This company is extremely busy. You can tell by their lack of follow through on my inquiry. It actually happened twice; maybe a year or so apart. I have sentimental furniture from my grandparents that needed new upholstery work. This was going to be a gift to my elderly father. I had a daybed recovered at Denver Upholstery. This was the first thing I have ever reupholstered so I was not sure how the process worked. I sent photos, received an estimate and then scheduled a time to look at materials. There was a bit of a wait to have the items done but it was really worth it. Wow...I was literally stoped at the front entrance by an associate outside the office, and told that the designer was not available to discuss my upholstery project. I, like Meredith M., had a very similar experience with Steve @ Denver Upholstery and the experience made me a CUSTOMER FOR LIFE. The service I received this week from Steve has prompted me to tell EVERYONE I know who has furniture to see him. Here's why. . . I found this Eames lounger w/ ottoman at a consignment store and couldn't pass it up. The only flaw; it was missing a few buttons and needed a good cleaning. I snapped it up and promptly phoned Mod Livin' to find out who they would recommend to work on the chair. They recommended "this guy down the street from us. . .Denver Upholstery." A few weeks later, I call and talk to Steve, proprietor, about the chair repair job. He said to bring it in and he would take a look at it. Later that week, I drove out to see him. I arrived around 4pm just in time for an assessment before they close at 4:30. I NEVER expected he would be performing the work same day. I fully anticipated leaving the chair and ottoman with him, only to return a few weeks later to pick it up. So far, the chair was already worth any additional investment I was about to make on it. Steve pulls the ottoman out of my car and begins to take it apart. I think. . . ok, so he's just going to examine the piece and tell me how much it is going to cost, then tell me how long it will take for the work. Instead, I watch as he carefully reaches down to his fabrics/textiles and pulls out a matching color to make replacement buttons. I then watch him walk over to a large, industrial button-maker. He cranks out 4 buttons. . . Now, I'm really impressed. He works quickly and efficiently, and pulls out the base of the chair to replace its buttons. In less than 25 minutes, everything is back together and 4 new buttons are on the chair and ottoman. I reach for my wallet, but Steve just hands me a business card and says, "don't worry about paying me, just tell all of your friends." The experience came as a total surprise. He made my entire week because I didn't have to drive all the way back to the shop from Boulder to pick up my chair. I had no idea people like Steve still existed. Steve is an honest, hard-working business owner who knows the value of the customer. He specializes in mid-century modern, contemporary furniture upholstery and re-design. I took my chair to multiple upholsterers and had bed experiences. I started to believe this is an industry of people who are total snobs and costly. SO not the case with Denver Upholstery. I brought a chair to them that required attaching a cushion to the chair. I went to someone before DU and they said "I've never done this before so I'm going to charge you $150 since it might take a day or two. Serious? The guys at DU took care of it in a matter of 30 minutes and boom, I was out the door. Aside from how kind they are, the space they work in is super cool, big and clean. Everyone was friendly. DUD was highly recommended by a dear friend in my old Park Hill neighborhood. I went to the shop with a very specific plan in mind. What I met with was a very slow response and told to "just" send pictures in of the pictures of the pieces that I wanted done, and DUD would price it out for me. He was too busy to talk suggested I e-mail him which I did twice and got not even the common courtesy of a response. I found many other great upholstery companies that have great customer service. Brought in an office chair where the bottom of the seat cushion was starting to fall apart. Didn't think it would be a big task to accomplish. Probably not even an hour of work. The first think they told me, when they saw it, was that they couldn't do it because it was mass manufactured. What chair isn't mass manufactured?
