Leading up to my procedure, I was quoted an anesthesiologist fee of $800 per hour with an expected 1.5-hour surgery, totaling $1,600. However, when I spoke with Dr. Khan three days before my surgery, I pointed out a $400 discrepancy in the quote. He stated that this was a mistake and that his flat rate was $1,600, regardless of time. I calmly explained that I was simply trying to clarify the cost, as I had saved for this procedure based on the information provided. I also mentioned that after the surgery, I planned to leave a review about my experience. At no point did I say I would report anything to the dental or medical board--only that I would share my honest experience online. Shortly after, Dr. Pontikas called me, stating that Dr. Khan told him I planned to file a complaint with the medical board--which was completely false. I reiterated exactly what I had said, but Dr. Pontikas insisted that he had "no reason not to believe" Dr. Khan. He then stated that because of this, he no longer felt comfortable moving forward with my procedure. To be clear, I never threatened to file a complaint with any board, nor was I aggressive or unreasonable. I was simply advocating for financial transparency. Instead of resolving the discrepancy professionally, my words were twisted into something I never said, and I was denied medical care as a result. Patients deserve clarity in pricing and the ability to express concerns without fear of retaliation. I am leaving this review because transparency matters, and I believe future patients should be aware of how this practice handles concerns.

We moved to Scottsdale about six or seven years ago. My wife did a ton of research before picking a…read moredentist and she chose S&L with Dr. David Ngo. I went with a different place at first because it was closer to where we were living. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I ended up having a bad experience there and finally switched to S&L. Dr. Ngo and his team fixed everything the other dentist had messed up. Right away I knew my wife had been right all along. I've been going to S&L for four years now and they really are the best dental office I've ever been to. Dr. Ngo has removed all my old metal fillings and replaced them with modern ones, plus he's done a couple of crowns for me. Everything looks and feels great. My wife has also been extremely happy with all the work he's done for her too. I'm almost 55 and I've seen a bunch of top-rated, highly recommended dentists over the years, both here in the US and a couple in Mexico. Nothing else comes close. One thing I have to mention is how good Dr. Ngo is with people who hate dental visits or get nervous about pain. His work is excellent, but it's the way he takes care of you that makes the biggest difference. For example, the way he does Novocaine shots is unbelievable. You barely feel it at all. Every dentist out there should learn his technique. With all that said, I do think the front office experience could be better. If the customer service up front matched Dr. David's clearly caring vibe, it would be 100% perfect. If you're looking for a truly professional dentist who gives five-star care and service, this is the place. Dr. David Ngo at S&L is the only one I would recommend without any hesitation.

He is knowledgeable and professional and always takes time to check in, even during routine cleanings. I usually don't wait more than 5 minutes for my appointments. There have been times where I needed immediate dental care and they are able to work with you to fit you in as quickly as possible. I have recommended him to many people throughout the last 8 years! At a previous dental office in Miami I had a terrible experience that started with a routine cleaning that turned into a root canal 6 hours later and left me with significant anxiety with all things dental related. I found out a few years later after moving to Arizona that the root canal was not performed correctly and I had to get it re-done. Dr. Ngo is incredible at calming nerves and making you feel safe when in uncomfortable situations, especially with anxiety. He talks through every step in advance and during the procedures, so that there are no surprises. He takes extra time when numbing the mouth so that the pain is tolerable and at times barely noticeable. I really appreciate this and feel like it's rare to find. I highly recommend Dr. Ngo and S&L Dental for all your dental needs.

Have you tried looking for a periodontist in Phoenix?…read more Me too.... and if you've had my experience. You know it isn't easy, there's not a ton of information available online, and you really want to make sure you make the right choice. I came to Dr. K. (trust me, I still can't properly pronounce his last name - something he doesn't seem to mind) at the referral from my dentist. To be honest, I had a consultation for the recession of my gums on several teeth nearly a year before, and left the other specialist's office with an uneasy feeling that haunted me for some time. My dentist assured me that Dr. K. and his office staff were a notch above the rest, and I'm glad I took her advice. I had a consultation and as previously diagnosed - gum grafts were in my future. Starting to feel uneasy again (and made no better by googling gum grafts - which, do yourself a favor and take both mine and Dr. K.'s advice and just.... DON'T) I scheduled my procedure. I had opted for the Alloderm grafts that Dr. K. specializes in (opposed to a more invasive, significantly more painful sounding procedure previously offered to me in another office). Needless to say the next couple of weeks were a countdown to what I was sure to be a horrific experience. Up to this point, I had never had extensive dental work done and my neurosis and anxiety were getting the best of me. Plus, my incessant googling (again... DON'T do it) trying to find some other soul who had a decent experience with the procedure was nowhere in sight. The big day arrived, and I showed up properly medicated. The expectation was set very clearly I would be spending most of the morning in the office (13 teeth is a lot of work). I head back, put on an eye mask, pop in my headphones to start pumping jams..... and that was about it. Several hours (and one quick bathroom break) later and I was done. The only major discomfort I had throughout the procedure was some sharp pinches when they gave me the numbing medication.... but that was really about it. I was a little dizzy, I assume from the anxiety medication and time in the dental chair, but much to my surprise, the horror I had read about online wasn't what I was experiencing. I headed home confused as to why this procedure sounded like a scene from a horror movie online, but for me it seemed like a romantic comedy? (ok - kidding here. but seriously, it wasn't nearly as bad as the internet would lead you to blieve it is) I'm not going to lie and say the entire experience was all unicorns and rainbows (reference above - gum grafts on 13 teeth - clearly there was some swelling and mild discomfort with the stitches), but nothing that wasn't manageable with the medications they provided me. I'm also not a big fan of the soft/easy to eat food diet while having stitches in my mouth... but was made aware there would be some restrictions during the recovery process. So finally, the big day of removing my stitches came. That lovely Snickers bar I had been lusting over for weeks was finally within my reach. A little extra time in the chair getting the stitches removed and I was done. Believe it or not, I'm not a gum graft expert. But I can say I do notice significant more coverage on the teeth that were worked on, and couldn't be happier with the results. Of course Dr. K. also performs other miracles, which I can only assume have just as fantastic results. The fact is, throughout the entire process the entire staff went above and beyond my initial expectations of what it was going to be like going through this procedure. Thank you Cynthia for taking my calls with tiny questions and making me feel at ease, and thank you Lory for being a fantastic assistant and keeping me calm through the process as well. I would without question recommend Dr. K. and his staff is you're needing some work done. They really are a notch above the rest and I am happy to have chosen them for this procedure I had been previously dreading. Thank you for the 5-star experience!

