I should read online reviews earlier, then I would not go this place. At the appointment the nurse briefly took a look and told us nothing she can do. Then she recommended us to schedule a separate appointment with surgical which cost thousands dollars, eventually we didn't go. During that visit no treatment, no prescription, maybe only referral to another appointment, we just received billing charge us $200. Does not make sense to me at all. I would never make any appointment with this place again. read more

Originally came in to have 3 skin tags removed that have been there for over 6 years. They were completely cosmetic. I was originally quoted $150 for the first 5 skin tags to be removed. Not a problem. Then the doctor comes in and he starts saying he can cover it under my insurance. I was surprised but grateful. He made it seem there would be no cost. I was very misled. I ended up getting a $300 bill which was double the cost of the original quote. I called and they said since it was labeled under insurance that there was nothing they could do. Then a month later I get a second bill for $148 for the test results they decided to run. Again since they were cosmic the test they decided to run found nothing. So in total, this originally $150 procedure turned into a $450 scam. Never returning. read more

I went to Derick for the first time for a routine yearly full body check (new to the area thus a change from where I had gone in the past). I wasn't seen by a doctor but by a physician asst. which I didn't realize until it was too late to ask why I wasn't being seen by a fully licensed dermatologist. She proceeded to remove a mole that I expressed have had for as long as I can remember with no changes and no concerns by previous derm visits. She did a supposed "shave" biopsy removal. I wasn't aware of the very large hole that was left in my arm until after removing the bandage the next day. It clearly should have been stitched. I was also given no directions on care of the wound by the PA, I had to look up such online. Now over three months later my arm continues to ache terribly when I exercise, golf or sleep on the arm as I do believe she either hit a nerve or did muscle damage. I've had over two dozen moles removed in the past and never had such a horrible experience nor lingering pain. I have really no scars from those previous removals but def have an ugly, long term poc mark on my front upper arm area from this one. Friends who have seen the mark healing had not hesitated to ask what the heck happened. I feel this assistant just needed to remove something to make some type of billing quota. And yes, it was no surprise when the biopsy came back negative. Secondly, I asked for some skin tags under one arm be removed; I was told it was told it was $150 for up to five; I'm sure my insurance would have paid for it but no one checked this and I paid cash at the end. I was so surprised that these skin tags were then removed by the young girl who initially sat in the office and asked me why I was here and sat through the biopsy incident taking notes. I am pretty positive she had no medical license to proceed with practicing removal procedures and def was not getting paid the equal to the extreme $150 for the approximately two minutes it took her to shave off the skin tags. I did express concern about a hard lump on my head that has been changing and was just told its a cyst (no biopsy on it was done) and I also expressed an itchy area in my back area and she just said it was dry skin (though there is def new growth going on that I can feel) and no remedy was offered to relieve the itchiness. I would NEVER go back to this office. Update: An office manager left a voicemail for me to call her to discuss my review. I did call her back and staff couldn't find her, I responded that I was returning her call and if she wanted to talk with me to call me back; I have never heard back thus making me feel this still ongoing pain concern is just not a concern for them! Update: After posting my update, the office manager, Christine, called me stating she didn't know I attempted to call her back. We did not have a pleasant conversation. read more

My family and I called Derick dermatology regarding my sister. She had gone a couple days prior to today to get a consultation for her acne. They put her on Doxicycline. Today, she woke up with an allergic reaction type rash by her neck. We called Derick dermatology before office hours were closed, they answered one phone call out of the three we made. Voicemails were left, but no calls were returned. We made the call at 1:30 this afternoon and their office hours are until 7 on weekdays. I just left a voicemail about 10 minutes ago knowing it was outside of office hours. If your office hours change, how about you update them on the website? Or you can do your job and answer the phones! read more

I'm really surprised about all the bad reviews. Had an annual skin check and everything was perfect from check in to check out. Everyone was efficient, professional and nice. The office was clean and beautifully decorated. Their computer system seems very new and efficient. Had to have 2 biopsy's and they were so easy. The dermatologist kept me very informed of what she was doing and made the shots and biopsy as painless as she could. Will definitely be back. read more

