Had a disappointing experience with this clinic regarding their no-show policy. My last visit was sometime in June, during which I was scheduled for a follow-up 6 months later. However I never received any confirmation or reminders- no email, no text, nothing. Naturally I forgot about the appointment, only to receive a hefty $70 no-show fee. When I called to ask if they could waive the fee as a one time courtesy since it was really odd that I received absolutely zero notifications during this time period, they insisted that their system sent out reminders. If that were the case, why did I receive reminders for previous visits but not this one? Did Google and telecoms mysteriously fail at the same time? Their excuse felt dismissive and unconvincing. This experience left a really bad impression of the clinic. A more patient-friendly policy and reliable reminder system would go a long way in improving their service and keeping their customers. read more

Love this doctor! She is very attentive and is able to quickly diagnose the issue and offer a treatment plan. She removed two cysts, one from the back of my neck and one from my back a few years ago. The cysts have not returned, and I have no scars from the surgery. read more

I really didn't want to have to write this review but considering the fact I'm completely dissatisfied with experience it's a must. I went for an appointment that was supposed to start at 2:35PM I wasn't seen until 3:06. During my appointment with the first representative it felt rushed to the point I was over it and highly overstimulated and had to ask her to slow down. It then took over 10 mins for me to see the doctor which wasn't until 3:30 and the office closes at 4. Then I was told I'd be able to pick up products for my face but no one sent in my script to the pharmacy. I called the office the next morning and was told it wasn't sent in. I called later in the day and kept being transferred and having to leave voice messages. I didn't have this problem 3 years ago when I came but this experience alone makes me not want to return. read more

She reversed a hopeless diagnosis by another dermatologist by taken literally a deeper look into my situation. THANK YOU! The Indpls office staff (at least the ones who I've come across over the phone and a few in person) could've gotten this review one star. I am often met with rude, dismissed, sarcastic staff when trying to ask simple questions. As of this moment (and after a winter storm) my appointment yesterday was missed as the office was unexpectedly closed and remains closed today. For context - when confirming my appt on Friday I asked the young lady did she think the weather might pose an issue for my upcoming appt. I was taken aback when her response was - I DIDN'T CALL YOU ABOUT THE WEATHER. To which I had to school the rude tot with HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE WEATHER forecast? It's supposed to be bad out! Needless to say I made it to my appt and obviously the office staff did not. I feel a weather cancellation/postponement notice should've been sent out. DO NOT GO TO DERMATOLOGY ASSOCIATES, PC in Tipton or in Indianapolis!!!! I had a terrible experience with them. Do your research or ask around bc theres much better options out there than Dermatology Associates PC and how their employees/management treat you. They don't care about the patients, they care about the money and I truly mean that. The only reason I went here was bc this office was the fastest appt I could get. Other dermatology offices have a long waiting list and would've been 2-3 months before I could get in anywhere else and it's makes complete sense why it was so easy to get in there. Last year, I set up an appt to address my acne and scars that I've been recently struggling with. I had to pay a $150 consultation fee up front bc it was considered a cosmetic consultation. Shortly after, I receive a statement for the same appointment that was billed through my insurance? I call to inquire what it was about, along with wanting to set up my procedures for Morpheus8 cosmetic procedures that I ended up paying $2,700 upfront for 3 appts, excluding the numbing cream that was an additional, $120-$135. They explained to me that the reason why that they billed my insurance that same day after paying the upfront consultation fee was bc I asked an additional question outside what the consultation appointment was actually about At which I replied, "well, I was going to set up my Morpheus8 with you guys, but I feel its silly that I paid $150 upfront for you guys to turn around and charge me an additional payment through my insurance because I asked an additional question.." Like what!?! They ended up contacting me back and said they will void that statement and they'll go ahead and set up my Morpheus8 appointment. HA. I had 2 morphous8 appts which went fine, aside, not seeing results like I expected. Actually, I haven't really seen any results, if you want to be honest. Truly, don't think it's worth it. It most certainly is not worth going to this office. My 3rd appt was in Dec. I cancelled the day of, prior to the appt. There was a miscommunication between my sig other and I and he had to end up working that day. I can't take my kids to a 2-2 1/2 cosmetic procedure. Not to mention, I know they wouldn't allow it. So I simply had to cancel. I've never canceled on them prior. I've made all my appts on time and have even sat in the waiting room for 30-45 mins both appts to go back. Granted, bc it is considered a cosmetic procedure, I can understand a fee bc I cancelled the day of. ***BUT- this is where it gets really messy they called me later that day to reschedule my appt. They acted like it was no issue whatsoever that I canceled the day of and rescheduled me for January 22nd. I see a statement in my portal of a $150 fee from cancelling my appt for Dec. a week later. I show up to my appt today that was rescheduled. And the receptionist says, well, they scheduled you for the numbing cream, (FYI- which you have to sit in the back room for an hour-hour and a half to let the numbing cream set in before they start the procedure....she proceeds to say they didn't set up the actual procedure appt." So I'm like ok.. To me personally its not a big deal, things happen, things come up and mistakes are made. So she looks into it and she calls me back up and says hey they're gonna go ahead and do the procedure. Ok great. so I go and sit back down. I sit there for over an hour..OVER AN HOUR!!!!!! before I go up and say hey, do you know when they're going to take me back? She responds and says oh I thought they already took you back...After she gets done taking a puff of her vape. Like are we actually kidding right now? Vaping inside a doctors office. WONDERFUL. She says I'll go check on it, I'll be right back. A few more mins go by and I'm called up by the manager, LEAH THOMPSON. She tells me I no called no showed on Dec 27 and I don't have an appt today. I said I called in and canceled my appt, I didn't no-show. I explained to her my reasoning for canceling though I did understand it was last minute. She asks me to show me where I have an appt for today, acting like we all don't already know that I have an appt. I show her the 2 text reminders that I received for my appt that showed for today. Eventually, she ends up telling me we can do your appt today, but you're gonna have to pay for the appt. I was like what??? You mean you're telling me that I'm going to have to PAY AN ADDITIONAL $900 for this appt?! She says yes, bc you no showed, our policy will cancel out one of your appts bc it's a package. I said you're gonna look me in the face and tell me that I am out $900 bc I called and cancelled for a technical "emergency"??? like if I would've known that I was gonna be out $900 bc I canceled, I would have packed my kids up and brought them with me for you guys to send me back off, that way you guys couldn't out me $900!?! Ohhhh No!!! S uch a disappointment!! I will not be back ! I took time off work after waiting an entire month to see Dr Sonya Johnson, only to be ignored and disrespected by the receptionist when I arrived. She rudely stated that I didn't have an appointment and argued back and forth with me until I showed her my confirmation email and text. Dr Johnson, who witnessed the entire scene finally acknowledged me and said lit was okay to see me. The receptionist then proceeded to print off an old bill that was already paid by my insurance and $75 deductible's that I paid out of pocket. Stating there was an outstanding balance of $32.99 from 2023 that was not covered and I still owed along with an additional $60 in late fees. Both had to be paid before being seen.Dr Johnson finally came over and explained where the balance came from. Had I known that the balance was due to a deductible being unmet it would have been paid in advance. Dr Sonya Johnson was dismissive and unapologetic for her staffs unprofessional behavior. She lost a good customer due to lack of communication and poor treatment for such small amount!!! read more

