This was basically a third opinion. Our first podiatrist said their were bone spurs, and…read moreprescribed orthotics. Fairly conservative, but helpful. He indicated achilles surgery might be needed. Then he joined a medical group, and we sort of wandered away. The second podiatrist went straight to surgery, which we consented to. Basically, detach the achilles, file down the spur, and reattach. After all that, the problem isn't any better than it was. Enter Dr Rowe. He evaluated the foot, and then ordered a series of MRI images to be taken. In hindsight, I have to wonder why the previous guys didn't do that! His conclusion: of course the achilles surgery didn't work because the calf muscle is a bit too short. So the spur is growing again because the underlying problem wasn't fixed. The calf needs to be lengthened. He was very up-front, very friendly, and not rushed. He stayed until all our questions were answered. We've declined for now, but I was impressed that he wanted detailed pictures to see what was really going on, and then made a suggestion that made sense. I think we have a new podiatrist. I suspect that surgery will happen, but for now we're going to live with it.

When my daughter asked about laser treatment, Dr. Doi stated, "Its not that effective and I doubt you could afford it." When we got home, we looked at the paperwork and saw the doctor had diagnosed our daughter with Gout. My daughter is 24 and in great physical health. She does not have Gout. If you decide to get treatment here, do not choose Dr. Doi.

After the second visit we received an additional bill for the second visit for $116. When we spoke to our insurance and asked why the first was not charged but the second was, they stated that the second visit had a different code than the first and it was not covered by insurance. When we called the doctor's office and asked why it was coded differently when the service was exactly the same, they had no answer. In fact we were told that they aren't sure why. They have refused an explanation yet still state we owe the $116. I suggest any possible new (or even existing) customers think twice before heading somewhere that they can't tell you why and what specifically you are charged for.

With the AMAZING help and persistence from Kristin Free (an administrator in billing and claims at Wheeler), and after 15 months of her and I working together, Cigna ended up paying the outstanding amount of nearly $700.00. Not only did they prepare me for the future but mentally it has been a gift that no rehab center or Doctor could prepare for. I had a BK amputation of my left leg in February, as of today (6/9/2017) I finished my first week back to work. It wouldn't have been possible with the Mcclevee team.