Exyremely overpriced! Terrible patient care and communication. The staff purposefully misled and lied about biopsy results that took over a month to receive. And after a month all I received was a phone call with partial results. No text or email with the results as promised. And on top of that the staff are rude and treat patients like begging vagrants. I wasn't happy with our appointment last week. We have had 3 kids come to the office and this appointment Wasn't good. The physical asst Alexa was very cold and robotic j felt rushed. Carly was not friendly at all she seemed irritated. My child has very bad acne I Know he will eventually need accutane but give me time to process all this l. They didn't want to give me a prescription because they were really pushing accutane. I was crying after I left I felt so pressured. My husband and I both came to Derick in Elgin for the first time for the first of many annual exams. I have never experienced a more efficient and perfect medical appointment. The office is beautiful. Check in was a breeze. But most important...the medical assistant and PA Erin were fabulous. I have seen 3 different doctors in the Elgin office over the past year and a half. They are the worst doctors I have seen in my life! None of them listened to my concerns, they treated me like I was wasting their time. They didn't offer to give me something to resolve the problem, only accuse me of causing the issue of undiagnosed rash on my face with itching and sores that won't heal. I am giving them 0 stars. My wife has had an ongoing skin issue for over a year, make an appointment to get her seen only to get a phone call that morning that the doctor can't see her. Wait if I cancel without a 24 hour notice don't I get charged??? Oh wait we can have another doctor see her but your going to have to pay cash out of pocket, really wtf can you do that!!! Then we are told it is at a discounted "cash rate of 40% off". Fine I'll pay the $80-$123 to get her seen. Oh wait you need to have a biopsy done, that's an additional cost OUT OF POCKET! I first went to Derick Dermatology in Barrington several years ago. The appointment was rushed and the PA seemed likewise disinterested and wanting to move on. I was surprised that as a first time patient I did not see or at least meet a doctor. Recently I was in need to see a dermatologist and with the current health crisis, Derick advertised online/phone appointments. I went on their website and requested the appointment and submitted my information. I have yet to hear from them. Nothing. Not a email, phone call, just nothing! I requested a time and day which had passed with not even an acknowledgement. Would not recommend or use ever again. A complete for profit, ring the register doctor's office. No real care or involvement with patients other than their wallets! read more

Tried to make an appointment and was told I would need to check with my insurance to see if they are in my plan. I said I have BCBS PPO which means I can go anywhere. They said I still would have to check. Any other doctors office I have gone to they do ask what insurance I have and then say yes we accept them. If they can't take the time to formulate a list of providers it seems they are more concerned about getting paid than working with their patients. read more

BEWARE! My son, who is 18, was given Accutane in January 2022 to treat his acne by P/A Jenny Brophy. As parents, we questioned the side effects of Accutane and asked for a different treatment method. We were met with arrogance and it was clear that Jenny took it personally by questioning her treatment method. We wrote a letter stating why my son was not a good candidate for this drug, letter was ignored. As time passed, the side effects began to show. Bloody noses, joint pain, aggressive behavior, withdrawing from daily life, sleep issues, and others. My son, who had a 3.7 GPA for his first college semester now is failing all 5 of his classes. We made more phone calls expressing our concerns and we were brushed off and dismissed and were told these side effects and behaviors are normal and they continued to say that he's 18 and there's nothing we can do. His behavior has become violent and aggressive and the police have had to intervene. The office manager in Elgin was shown the video of his violent behavior and we were told by Jenny and the office manager that he will not be put back on Accutane. Jenny also talked to me directly and stated that he will be taken off Accutane for 2 weeks and a new treatment would be discussed. I talked with Jenny on Wednesday April 6th. At his appointment on April 7th, he was prescribed Accutane and we were removed from his personal contacts so we can no longer be involved in his treatments. Jenny lied directly via phone call and disregarded direct evidence that her treatment advice is causing harm that she refuses to address. Derrick Dermatology doesn't care about their patients health or mental well being. As long as the patient signs their waivers they prescribe what they are told regardless of clear dangers they are causing. They take questions personally and ignore valid concerns and red flags. Do not take your loved ones here if you care about them. read more

The practice location is decorated very modern and the exam rooms were spacious and open. I was seen at my scheduled time and did not have to wait at all. Double thumbs up. read more