Like I was literally in the parking lot when they called me. I arrived at the office for my first appointment and was told that the doctor had an emergency and would not be able to keep the appointment. I met with the doctor for my rescheduled appointment, and she seemed knowledgeable and personable. My problem occurred with my scheduled appointments. I made three appointments, and long story short . . . later was told I had made 6 appointments and I had missed the first three. I spoke to the office manager who insisted I had made these appointments. She even told me the first appointment was for a facial -- this procedure was never even discussed. I was charged over $200 for "missed appointments." Unfortunately, my attempts to resolve this were unsuccessful. read more

I'm new to the Indy area and was looking for a dermatologist to help out with my acne. This office was amazing! It was super easy to schedule my appointment and I was able to get in relatively quickly given that I was a new patient. They have an awesome patient portal that allows you to fill out your intake paperwork ahead of time so your time in office can be quick in and out, which I really appreciated. The office staff and everyone who saw me that day were so kind! Lexi, the PA, was very informative and was completely on board with re-starting me on topicals I had used awhile ago. I went in to discuss a sweating issue and was told the medication we went over would be covered and was told after by pharmacy it was not. Had to go back in and pay another co pay just for them to give me something else. I got that and scheduled an appt a year out and just got told this morning they actually had two appointments scheduled so I missed the one today and had to pay for it. I got no notice of my appointment today via email or phone which they have both. Not coming here again!! read more

I wanted to come back and leave some more love. I have been coming to this place for about a year now and for the first time in my life I have perfect skin! I cleared up pretty quick acne-wise but I had scarring from acne and the doctor suggested I do laser and it not only got rid of scars I had my whole life, it also evened my skin tone. It took years off how I look! I also saw q the esthetician who I see monthly and that has kept me free and clear of any pimples and acne. I also bought a few of the products from her line which are better than anything I have been able to find in stores in the past. I seriously look better now in my 30s than I did in my 20s, I really from the bottom of my heart can't thank these people enough. I was always self conscious and avoided taking pictures and social events whenever I had breakouts which was i felt like ALWAYS. It's an amazing feeling when your close friends and family notice and say OMG you look great, what have you been doing? I tell them to go check you guys out! Going here is like seeing friends, it's not stuffy like normal medical offices. Everyone who works there looks like they have fun and enjoy what they're doing. Wanted to comment on this response: 1. It was a 5 minute visit. They scheduled me for the last 10 minutes of the office hours so they were rushing through the visit. 2. Dr. Johnson did not look at my skin for more than a few seconds. 3. She states she prescribed me something, but she did NOT. Which goes to show how much she cares about her patients. I value communication with each and every one of my doctor's and I have never felt more uncomfortable with a doctor. I will never step foot in this practice again. read more

