I have OHP which is basically useless for dental so I needed to find a place with an in-office plan. Alpenglow's is $100 to start then $35 a month which gets you 2 cleanings and x-rays each year and 15% off anything else. My x-rays were quite the adventure. I gagged one time which is normal for me. But the very nice and well-meaning hygienist wanted to help. She asked for a shaker of salt. Someone else in the office said she had one. She then comes over with a test tube of "salt" to put on my tongue to distract me so I wouldn't gag. I was highly suspicious... so I tasted some. It was citric acid. SO acidic it burned. They told me they were going to put a stripe of it on my tongue! So glad I stopped them! Just putting the story here so you can also stop them because wow that would have been awful if I'd just trusted them and had a mouthful of citric acid I expected to be a quick shake of salt. Besides that, I saw Jennifer Montgomery and really liked her. She taught me how to unlock my jaw which no one has ever taught me and I've had jaw issues since childhood. She did a thorough cleaning and didn't diagnose any problems that weren't there which is a huge problem in dentistry. Glad I found someone I can trust! read more

Weeks ago I had my 2nd and LAST dental appointment at AlpenGlow Dental in Bend. Here is why I call it LAST: I chose AlpenGlow when I was having trouble with Advantage Dental in La Pine. They had staffing issues. Covid was to blame and having a dentist from Portland who had to drive during snow season didn't help. Reading the good reviews of AlpenGlow, I went for my new patient appointment to get my teeth cleaned there on May 25, 2023. Due to a series of medical emergencies I had to cancel the next cleaning appointments but I went to them on November 14, 2024 and left feeling sad. After seeing what was the X-ray technician, then dentist who did gum check (I thought she was the hygienist because I never had a dentist do this), then I briefly saw THE hygienist as she peaked in the room to say she didn't have time to do my scheduled cleaning as I "needed deep cleaning that would require two appointments". I heard horrible gum numbers I have never heard in my life. I later showed my daughter the estimate and she said it was the 2nd high estimate she heard from them recently. I'm in my 70s and I have had some long-term dentists. I miss the one who retired as he took care of me and my four kids for over 27 years. I know the routine. Most dental appointments have been good for me, but I didn't feel good about the last appointment with AlpenGlow. I felt hustled and I don't even remember their names, if they gave them to me. No small talk. I also wasn't even shown my X-rays which I later realized no dentist has ever done that to me. I was told the X-rays were in the other room I didn't get to go into. Other dentists would have shown them and explained my options. Not sad now. My teeth were cleaned in one appointment by another dentist, and I felt the way I have about the good professional dentists/hygienists in my life and I'm going to return there. Saw my X-rays, no rush. Merry Christmas to me--I saved over $900! So glad I got a 2nd opinion. I got a normal cleaning with the addition of a deep clean of two teeth, not four sections. I only had a topical to help with pain on those two teeth. This is the first time in my life to be told I needed a deep cleaning. I realized that it had been almost one year and six months since they were last professionally cleaned. But somehow I needed a deep cleaning of two teeth. A few teeth below needed a little extra attention but nothing like those two teeth. I have never felt the need for a second opinion but I'm glad I got one. The office of AlpenGlow has a beautiful vista, but I am not willing to help pay for it. read more

In May 2025 after several visits to Dr McNaughton for routine cleaning and exams, I was surprised to hear her suggest a Deep Cleaning. I decided that I would just schedule a routine cleaning for my next visit because I didn't feel more than that was warranted. In September the day before my scheduled appointment I received a call telling me that I'd need to arrive early because a Deep Cleaning required more time. I ask to speak to Dr McNaughton and she said she wouldn't do a routine cleaning. I told her I was going to get a second opinion before having a Deep cleaning. Much to my surprise I received a letter telling me she was withdrawing from further dental treatment immediately. I did proceed to receive a complete examination from another dentist in November and was told "you are pretty boring your teeth are fine and your gums are fine". Further I was told that a routine cleaning was all that was necessary. I was very disappointed that the trust I had placed in Dr. McNaughton had been violated by insisting upon an unnecessary and expensive procedure. I had my first visit at Alpenglow today and was extremely pleased and impressed by all aspects of this practice. Jenna was my hygienist, she is detailed, gentle, and thorough! She's incredible! The office runs smoothly, barely any wait time for my appointment, I was routed to Jenna quickly after arriving. Very modernized, each station seems to have its own X-ray machine readily accessible, and the panoramic machine for the 3-year scan was quick and easy to use as well. No clunky inserts needed for either scan, I was very impressed by the equipment. The overhead TV was nice too, it made my 90-minute cleaning pass quickly. I also appreciate that the hygienist had insurance detailed information readily accessible, so she was able to inform me about coverages and extra costs right there, without having to check in with the front desk. Alpenglow has its practices nailed down to a science! I also learned today that they offer free introductory visits for kids, with a focus on making it a fun visit and shake off any fear. read more

Everyone raved about this office on some of the local Facebook groups here in Bend. People, especially newbies in town, would always ask for recommendations, such as with dentists, and many would name this place and Hallie. The hype is real because I had a wonderful experience! I moved over to this office because my previous dentist was so booked, that the next available appointment for a simple cleaning was in 9 months!! It was a good office, but that wait is just ridiculous. I ended up moving to this office and am glad I did. Everyone is so nice, warm and friendly! Dr. Hallie McNaughton is awesome too. Great place for dental service. Very professional and friendly. Received on time and started service as scheduled with minimal wait. The staff was very cordial and gentle compared to other dentists I have used. They were interested and listened to our past dental experiences. I recommend the fluoride treatment at minimal additional cost since our water is not flouridated. Both my wife and I were impressed with the office and staff. We recently decided to change dentists. Driving all the way across town to our previous dentist was just just not working out, especially in the winter. After looking around and talking to a few people we made a decision to approach Alpenglow. One day after a chiropractor visit, same building, I walked in to Alpenglow and asked to meet the dentist. Well Hallie came out, in her mask, me too btw, introduced herself and gave me a personal tour of the new office. She also introduced all her staff and her husband who happened to be there that day. After answering all my questions, I felt quite comfortable and made an appointment to get my teeth cleaned. When I got home my wife and I reviewed the Alpenglow website and both of us went back so she could meet everyone too. We also signed up for their plan since we have no dental insurance. It's a great plan! Well we both had our teeth cleaned and each of us had a crown replaced that we had been putting off. We can't say enough about the entire staff and the treatment we received. Hallie is an amazingly talented dentist and her staff has been hand picked to echo her philosophy. Dr. Hallie McNaughton extracted one of my lower teeth yesterday (11/11/21). She sought feedback from me repeatedly. The entire process was very easy to deal with. She is super-calm which kept me equally calm. I am in my 70s & have really never had such an agreeable dental experience.
