Today I went to get an oil change. In the 35-40 minutes I waited, there were roughly 6 other patrons who came and went. 5 of which were black. The white lady behind the counter clearly saw me as an ally (as I am also a white woman), because as soon as the first black male left she unloaded on me. I won't give a play-by-play of our conversation but here are some of the things she said: -I don't see color, it's the ignorance I don't like. -I don't like them to sit in front of the store waiting because it starts drama. -I suggest you wait inside if he comes back. I don't know him, but I just don't need that. -They put up this barrier between us for covid but it should be bullet proof. She also whispered the word "black" as if it was a profane term. And glanced around the waiting room before speaking disparagingly. I will never go back to Derringer Auto care in Springfield IL, and neither should you.
