This is by far the best place you can take your animal if you're having an issue that your primary vet can't diagnose. My French bulldog has had a multitude of issues and the care team at this facility has been exceptional. finding a vet that can scope an ear is surprisingly challenging, and this facility has that and can properly diagnose issues as soon as possible to avoid a number of unnecessary other vet appointments. My dog had an ear issue which we found out to be a polyp in his ear that was removed by the team here and they did a fantastic job. We're very lucky to have them in our neighborhood and I hope they stay around for a very long time. read more

The doctor did a rundown of possible reasons for the conditions, but nothing concrete. Gave prescriptions, a salve for her nose and pill meds for her ears. Told me both conditions should clear up in 2-3 months, 3 month check in, ear meds are slow, but it is getting slightly better, her nose that would be clear in a month, was not, and just slightly better. Interesting was told the salve/ointment had steroids in it, so I could only use it 2x max a week. I come back for a check up over the last 2 years, and the meds are very slowly working, but her ears are flaring up this year. And I mentioned it is hard since I cannot use the salve more often since it has steroids. When I said that the doctor excuses himself and then sends in his tech, and they tell me I can use the ointment every day, BUT does not mention that it does not have steroids. And in all appointments the doctor did not say we were done, but left and sent the tech in with the salve/ointment, knowing he had made a mistake and not saying anything. It makes you not trust anything he has said. And there is one male assistant that is extremely condescending and straight out rude. But the nonsense does not stop here. I needed a prescription for the ear meds. Asked for it to be called in. Appt was on Friday, by Tuesday I called the pharmacy and there was no prescription, emailed the office, they called the next day saying they called it in. I picked it up, it was the salve/ointment that I had already purchased at the clinic. So I had to call in again. I asked the office assistant, did you not see that I already had the ointment, she said yes, but she did not mention this to the doctor. I needed a wellness exam with my regular vet, and she told me she could help me with the skin issues no problem, and felt the nose was misdiagnosed. She was shocked at this, and disappointed with his notes as my regular vet had my pups skin records sent over. I mean come on, this Dr. Mel ONLY works on dermatology, but could he be more conclusive and not misleading. AND when I got my first appointment, it was really hard to get an appointment, this last time, there was many day of or next day appointments to be had. AND the overall rating for this clinic has gone down, and it should set off alarm bells to simply not come here. Please read all the reviews, I am not sure what is going on but this doctor is not very good at his job. I simply do not understand going to school for years and doing a shabby job. First of all, let me begin by saying that the front desk staff and the nurses were all super friendly and kind. I was referred to this clinic by my vet because we were trying to figure out the skin condition on my Boston terrier. We make our appointment and the first red flag was having to pay for half of your appointment in advance. So the day of the appointment we get there and we go straight to our room that they have ready for us. It has my dog's name on the little dry erase board and we're thinking oh this is really cute. Then the doctor comes in and he gives his little spiel, barely even examines my dog, and does this whole presentation on the little dry erase board with all kinds of medications and info and of course he throws a couple more price tags up there you know. And he leaves the room so we can discuss which route we want to take. And he never comes back. $400 later, we end up being told that there's a shampoo and some medication that we can get on Chewy. What a racket. I had to pay $400 for a specialist to tell me I can get what I need on chewy? Why couldn't my vet tell me that? And why couldn't we figure it out at a specialist what exactly is going on? I know my dog has allergies. I just want to clear his skin up. If I went to a dermatologist and showed them a rash on my skin they would say , oh , that's so and so, use this. And what's up with the doctor coming in the room doing his little presentation leaving and never coming back? Very weird experience overall. Don't waste your money. read more

