ONE STAR -- GET A SECOND OPINION BEFORE AGREEING TO ANY MAJOR DENTAL WORK HERE. I had been a patient at Desert Smiles Dentistry and went in on August 4, 2026 for nothing more than a routine six-month cleaning and X-rays. I left being told that I needed crowns or veneers on my four front teeth because, according to the dentist, I had been "cracking my teeth good" I was shocked. I had Invisalign three years ago, religiously wear my retainers, have always taken excellent care of my teeth, and have never had any significant issues with my front teeth. I've even done teeth modeling because of the appearance of my smile. The dentist pointed out visible lines on my front teeth and specifically told me these were new and that he had never seen them at my previous six-month visit. He then had his front office provide me with a quote for FOUR crowns. I was also told that if I decided to move forward with his proposed treatment plan, I could receive a discount because, ironically, the practice was having "Crown Week" at the end of August. He even told me that another dentist would probably try to convince me to crown my entire upper mouth. Thankfully, I did not agree to anything and immediately sought a second opinion. I was evaluated by another dentist today, and the difference in professional opinion was astounding. She explained that what I had been shown were craze lines -- common lines that naturally develop in teeth over time, similar to wrinkles as we age. She explained that the lines were internal rather than external, told me my teeth were essentially in excellent condition, and said she would not recommend doing anything to them at this time. She further explained that perhaps decades from now, as I reach my 60s or 70s and normal wear progresses, veneers might become an appropriate cosmetic option. She specifically did not recommend crowns on my healthy front teeth now. What makes this even more concerning is that during my 12-year-old daughter's previous routine cleaning at Desert Smiles, we were also told that she needed an expander. She has since been evaluated and treated by an orthodontist and got braces this summer. An expander was never recommended as part of her orthodontic treatment... Recommending four crowns on someone's front teeth is not a minor suggestion. Crowns require permanently altering natural tooth structure. Had I simply trusted this recommendation without questioning it, I could have undergone significant, irreversible dental work that another dentist believes is completely unnecessary. The fact that I was presented with a four-crown treatment plan, given a quote by the front office, and then informed about a "Crown Week" discount only added to my discomfort with the entire experience. Based on my family's experiences, I have completely lost confidence in this practice. I strongly encourage anyone who receives a recommendation here for expensive or invasive dental treatment to get an independent second opinion before agreeing to anything. We will absolutely not be returning to Desert Smiles Dentistry. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with this dental office. From start to finish, it felt like the priority was generating revenue rather than providing patient-centered care. During my visit, they performed an oral cancer screening without clearly explaining that it would be an additional charge. They also applied fluoride varnish without asking for my consent beforehand and then billed me for it. I did get additional services that were needed but before hand I brought up a billing issue from the past that I wanted to avoid. The lady from the front assured me that it wouldn't be a problem. This was not the case now one week later. They also repeatedly pushed orthodontic treatment after I had already made it clear that I wasn't interested in braces. Instead of respecting my decision, I felt like I was constantly being haggled for additional services. The billing experience was even more frustrating. Rather than trying to understand or resolve the issue, the employee insisted that the problem was simply my insurance company's policy. I explained that my husband has the exact same insurance and has never experienced this issue, yet this was the second time I had to pay the office myself because the insurance company was unable to pay them directly. Instead of looking into whether there was a problem with their billing process, she argued with me and dismissed my concerns. Without any explanation, she suddenly placed me on hold. When someone else came on the line, she identified herself as the manager. She told me they don't control insurance company policies, which completely missed the point of my concern. I wasn't asking them to control my insurance company. I was asking them to investigate why this issue keeps happening with their office. Rather than trying to understand or resolve the situation, she told me she would close my file because I was "not a good fit" for the practice. That response confirmed my impression that this office is more focused on collecting payments than on providing good customer service or resolving legitimate concerns. Patients deserve a dental office that is transparent about costs, obtains informed consent before performing optional services, respects a patient's decisions, and works collaboratively when billing issues arise. Most people are willing to move forward with recommended treatments when they understand the benefits and the cost and when it fits within their budget. What patients don't need is to feel pressured into services that weren't planned or to be treated as a problem when they ask reasonable questions. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. read more

