Desert Moon Music has been a fixture in El Paso music education community for as long as I've been in El Paso. Though they have changed ownership and moved several times, the obvious love and care that the original owners founded this music school on is evident. I can honestly say that the newest location is the best in terms of room space, decor, and accessibility for students. Having had several nieces and nephews (as well as friends) take lessons there over the years, I've had the chance to get to know some of the teachers can vouch for the overall integrity of the owner as well as the teachers. I am particularly surprised that they operate without long-term contracts. This is not the norm in El Paso and they are an ideal studio for short term residents of the city as well as military families because of this. I don't know the exact policy, but I believe it's a 30-day cancellation policy if you want or need to end lessons. I don't know how many teachers they have, but I've seen excellent Improvement in my niece who plays flute and studies with Ann, my nephew, the tenor , who studies with Steven, and a close friend who is taking piano lessons with the owner for several years. I've heard good things about their other teachers, but don't have first-hand knowledge of that. I do know that in any music school, it is always a partnership between the student and the teacher that makes the educational experience work. There will always be students who have the desire to do music but do not have the drive or ethic to do the work. Music can be incredibly fun and beautiful, but it is hard work. What I value about desert moon is that the teachers there want all of the students to reach their full potential and embrace the full power of music. This might not seem to be the ideal place for a student who aren't as committed to practicing, improvement and good musicianship, but even those students deserve the opportunity to learn good technique. read more