My little furbaby Choco's been suffering from recurring skin infections from a mystery allergic reaction. We've made a handful of trips to the vet to put him on oral antibiotics, steroids, additional flea/tick preventative, and anti-itch medication, along with topical steroids and an allergy injection. They've definitely helped with keeping his symptoms to a minimal, but we never found the underlying cause and the scabs kept coming back. After spending a good amount of money, I opted to go to DCA to have him allergy tested. First of all, WOW to all the staff at DCA with their friendliness! Choco usually gets really uneasy with strangers and he NEVER takes treats from strangers but within a few minutes, he was taking treats from Dr. Mel and let all of the medical staff (Dr. Mel, of course, the veterinary student who was there to observe, and the assistant) touch and examine him. Dr. Mel gave a thorough explanation of how we usually get down to discovering and treating pet allergies. He listened very carefully to all the past symptoms I observed (how Choco had sensitive stomach as a puppy, isn't itching much with his recurrent scabs, but will itch when his skin gets infected) and we eventually narrowed down to a potential food allergy. I've notified him that I've switched around Choco's food with different proteins, but he told me that there's a risk for cross-contamination at the factory (or kitchen), which I hadn't thought of. I was pretty much ready to pay the big bucks and get Choco allergy tested, but he actually said that with Choco's symptoms, it didn't seem like an environmental allergy so we should start with a food trial and then see if things get better. I wasn't hit with any hidden costs, everything seemed very transparent and reasonable. When no one answered the phone, I filled out a request via their website, to see the doctor about my furbaby, who had been suffering from a really bad skin infection (I'll spare the gory details). I never did receive a call/email reply, so I went to our local vet, who prescribed some medications. The meds worked for a little while, but the situation/suffering came back and increased. I called Dermatology Center for Animals, and got a human, who told me "you can sign up for an appointment on line". The next appointment wasn't for 3 weeks, so I called back asking if there was anything they can do to help my poor girl. The reply was, "No, just pick an appointment (in 3 weeks) and if you do decide to cancel, we keep 50% of the fee". THIS is how you do business? We brought my greyhound Buzz here in July 2020 because he had a corn in his toe that kept coming back after ordinary excissions. Dr. Mel used a laser to cut it out and it never recurred. First off, because this is yelp, I'll keep it short and sweet. I'll give you the facts and my opinion.. if you want to read the full story, check out their facebook page! :) Initial Consult: $145 Follow Up Visits: $80 DO NOT STOP READING. Yes, the price seems steep. "Where am I going to get all this money? This doesn't even includes meds I may need to buy," is what you're thinking right? Well, let me tell you... it's worth every single penny. AND MORE. Their office is located in Eastlake in Lake Union, across from the Pro Sports Club. They have a parking lot on the roof with designated parking. Their office smells like a doctor's office, not a vet's office, you know how most vet's offices smell like .....bleach and pee? Yeah, this one does not smell like that. Enough with the way it looks and smell. Dr. Mel spent the entire first visit with us discussing what's wrong with Teddy, how we can work to treat him, what options we have, what steps we have already taken. He answered every single question we had... dumb or not. He was extremely personable, educated, respectful, and .. well, very likeable. We left that first visit with more hope and understanding of his treatment than I've ever had in the whole 2.5 years that I've been seeking medical help for him. Now, the reason I say that he's worth every penny and more is... If I add up all the bills I've paid for Teddy's treatment, it would have been well over $6000. It was not nearly that much here and it's been only 3 months since our first appointment and Teddy is 99% cured. I never thought it would be possible. 3.... months....! If Dr. Mel isn't doing something right, I don't know who is. Do yourself and your pet a favor and come here. I almost gave up on Teddy's allergies... thank God I didn't. read more

