Having been around for over thirty years, and run efficiently, with care, Top Hat really are very good at what they do. It is not surprising then, that they handle some pretty prestigious clients. Famous ones too.. like the Cardiff Rugby and Football Teams. Check out all of the shirts that they've got hanging on the walls! But for all you bounty hunters out there... think twice before you go and nab one. Not only does the bloke that works there, (who wants to remain nameless), look like he could be a ferocious contender in the running-tackle stakes, but the shirts on display won't fetch much on the black market... they ain't worth much if they're not signed! 07817 151 921

So when I brought one of my favourite dresses to Steamer's (as it's the only dry cleaners in Cardiff Bay), I didn't take too kindly to the fact that it wasn't ready on the day I was told. Fine. So I returned the following day, as requested. It still wasn't ready. The gentleman behind the desk told me that the clothes are actually cleaned at their off-site facility on City Road, where he called to check the status. At first they couldn't find it, and the thought of losing one of my all-time favourite items really didn't make me happy. But after nearly half an hour of back and forth phone chasing, they of course located it, but alas, it wouldn't be ready until after I needed it (which was the forthcoming weekend when I was going on holiday). I've gotta say I won't be coming back here, as the whole experience was needlessly unpleasant. It's worth it for me to drive to the Bay Morrison's or make the trek to Cathays or Roath where the customer service hopefully won't draw out the less agreeable aspects of my personality.

I shall be giving this place 4 stars just for saving my bacon alone…read more I'm that guy who no matter what he does, he will get it on himself. As a kid I used to look like a art project as a paint mixer at Homebase. So on a particular drunken night, I managed to spill half my glass of red wine down my brand new suit that was given to me as a present. Waking up with a lovely headache, it was made worse by the offending stain. Cutting a long boring story short, in tears I laid down my suit in front of Steamers and begged them to make the bad thing go away. They rid that badboy and my problems in one afternoon and called me up the next day to say it was ok to pick it up. The persona who served me was great and had a good sense of humour about the situation that made me feel a lot better. All this for a decent price (Anything is cheaper than the price of death) and I came away a relieved man.

As a previous Canton dweller, David Barnes was my friendly neighbourhood dry cleaners, one that provided exceptional results, every time. The staff here are friendly, always managing to keep a smile after a batty Yank comes in and, yet again, forgets her numbered ticket. Oops. I never really gave much importance to a dry cleaning facility and considered them all pretty much the same. That is, until said facility loses your favourite item of clothing, never to be seen again. Thankfully I never had to experience that at David Barnes, much to my relief. Here's hoping they open a Bay branch so my duvets, coats and suits can get the delicate cleaning care they require.

When I turned up to pick up the dress (after 4 months as they kept delaying it!) they said the wine stain that they had warned me about has been removed and said the dress is nicely packed between paper wraps in a box. When they asked me if I wanted to check, I said no as I had no reason to believe they were lying to me. I wish I had checked it! After a year and a half someone wanted to buy my dress a few weeks ago, as I took it out of the box I realised all the crystal buttons were damaged, they were chipped, all the mud stains were still on my dress and there were yellow marks all over my dress which originally were not there and it seemed like water that had travelled up my dress when they had tried to wash the train. This probably explains why they kept my dress for 4 months before saying that it was ready for collection! I contacted them and after several emails and weeks of chasing them for an answer they said they take no responsibility. My dress second hand is worth £800 and they are not willing to compensate. I will be taking this further to small claims court in Wales but I wanted to make sure you get a true feedback about their business before you decide to ruin your clothes and to be called a liar at the end. I'll keep you posted about the results. If you want to see photos of the dress, take a look at my google review.
