They accept dry cleaning jobs, but send the dry clean items off to be serviced elsewhere, and so you may have to wait slightly longer for this service than at other outlets that have dry cleaning facilities in-house. The business is owned by Mrs Crean,who owns another outlet on City Road, and so has a manager to run this shop on her behalf. It's a friendly little laundrette, with a good number of machines.

I went again a few months ago but they couldn't find it. I have just had a phone call from the manager, who very politely informed me that it's lost. It would appear that they had a clear out after the pandemic... most alarmingly, they don't have insurance. I would advise people not to take anything valuable here.

But Freye Dry Cleaners have got themselves covered. Not only have they got an enviable reputation to trade on, but they have also got the other branches to back them up financially whilst they engage of a bit of a price war with the others. It's possible to get four items dry cleaned for £14.00 at the moment, and any duvet, regardless of size, can be cleaned for £12.00. Whilst I respect Freye Dry Cleaners, if anybody is going to professionally clean my duvet it's going to be the Penylan Laundrette I'm afraid... not because I know them to be better at cleaning duvets, but because the chap that owns this laundrette is a hoot!

I took a few dresses and a jacket to Freye, and was pleasantly surprised when the total cost was priced much less than any Cardiff competitor (I was working in Barry at the time and couldn't get to a city cleaners before it closed). The ladies who work here are friendly and knowledgeable, not to mention willing to speed up the collection process by a day or two in case you need your clothing for an important occasion. It's also worth noting that Freye offer an ironing and same-day tailoring and repair service. My only criticism is that they only accept cash payments (they may have added a card maching service since), so make sure you hit up the cash machine before picking up your garments.

So when I brought one of my favourite dresses to Steamer's (as it's the only dry cleaners in Cardiff Bay), I didn't take too kindly to the fact that it wasn't ready on the day I was told. Fine. So I returned the following day, as requested. It still wasn't ready. The gentleman behind the desk told me that the clothes are actually cleaned at their off-site facility on City Road, where he called to check the status. At first they couldn't find it, and the thought of losing one of my all-time favourite items really didn't make me happy. But after nearly half an hour of back and forth phone chasing, they of course located it, but alas, it wouldn't be ready until after I needed it (which was the forthcoming weekend when I was going on holiday). I've gotta say I won't be coming back here, as the whole experience was needlessly unpleasant. It's worth it for me to drive to the Bay Morrison's or make the trek to Cathays or Roath where the customer service hopefully won't draw out the less agreeable aspects of my personality.

As a kid I used to look like a art project as a paint mixer at Homebase. So on a particular drunken night, I managed to spill half my glass of red wine down my brand new suit that was given to me as a present. Waking up with a lovely headache, it was made worse by the offending stain. Cutting a long boring story short, in tears I laid down my suit in front of Steamers and begged them to make the bad thing go away. They rid that badboy and my problems in one afternoon and called me up the next day to say it was ok to pick it up. The persona who served me was great and had a good sense of humour about the situation that made me feel a lot better. All this for a decent price (Anything is cheaper than the price of death) and I came away a relieved man.