This office seems to be all about running up a huge insurance bill and draining your beginning of the year dental coverage benefits! They put more focus on financial profit than patient care or patient satisfaction. My visit was my first, and will also be my last. Scheduled cleaning weeks prior to appointment & was told that's what I'd get; instead I was put in a chair for over an hour & faced a full set of exrays and afterwards a separate second set of exrays, different from the first (that are only allowed by insurance maybe once every 3-5 years). Eventually wondering if I had been misled, I began to inquire as to what stage of my appointment would I get my cleaning. I was then told I would NOR get one because they don't do traditional cleanings (but only laser cleanings) and for those a prior authorization would need to be done. Why wasn't that revealed to me when I made my appointment? Initially I provided plenty of data when making my appointment that should have prompted them to be up front and completely transparent! I even discussed my current treatment plan with my previous dentist and cleaning schedule based on my ongoing dental health. They had ample time to disclose their office info and/or processes, even after my insurance benefits were confirmed, which was way in advance of my scheduled appointment! Now, I'm in a strange predicament because if I go to another dentist my exrays allowances have already been exhausted by this money motivated office (they're very sneaky). It appears that they had no plans on providing a cleaning from the start, yet they took full advantage of exhausting my exray coverages, one of which won't be allowed for at least another 3 to 5 years! One more FYI; amid a so called pending prior authorization, they haven't attempted to make any contact with me since my visit - another example of poor customer service!!! Stay away . . . I found Desert Smiles on Google and decided to give them a try and I'm so glad I did. They made a situation that usually feels overwhelming so much easier. The staff was amazing, every single person I interacted with was helpful, kind, and genuinely cared about making me comfortable. Kimmy was amazing. She went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable during my cleaning. The three ladies at the front desk were also great and very helpful. If you're planning to come in for a consultation and quote for the "$99 Healthy Smile Cleaning," be aware that this fee does not actually include the cleaning. After the exam and X-rays, they may suggest a more specific cleaning or mention there isn't enough time for the one you booked. When I asked if I could just get the "Healthy Smile Cleaning" as part of my $99 consultation and cleaning appointment, they told me they couldn't do that, which says a lot about their agenda. The staff was generally pleasant, but the doctor took only a quick look at my teeth before recommending several treatments. They will try everything they can to save your teeth as well as making you comfortable while doing so. Update- this practice is extremely rude. I had bonding done to fix a recently chipped tooth. I have white teeth and brush twice a day. They made the bonding color yellow and is clearly visible that it doesn't match. When brought to their attention, the owner and dentist was condescending and said maybe I should brush my teeth to make them "less yellow." The only tooth that's yellow is the bonding they did- as a dentist he should know that you can't change bonding color. Very unprofessional. read more

if i could give a zero i would. i came in about 2 years prior got an exam and x-ray was told i had a cavity. got a root canel done the next week and a fake tooth put in. was not told of anyyyy other cavities. now after 2 years i have a tooth deteriorating and another one in constant pain. after trying to schedule an emergency appointment was told they would not see me. i paid 3k originally and then they sent another double charge to collections and did not contact me whatsoever. this place is soley out to get your money they do not care about the customers i do nottt recommend this place to anyone. i highly recommend you go anywhere else away from here. 0 customer service and 0 interest in trying to help resolve the issue. i will be seeking legal actions as i do have all receipts from this visit!!!! read more

I am not generally afraid of the dentist, but it is an inconvenience to make an appointment and go, so like many I put it off until I know there is an issue. Also, back story, I chipped my front teeth when I was a kid, so dentists always have a range of recommendations on how to make it look good. Desert Smiles Dentistry is absolutely amazing with scheduling. I missed my appointment a few times and they had no issues rescheduling and did not charge me any fees. Then, at the actual dentist appointment, it was better than expected. They ask you how you think your teeth are from 1 to 10, which is interesting. They seem to care about you. For me, they started work on fixing my tooth that is in pain right away, the same day, rather then scheduling another appointment. That is good service! Ariel is awesome! Regarding my front chipped teeth, they asked me about them, but bai ally told me they would not really even care about it until everything else was 100% good. That is a bit different from other dentists who go immediately to grinding or pricing out veneers right away. Lastly, location, location, location. Due to previous experiences (at a dentist in Flagstaff) which involved lots of crying and absolutely no compassion, I put off going to the dentist for a few years.