After moving to the burbs, I visited two dermatology offices I was less than impressed with. I was referred to Derick Dermatology from one of my co-workers who goes to their Barrington locations. None of the locations are too convenient for me, but since I don't need to visit and office such as this on a regular basis, I don't mind the trip out of the way, especially if the service is good, and in this case, it was. The appointment request online was easy, I got a call back right away to set something up with Jenny, who was my PA. This place is lovely! So clean and "hip" for a dermatology practice...not to mention I LOVE the purple here! Bree, the medical assistant working with Jenny was great too. The services provided here were just what I needed, I even walked out with my prescriptions which saved me another trip! I will make this my dermatology office for time to come. I highly recommend Derick Dermatology! My toddler experienced an eczema flare up and I was concerned because of the severity of the inflammation and areas covered. I was relieved to be able to be seen the same day because of their flexible hours. The provider was caring, thorough and addressed all of my concerns, which were plenty. They use a central phone service for multiple offices I called on a Tuesday and I was 21st in a queue to speak to someone. As the numbers go down a message comes on that states to keep your line in the queue just leave a message and you will be called back in that order. It is now Friday evening and no return call. Of course I kept calling and held my position in the queue when I got to call number 1 I hear a click and the call goes back in the queue. I emailed, for a return call again no return calls. I went to the office there were 3 receptionists and 3 pharmacy techs all were laughing and gossiping. I wanted my prescriptions transferred to a pharmacy. I approached the techs and I asked why I never received a call or response to my emails I was told they are short staffed. I know there is a call center but if there are problems put in place a message stating and request the patients to call at a later date and time read more

I had good service from Derick Derm, but just was notified by United Healthcare they are dropping out of the network and I can no longer use them if I want insurance to pay. Only one reason Doc's drop out of the huge base of United Healthcare patients....they want to charge more money than insurance will pay. So, off to find a new dermatologist that isn't out to overcharge and I don't want to continue to pay for the lovely purple glass chandelier and fine tile work in the beautiful Elgin office. read more

This is the second bad experience I've had at Derick Dermatology. My appointment today was for my annual skin cancer screening with a nurse and had been scheduled months ago. Normal drive time for me to their Elgin office is 15 minutes, but today I left early because of heavy traffic on Randall Rd. in Elgin due to repaving and construction. Today, the trip to Derick took me 45 minutes instead of the usual 15 minutes. When I arrived for my noon appointment at 12:15 PM, the waiting room was empty except for 3 receptionists not doing anything, and two people sitting together in the waiting room. I am almost 80 years old, and I was taken aback when I was abruptly told by the middle receptionist, who had beckoned me over to her, that they have a 10-minutes lateness policy. My appointment had been cancelled, because I was 15 minutes late which was over Derick's 10 minute limit. I briefly explained to the staff member that I was stuck in bumper-to-bumper construction traffic, but she wasn't interested--just kept saying my appointment had been cancelled and I could reschedule it. I asked to speak to a manager, but was ignored. I told the staff member that I would not be back to Derick, and I left the office. I'll find a better dermatology practice in the Elgin area, one that cares about and respects their patients more than making maximum $$$$ and spending a minimum amount of time with each patient. read more

I had my first juvederm procedure today. Needless to say, I was extremely nervous. I had researched extensively before deciding to go forth with lip filler. I wasn't totally self conscious about my lips but I did want to add more volume and symmetry to my top lip. My experience today was amazing. I felt at ease from the moment I checked in to the moment I left. Dr. Kenkare did an AMAZING job on my lips. She knew exactly what my lips needed. There was virtually zero pain. Just some discomfort but that was to be expected. I was in by myself because I had no one to accompany me. My medical assistant Shannon made me feel so welcome. I would like to give this company zero stars but since I had to pick something I picked one star. I scheduled an appointment on 9-29-2016 with Karen Smith-PA. I was under the impression that I was booking with a doctor as THAT IS WHAT I REQUESTED. When I asked if a doctor was going to see me, I was informed that there was no doctor in the building. I had a skin culture and I had to wait for the pathology results to come back. Well.... 3 months and 2 weeks later I called for the fourth time for my results and after a bunch of phone calls, emails, and faxes... I finally have my WRITTEN results... THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!! I cannot say enough about this practice and what an exceptional staff Dr Derick has brought on board at this location. From the moment I enter the office, the reception staff are welcoming and expedient in assisting the gathering of my information. I have never waited more than 5-10 minutes to get into an examining room and never have waited at all to be seen. Jenny Trophy PA-C is amazing. Her demeanor immediately put me at ease, with her extremely congenial, knowledgeable, kind and patient manner. I appreciated her attention to my concerns and questions and have complete confidence in her medical expertise and the practice as a whole. Eunice was wonderful scheduling my follow-up appointment and working around my schedule. Marissa, one of the office managers, stopped to make sure she said hello and made me feel as though I sincerely mattered as a patient. All of the above, honestly contributed to the exceptional experience I consistently encounter at Derick Derm in Elgin.