This doctor cannot be trusted! I went in with a concern about hair loss. Instead of having a conversation with me about my concerns to find what the problem could be, she ordered her PA to numb me so she could cut two plugs from my scalp. I expressed a concern with that since I was wanting a consultation and she said your insurance covers it, don't worry. Then when I came back to have the stitches removed she said your insurance also covers a full body scan as preventive every year. My insurance did not cover the full body scan and the biopsy she did revealed nothing. I'm $700 less than I was before coming to see her with no answers on my hair loss. Do not use this doctor. She doesn't care about her patients. She only cares about money. ____ Since the last review this doctor's office has resolved all my issues I had. The doctor called me personally and explained to me why she took the steps she took in regards to finding a diagnosis for my scalp issues. It all makes sense and would have made me feel comfortable the day it happened had I had the information then. As for my insurance concerns, that was worked out as well. All in all I got the proper care I was looking for and the office staff handled everything very professionally throughout the year it took going back and forth with the insurance company. Too bad my experience here wasn't pleasant in the beginning, however, based on how the issues were worked out, I would recommend this dermatologist. I have been seeing Doctor Johnson for about 7 years. I couldn't be happier. She is a positive ray of SUNSHINE. She has treated me for skin cancer and for a rash of unknown origin! She went over and above the call of duty in regard to my rash. She would not give up in trying to get to the bottom of it. Her staff is wonderful now. I must say that when I first became a client, the staff was not on the same level of professionalism as Dr. Johnson, but that has changed! I've been a patient of the office for several years and have identified over time that Dr. Johnson's office staff lacks professionalism and customer service skills. First, it's very frustrating when you call the office you are immediately placed on hold. I understand that the office is busy and has multiple patients, but they really need to figure out a rotation that works so the receptionist can actually answer the phone and tend to patients in the moment. Additionally, it seems like almost every time that I need to get a prescription sent to a specialty pharmacy, the pharmacy never receives the prescription that the office staff claims that they sent over. I have had to call the office back on multiple occasions to have them re-forward prescriptions over to the pharmacy--which I don't believe a patient should have to do as it shouldn't be that hard to send the prescription over correctly the first time. I've had multiple instances where the office staff has given incorrect information, such as wrong numbers to specialty pharmacies, incorrect locations of pharmacies, etc. Lastly, it frustrates me a great deal that at times it is impossible to get in touch with the office due to their voicemail for "out of office due to lunch" going on all day long. Overall, I have been very displeased by the office staff, but want to make it know that Dr. Johnson is a very good physician and the reason above all that I keep coming back. read more

I get my laser hair removal done here. It's a doctor's office, but my procedures are done by an esthetician. She's very professional, works fast, and makes sure I am well-iced before she starts zapping away. I've never had a very long wait for my appointment and the office and clean and inviting. The staff have also been very pleasant. The laser is a Cutera Coolglide and it seems (2 sessions in) to be working as expected. I am an African-American woman with medium skin tone. I was nervous when looking for a laser hair removal office that would not damage my skin because I had heard horror stories in the past, regarding wrong laser use on people of color that would lead to burns. I had ingrown hair growth in my neck and chin area that was leading to discoloration and scarring. I did my research and decided on Dermatology Associates because there were people of color working in the office that had the procedure done on them and showed me the results and shared their personal testimony. I believed if we could target the thick, coarse hairs under my chin/neck area that it would reduce the number of ingrown hairs and thus decrease the amount and intensity of scarring in the region. I purchased a package of 6 treatments that were spread out over a year. The first treatment resulted in elimination of ingrown hairs. So I haven't had them for a year. Also over the course of the treatments I observed a decrease in coarse hair emergence and a decrease overall in darker pigmentation. I highly recommend this treatment at this office for anyone with similar issues. Dr. Johnson is a licensed dermatologist that performs the procedure herself. She and her staff are very professional. She takes care to make sure you are comfortable and are prepped properly for the laser treatment. I always iced the area before going into get the treatment and never felt any pain during or after the procedure. I hope this review is informative and helpful. These kinds of reviews were not available when I was searching and remember being extremely nervous and confused because i didn't know who or what to believe. I'm relieved and glad I found someone I could trust with my face/skin. I'm going to get more treatments in the future as needed and working on lightening the area even more. I was given a prescription to a $0 copay pharmacy that was no longer in buisness and never got the medication I needed. Unprofessional and unhelpful.
