It is particularly true of the Wellfield Road site. A lot of businesses try and fail to stick on this stretch of road, and with two other laundrettes with dry cleaning services attached, that are within easy walking distance of this outlet, with one only a quick stroll around the corner, the competition is more that a little fierce! But Freye Dry Cleaners have got themselves covered. Not only have they got an enviable reputation to trade on, but they have also got three branches in three very different areas. Each can offer the other fianacial back-up if required. It also means that they can afford to engage in a bit of a price war with the competition. It's possible to get four items or clothes dry cleaned for £14.00 at Derek Freye Dry Cleaning and any duvet, regardless of size, can be cleaned for £12.00.

I took a few dresses and a jacket to Freye, and was pleasantly surprised when the total cost was priced much less than any Cardiff competitor (I was working in Barry at the time and couldn't get to a city cleaners before it closed). The ladies who work here are friendly and knowledgeable, not to mention willing to speed up the collection process by a day or two in case you need your clothing for an important occasion. It's also worth noting that Freye offer an ironing and same-day tailoring and repair service. My only criticism is that they only accept cash payments (they may have added a card maching service since), so make sure you hit up the cash machine before picking up your garments.

As a previous Canton dweller, David Barnes was my friendly neighbourhood dry cleaners, one that provided exceptional results, every time. The staff here are friendly, always managing to keep a smile after a batty Yank comes in and, yet again, forgets her numbered ticket. Oops. I never really gave much importance to a dry cleaning facility and considered them all pretty much the same. That is, until said facility loses your favourite item of clothing, never to be seen again. Thankfully I never had to experience that at David Barnes, much to my relief. Here's hoping they open a Bay branch so my duvets, coats and suits can get the delicate cleaning care they require.

When I turned up to pick up the dress (after 4 months as they kept delaying it!) they said the wine stain that they had warned me about has been removed and said the dress is nicely packed between paper wraps in a box. When they asked me if I wanted to check, I said no as I had no reason to believe they were lying to me. I wish I had checked it! After a year and a half someone wanted to buy my dress a few weeks ago, as I took it out of the box I realised all the crystal buttons were damaged, they were chipped, all the mud stains were still on my dress and there were yellow marks all over my dress which originally were not there and it seemed like water that had travelled up my dress when they had tried to wash the train. This probably explains why they kept my dress for 4 months before saying that it was ready for collection! I contacted them and after several emails and weeks of chasing them for an answer they said they take no responsibility. My dress second hand is worth £800 and they are not willing to compensate. I will be taking this further to small claims court in Wales but I wanted to make sure you get a true feedback about their business before you decide to ruin your clothes and to be called a liar at the end. But for all you bounty hunters out there... think twice before you go and nab one. The only thing that has really threatened the business in a significant way in recent times is that a new shop has opened up offering ironing services a few doors down. But even this isn't presenting any kind of threat to the livelihood of the business. Fabricare also offer service washes and ironing services. They accept dry cleaning jobs, but send the dry clean items off to be serviced elsewhere, and so you may have to wait slightly longer for this service than at other outlets that have dry cleaning facilities in-house. The business is owned by Mrs Crean,who owns another outlet on City Road, and so has a manager to run this shop on her behalf. It's a friendly little laundrette, with a good number of machines.

Dreadful customer service - rude staff! STAY AWAY…read more This company damaged the mattress cover I took to them. They also said they washed it while they didn't and it came back with more stains. Staff are rude, uneducated and very badly mannered, including 'the boss'. STAY AWAY from this place if you care about your clothing!! This is because the lady who works there needs to go to the loo, or buy a coffee, or chat to someone she's just seen passing. Being the lady in the dry cleaning shop probably isn't the most stimulating of jobs and you do have to smell dry cleaning and those strange plastic wrappers all the time. So who can blame her for popping out. However she will be back shortly so twiddle your thumbs or buy a coffee or chat to someone passing. A little confusingly they are sometimes also called Cathedral Cleaners and that's because they are part of a group that does have a branch near the Cathedral. They also arrange carpet cleaning and shoe repair.