They do a wonderful job. When I discovered that my bottom front bridge had failed, Dr K suggested replacement with an implant. It was expensive and wasn't covered by insurance at the time, but I made the decision to go with the implants and have never been disappointed. The procedure was easy and mostly painless, some discomfort and swelling handled easily by Ibuprofen. The result, AWESOME. Just like having normal teeth. Dr K and his staff are wonderful, going the extra mile to make you feel comfortable and cared for. Your dental health really does come first at this office.

I went to Arcadia Dental Arts for the first time and was really impressed with how thorough my…read morefirst appointment was. It was literally the most thorough dental exam I've ever had, with digital X-rays (including the panos that my last dentist didn't do), CT scans if needed, lots of photos, a tooth-by-tooth evaluation, oral cancer screening, even looking at mobility, jaw movement, etc. (Finally my knowledge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle comes in handy.) Dr. Pappas even pointed out something I'd brought up to a different dentist years ago and had completely forgotten about. He's also very transparent about whether a treatment can wait or needs to be done right away. The hygienist I had was also very thorough, so I definitely felt like I was in good hands all around. I switched here after a decade at a different dental clinic that had been cutting a lot of corners. As someone without specialized knowledge, navigating dental care can be frustrating and time-consuming. I find it so frustrating--as someone with no real knowledge of dentistry--when I feel like I to have to spend time attempting to research what dentists or other doctors should be doing so I can make sure they actually do it, or to figure out what to do about pain or issues they dismiss or tell me to ignore. We all have enough things to worry about without trying to become amateur dental or medical researchers. So it's a breath of fresh air to go somewhere like Arcadia Dental Arts where I can just kick back and relax knowing they're covering all the bases. Also the office is really nice, and it's right near Lola Coffee. And they have a super cute new patient gift bag, which was a nice touch! Glad to have found a new dental home.

I was referred to Dr. Malek for 2 implants in the upper front, very visible, area of my jaw. I have never had implants so I didn't know what to expect, nor the right questions to ask. First off, Dr. Malek's office is absolutely beautiful, just like her! I'm not 100% sure but I believe it's an "all women" staff. I love that!! I do wish the invoicing was a bit more clear. I, personally, like to know how much my debt will be before accepting it. Unfortunately, that's how all dental offices work, I just did not ask the right questions at the right time. That's a me problem! I was given Fentanyl as the local anesthetic. The surgery went well, I healed fast (3-4 months), no complications. Dr. Malek personally followed up with me the very next day after surgery. She even established open communication via text message. After the first week, I thought one of my implant's placement was incorrect but Dr. Malek reassured me that it was the swelling that made it appear as such and once it heals, it will be even. She was right, it healed beautifully!! I couldn't ask for a better dental implant experience. Dr. Malek is an amazing Periodontics but here's the reason I absolutely LOVE Dr. Malek as a person... after she released me from her care back to my general dentist to place the abutment and crown, my former dentist broke one of the abutments in my implant. Traumatized! I walked out of his office with a missing front tooth and no remedy. I didn't know what to do so I contacted Dr. Malek in tears. Just to mention, this was 2 days prior my international vacation. My anxiety was through the roof. On her day off, she called me back just as shocked as I was. She followed up with me multiple times for about 2-3 weeks. In my heart, I felt that she actually cared about my health and the turnout of this unfortunate incident. After successfully completing her part in my dental journey, she had no obligation to provide empathy and care about me but she did! Although things took a horrible turn in my treatment, Dr. Malek was always there for me and it was great to get a second opinion after being failed by my general dentist. Good health/dental care is difficult to find in AZ, especially in the West Valley. I'm so glad my former dentist referred me to Dr. Malek. She's one in a million and great at what she does.
