My first experience with the endodontist was not great. He was very rough and broke my tooth off in the course of a root canal. Granted, it was a weak tooth and I think he was the new guy. However, the next day I received a call from them and instead of checking on my well being, they were calling to tell me I had paid the wrong amount and needed to come immediately and correct the mistake. Blaming me for THEIR MISTAKE! I paid the amount I was told to pay. They refused to admit it was their mistake. So I paid it. I later went back for my follow up which was included in the original appointment. I agreed to an additional xray and was told the amount it would cost. I paid that amount upon leaving that day and then found they billed my insurance for the follow up that was supposedly included in the original cost of the first treatment. Not only that, I was called again after that appointment and blamed and disrespected for a past due balance of a copay that was never billed to me. The main endodontist here is good but their billing and customer service sucks!! read more

TLDR: Be careful if you don't want to pay roughly $800 more than necessary for a root canal I had an exam with Dr. Radatti and he went over the prices for a needed root canal with me. He said there would be a $575 fee for an "obstruction removal" that I'd need to pay out of pocket since insurance wouldn't cover it. I thought that was strange so I asked for the procedure code (D3331) and googled it and found this article: https://www.aae.org/specialty/2016/06/24/cdt-codes-d3331-and-d2955-use-dont-abuse/ It explains that this procedure code is often abused by endodontists and that's why insurance won't cover it. I called around and talked with a receptionist who's been in the field for 15 years and she said she'd never seen this code used before, and then another local endodontist receptionist said that if there's a need to do an "obstruction removal" at their office there is no extra charge. So I went there. That endodontist did an awesome job on my root canal. I didn't mention the other endodontist to him at all but I asked him about having three canals in a tooth instead of two (Dr. Radatti said it was unusual and that's why there might be a need for an "obstruction removal") and the endodontist who did my root canal said that this is the norm for that tooth, a molar. Not unusual. Also, Dr. Radatti said I needed a CT scan in order to diagnose that I needed a root canal, and I paid $190 for it. The endodontist I ultimately went to would have only charged $120 for the same CT scan, but he did not need to do one--he said it was clear just from looking at the x-rays that I needed a root canal. The basic exam was also more expensive with Dr. Radatti at Deschutes Endodontics, about $185 instead of $127. So going to Deschutes Endodontics instead of the other local endodontist would have cost me about $800 more. The $575 I would have paid for that obstruction removal fee and the $250 more out of pocket I ended up paying for the exam + CT scan there (that I would not have had to pay if I'd gone to the other place in the beginning). Dr Radatti's office got me in on 1 days notice, and the dire pain I experienced for one month prior was totally gone after two hours. It was my first root canal and I have had absolutely zero pain post -operatively! He even kindly warned me that I would probably experience some pain, but I was pleasantly surprised that there has been no pain, NONE! Thank you, Deschutes Endodontics, for getting me in so quickly, efficiently taking care of my tooth problem, and being so kind and caring. The doctor and staff very nice. Had the procedure done with basically no pain. The reason for the low rating is because they mislead me on the amount of my responsibility. I received a call from them making an appointment. At that time they said my responsibility would be $500.00. when I asked why so much I was told I had used up the allotted amount of my insurance. Was told my amount would start over in a month and then my responsibility would be $400. Made the appointment and had the procedure done and paid my co pay. Two months later I received a bill for additional $500.00. Will pay but never go back or refer. read more

Today I experienced my 1st endodontic procedure. Yes, the dreaded root canal! I have worked in the dental world the past 15 years & have known some great dentists, Dr. Duval is one of my favorites. The doctors & staff at Deschutes Endodontics are the best! I was impressed at how quickly I was seen, diagnosed & treated...all without stress or pain. Everyone really cares! Dr. Duval is caring & amazing at the work he does. Root canals are not an easy procedure, however he & his assistant Kimmie make it so easy for the patient! They really make you comfortable - expert numbing technique, a roll behind your neck, optional bite block, funny conversation (even if it's difficult to talk they understood you), ending with a warm towel & review of the procedure. Ryan Duval is an expert--plus, he is kind and funny. I laughed a few times during the root canal procedure (without laughing gas and with a rubber dam over my mouth)! I have to mention Dr. Duval's assistant, Kimmie, as she was steady-handed and even-keeled. She was concerned for my well-being and kept things moving along at a good pace. Dr. Duval and Kimmie were a great team. I felt well cared for. Both Kimmie and Dr. Duval listened to my concerns beforehand and made sure my needs were met throughout the procedure. We rent a home in Sunriver during the summer months and during our last vacation in central oregon I had a dental emergency. I called my dentist in Washington and she told me that based on my pain and the quickness in which it came on I might need a root canal. She called me back and said that she got in touch