unlocked it. She did not apologize or greet any of us which I though was strange. Anyhow the other couple went in first so my husband and I looked around the tasting room a bit before we sat down at the counter. There were 2 ladies working however again no one greeted us or said "be right with you" or anything. We waited for about 10 minutes and then left. While we were waiting another couple had come in as well and was sitting at the counter. I understand that wine club inquiries and pick ups can be confusing but it doesn't take 2 people and one of them could have acknowledged the other guests in the tasting room. A smile and an "I'll be right with you" goes a long way. read more

Stayed one night in the Jean Baptiste Room. My wife and I loved the the stay. Very large comfortable room with big screen TV and surround sound. Wonderful bathroom with huge shower. The stay included a free wine tasting and a bottle of wine in the room. The gourmet breakfast delivered to the room included warm bread, cheese, fruit, granola, pastry and orange juice. Delicious! Suggestion: Stay when dinner is offered at the winery. Dinner options in Prosser are limited. read more

We have been there twice and both times, the staff was friendly, wine great, especially for the price and the facility is amazing. We ate at the restaurant and it was unbelievable, food, service, friendly and caring and reasonable. I wish we lived closer, but we live in Olympia. Even though, it is worth the drive for a special occasion or a get away. We joined the wine club and have booked a room there for my wife's birthday because we had such a good time. read more

this is without a doubt the best accommodations i have ever had in washington state! my husband and i were pleasantly surprised when we checked in and were greeted by informed help. they instantly had us tasting wine and relaxing. they only have 4 rooms and all are elegantly appointed. we had dinner in their superb dining room and when we joked about wanting to have dessert in our room they accommodated us and delivered 2 piping hot berry crisps within 15 minutes. in the morning they delivered a beautiful breakfast to our room (it's included in the room rate) we ate it out on our wonderful patio off our room. perfect in every way, we are already planning on making this an annual trip, next time bringing friends. read more

The in laws were talking about all of us doing lunch at the Desert Wind. So I decided to Yelp it - Glad I did as I took advantage of the special deal - buy the $10 coupon and get $20 off. So we saved $10! Lunch was on the spendy side but all meals were amazing, even the dressings are hand made. The restaurant has a semi open kitchen and you can view meals being dreated. Our orders included the Deconstructed Chicken Pot Pie, SW Pulled Pork Sandwich, 2 Soup & Salad Combos - one salad being Caesar with chix - which was YUM! and the other with mixed greens - the soup was tomato and it was probably one of the best tomato soups I've ever had, and my Hubby ordered the chix sausage special. I would say that of all meals, the special was the least satisfying for my hubby, not enough meat or sun-dried tomatoes for intense flavoring. He was still hungry afterwards. The pulled pork was by far the biggest meal and was served with an abundance of fries. And my father in law devoured the pot pie and said it was delish! The outside of the building doesn't look like much but I was extremely impressed with the interior, highly impressed! It is very stylish, comforting and very, very relaxing. The store carries nice items and they are displayed exceptionally well and are easy to view. I purchase 4 bottles of wine and a few store items using the 25% discount on Yelp. The restrooms are very clean - mens have TV's above urinals. Womens have a complimentary orange clove lotion, which I ended buying in store. 5 adults and 2 tiny children descended upon this beautiful winery and restaurant late one Friday evening, having driven 3 hours to get there. The staff was so welcoming and accommodating, bedazzling the kids, and tolerating the chaos well, tho there were many diners enjoying intimate, romantic dinners in the room. The food was beautifully presented, and so delicious. A couple of us had the seafood pasta special which was delicious, plus their steak was juicy and tender, cooked to perfection. Very nice menu with lots of green offerings, plus substantial meals, delicious salads. Will drive another 3 hours one way this weekend to go again. read more

Last weekend, my husband and I headed to Yakima wine country for a weekend stay at Desert Winds Winery. Walking in, you're instantly ready to relax and sip some wine. The inn only has 4 rooms total, and ours, the Jean Baptiste suite, was gorgeous, spacious, beautifully designed and very comfortable. We had booked the couples culinary retreat package, so on our first night, we enjoyed a private cooking demonstration with executive chef Kristin Martilla Johnson. It was fantastic. She led us through preparation of an amazing three course meal with wines (of course). Great conversation about her experiences as a chef, Desert Wind, tips for better food prep and more. If only I had her kitchen. I highly recommend it for all who visit. We also received a tour of the winery and wine tasting. All the staff are welcoming, fun to talk to, highly knowledgeable about wine, and offer plenty of ideas on other wineries and restaurants to visit. We will definitely go back. read more