We took our dog to DCA after our veterinary providers were unable to definitively assess and resolve our dog's symptoms of imbalance and lack of coordination. It remains to be seen whether our dog will fully recover but my wife and I have been very impressed at a number of aspects of Dr. Mel's practice including the individualized attention received, his knowledge and skill, and his fair pricing (including transparency about what different treatment options would cost). The practice is also reasonably convenient to our home and work. It is not easy to find a specialty practice where the providers have the same combination of expertise, value, ease in making an appointment, friendliness and empathy. We would highly recommend DCA. We want to add a special recommendation of Dr. Mel's medical assistant Kaitlin who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. She has been extremely responsive in answering our calls, providing updates and even coming to our home to give us a primer on how to effectively administer ear drops (which our dog had been very fearful of and resistant to). I wish I took my chow to Dr. Mel earlier and saved the money I spent at our regular clinic trying to figure out what my dog was allergic to. They let you know in advance how much an exam would cost. The staff was so nice and friendly. Office was very clean as well. The consultation was A LOT of information however, Dr. Mel narrowed it down to the different type of options I can go with. My chow is now on immunotherapy after the allergy test, exam and cytopoint? injection. My sweet boy is so much happier now. As with any medical specialist who spent additional time and money in school, he's definitely not cheap but worth every penny because my chow is so much happier! read more

We took my 11 year old mutt here for the first time today. My pup has been struggling with some type of allergy/skin infection off and on for three years. Our vet suggested we see an allergist since their clinic is smaller and they didn't have the knowledge for this. We went to an allergist close to our house for a tots of four times. Each time he just prescribed her antibiotics, spent maybe 5-10 minutes with us, and gave no testing or offered none for actually trying to figure out what the issue was. He even insinuated that she was basically too old to figure out what the issue was. The second time here he prescribed a med that caused liver failure and cost is about $2k in vet bills to "fix" her liver. After another unsuccessful visit, I found DCA online. It's about an hour trip for us to this office but it was worth it. Dr. Mel spent a little bit more than an hour with us, examining our dog, doing tests and talking with us. He even wrote this diagram of what it could possibly be on a white board and treatment paths for each potential allergen type. We were beyond impressed and although we know there won't be a miracle, we are happy to have a doctor who wants to actually help us and our dog. Highly recommend. read more

We love Dr. Mel and appreciate him diagnosing our pup's underlying allergies. With a simple switch of food, he no longer needs any meds or injections. His ear infections have also become way less regular. On our first appointment, he went ahead and removed known cancer spots on his skin with lasers which was way less invasive than other removals we've had to have done. (And very fairly priced compared to previous surgeries... Our pup has a form of skin cancer) I appreciate all of Dr. Mel's advice and care for our pup when we need to see him. read more

Dr. Mel is fantastic! My dog is an extremely picky eater. She's had allergies most of her life. She's had an ear canal ablation. Now her paws are extremely inflamed. Dr. Mel threw some kibble on the floor at the beginning of our appt. I'm thinking...no way she will ever eat that! So Dr. Mel is explaining types of allergies & treatments to me. I look down and Noel is scarfing the kibble down. Needless to say I was shocked. The difference in this food product is major from anything else on the market. Noel loves it, has only been on it for a little over a week and already her paw pads are shrinking. My cat has been suffering from chronic ear infections. After a few months on different medications prescribed by our veterinarian, I took her to the DCA and learned that she had a few polyps in her ear canal, as well as fluid behind the ear drum. *Brand New Clinic* I must say that I'm very impressed with DCA, Dr. Mel and staff. Don't let the pic of the building on Google maps detour you from visiting. A very new, modern and sterile environment is what you will find inside. Even though Dr. Mel is new, he is highly educated, well spoken, confident, and has a friendly demeanor. Something else that impressed me although it be a small detail. I very much appreciated the non slip pad and warm towel that was placed on the exam table. My dog has been suffering for months with a severe rash and extreme itchiness. I had an apt at another clinic but they couldn't see me for another month. I'm so relieved DCA could get me in immediately. We had a thorough consult, exam, skin scrape and were given a treatment plan. We are on day two and I already see improvements. Of course you are going to pay more $ than a typical Vet, keep in mind you are seeing a specialist. My cost for our visit was i feel appropriate and worth every penny. read more