with a local root canal dentist (Deschutes Endodontics) and they got me in the SAME day and fixed the tooth that was causing all the problems. I saw a younger doctor (Dr. Duvall) who knew his stuff and was really gentle. He did a great job and it obviously was not his "first rodeo" as we joked about how many root canals he'd done. He said I'd feel better in about 2-4 days and he was spot on, by day four I was back to normal (and the other 3 days I just had to use an Advil here and there). I'm glad my dentist took the time to find someone who knew their stuff like Dr. Duvall. I'd never been to a root canal doctor before but I can see why they are there. This poor review is really unfortunate, because with a little foresight and understanding, Deschutes Endodontics could have easily received 5 stars. I recently had a root canal performed at Deschutes Endodontics by Dr. Radatti. The procedure went fine, but the billing ended up being a nightmare. The first thing I did BEFORE receiving any service was provide insurance details and request that DE confirm coverage amounts and total due by me. DE then provided me with a figure based on my insurance company's coverage. The problem with the billing came AFTER the procedure. Apparently DE had a 'miscommunication' with my insurance company and the amount now due was now double what was initially quoted to me! I'm reasonable, I realize things happen, and I know it must be difficult dealing with insurance companies, but that is a billing department's job right? Had I know the final bill would have been so high, I could have looked for another endodontist, someone in network, but was not afforded that option due to the timing of the mistake. Long story short, everyone dropped the ball but me, however, I was the only one who had to pay for it :( I asked for a call back to discuss options, and left two phone messages, but DE chose not to respond; they just sent the bill over again essentially saying sorry we screwed up, but it's on you :D That lack of professionalism and follow up by the billing department just really left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I have never had a root canal so I had some slight anxiety about it, but I knew I could not put it off as I was experiencing a lot of discomfort and it was getting worse by the day. I met with my dentist who contacted Deschutes Endodontics for me, and they called me just a couple hours after I left my dentist. They were able to authorize my insurance, give me an expected amount to be paid, and were able to get me in their office for an exam in less than 48 hours. I arrived at the office and was greeted by friendly staff, dental assistants, and Dr Duval. He explained what was going on with my tooth, showed me x-rays, gave me my options, and put me at ease that being in the chair was my best bet. He and the team there were repeatedly checking in with me during the procedure, which was painless and not uncomfortable. I took a little nap while they worked in my mouth, I was that at ease with what was happening. I was in and out of there in two hours and left with assurances that all would be well, as well as expectations of my pain post-surgery. I had no pain at all just 48 hours after my treatment, and the pain I did have could have been avoided if I'd only not chomped down on granola the day after my treatment. My wife and I were travelling to sunriver oregon for our honeymoon, when she got an unreal toothache. After a horrible experience With several Dentists in Bend not being open we finally found a place Called Skyline Dental ( 5 stars on Yelp) Who was able to refer Us to Deschutes Endodontics because my wife needed an emergency root Canal. These guys are the best! They were very cool & nice. Dr Duval was very informative and direct, he didn't BS us or anything he got the surgery done very quick & did an amazing job ! My wife had a Root Canal a few years ago and She Said that Dr. Duval was much better than the Previous Dr. she also Said that he charged about half the price that her Previous Dr did for a root Canal. DO NOT CONSIDER GOING ANYWHERE ELSE!!! and btw Dr. Duval told us that if you ever have a dental emergency that you Should always call an Endodontist first! Based on some marginal dental work done a few years ago in another state I needed two root canals redone. Dr. Duval and staff were great. The first tooth was pretty straight-forward and redone in one visit. Lots of care for my comfort and keeping me pain free. The second tooth was more involved and took two appointments some weeks apart. Again lots of care to keep me pain free and providing an understanding of what was being done and why. I had a very angry tooth that within the last couple of months I had a new crown put on. After a fair amount of time I couldn't bear the pain any longer and Dr. Gilmore referred me to Dr. Ryan Duval for a root canal. I have complete anxiety when it comes to dental appointments due to child hood traumatic experiences, so this review comes with a life long fear of dentists. I left his office just having experienced the best dental visit of my life. Duval's care and compassion was of the highest quality. He treated his staff equal to or better than he treats his patients. If you are unfortunate enough to ever have to have a root canal done do yourself a favor and let this man be the one you trust. My tooth was very bad with an infection. Here it is less than 24 hours later and I can chew on the right side of my mouth, something I haven't been able to do in a couple years. I was Referred to Dr. Duval for a rootcanal to be done a week from today, but had a bad tooth ache this morning. I called and they got me in the same day. I was so impressed by how friendly and knowledgeable the staff is. The Doctor is a true professional, he is quick and efficient.