We took are little Frenchie/Boston for rashes, I was VERY impressed with Dr Mel and his staff. He is quite friendly, professional and really explains things well to his clients. He uses diagrams and actual scopes and pictures. He is also confident and quite personable--with people and dogs alike. His assistant is also a great asset to his practice. They even tolerated us bringing our dog's sister along as she would not tolerate being alone. We are so lucky to have him within walking distance of us, but he is definitely worth a drive if one lived afar. Not as expensive as I feared it would be, given the location of practice. I brought my dog here because he has a recurring rash and we've seen 3 others vets since April, but all they did was prescribe antibiotics & never addressed why the same rash keeps happening. I thought going to a Dermatology Clinic would provide an answer and a solution. It did NOT. Although everyone from the receptionist to tech to vet was personable and kind, I'm not happy with this clinic. Basic office visit was $152-are you kidding me? This was just for the consultation and exam - didn't take his temp or really do an overall exam of his body. In fact, the vet petted my dog, but other than that didn't interact or exam my dog at all. A vet "resident" from University did the initial intake and as much as I applaud people continuing their education, I would have liked to been informed that someone in training was going to be doing the exam prior to my visit as I wouldn't have gone. Why am I being charged $152 for an office visit for someone with no experience to examine my dog and he basically took notes. I was then charged for 2-3 labs (receipt was difficult to decipher). Not sure why a lab was done on my dog's ears when he did not have an ear infection. Ultimately, I didn't receive any answer for the reason for my dog's rash and was prescribed antibiotics. Same as the 3 previous vets I'd gone to before. So, $499 later - not kidding - I still have no idea why my dog has a persistent rash. All other vets I've gone to have provided me with an estimate of charges BEFORE any procedures are done so I can make an informed decision. I LOVE my dog and don't mind spending necessary money on him, but this clinic is OVER PRICED!!! Especially when someone in training is "examining" my dog. I could have taken him to a much more reasonably priced vet for 1/4 of the cost, especially since all that happened was another antibiotic prescription. read more

Very pleased with my appointment. I thought DCA was easy to find. The parking on the roof was not an issue. I think directions were emailed to me, they were clear and concise. Everyone was kind and courteous. So happy Dr. Mel was able to take care of my cats ear polyp while I waited. Very quick procedure, at half the cost a regular vet would charge. This is the benefit of a laser procedure. Other vets should know about Dr. Mel's services. I have not seen any other vets who perform laser procedures. This is less stress for the animal, and no hassle of keeping your pet overnight,etc. My cat was a little sleepy afterwards, but she's forgiven me for inconveniencing her. Job well done read more

DCA has been great. The clinic is modern and the techs and vets are very friendly. Dr. Mel takes his time with my dog and doesn't rush things. Most importantly, he takes a lot of time to explain everything to us so we know exactly our options and where the diagnosis is coming from. My English Bulldog was having skin and nose issues. The nose issues are still being diagnosed, but the skin issues were narrowed down and treated perfectly. Kai, my 11 year old indoor cat, has had seasonal problems with his skin over the past several years. The treatments that used to make him better are no longer effective, so I recently decided to take him to a dermatologist. I appreciated the ease of scheduling an initial evaluation at DVA and was able to get an appointment almost immediately. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the facility which is attractive, modern and impeccably clean. Dr. Mel's demeanor was extremely personable and put me instantly at ease. During the exam, he was great with Kai who is generally terrified of everyone. He is well spoken and his knowledgeability was apparent as he communicated what he was doing throughout the exam. The visit felt efficient though not at all rushed, and when it concluded, I felt well informed about Kai's condition and optimistic about Dr. Mel's assessment and plan for going forward with a new treatment. What a great find here in Seattle, I was worried that I wasn't going to have much luck helping my 3 year old pug relieve her itching/dry skin, but so far so good! Rachel in the front office was SO sweet, and Dr. Mel was a super personable guy, they clearly love what they do and they do it well! Dr. Mel has so much knowledge in this field (hence the specialty) and relays the information in a very easy to understand way. The cost was not a huge concern for me, but he's very honest about everything upfront which is greatly appreciated. I left feeling so positive about my little girl's outlook to an itch-free life, I can't say enough great things about this new clinic.
