This school is a great option for students who run the entire spectrum of having difficulty in the traditional high school setting, or who need more of a challenge. My daughter was in GT throughout elementary and middle school, and Middle was a real eye-opener that she would need more freedom to set her own pace and curriculum level in HS or she might flounder and feel constrained by traditional situation (= overcrowded classrooms and teachers who don't have the time or resources to teach to a whole range of behavioral issues and learning levels.). DOHS's system allows my daughter to study at an accelerated pace. In fact, she's taking college classes at the same time (IN class at CCD) and will graduate with an Associates degree at the same time as she gets her HS diploma. NOTE: "Online"doesn't usually mean that students can just log into the computer occasionally and expect to pass. Most students still have to go to the school one-to-three days a week for Labs, connecting with the teachers and other students for their subjects. They also have most of the social and extra-curricular activities like National Honors Society, Prom, clubs, etc. Teachers work on-site, too - they are very responsive and in my experience are all highly qualified. I teach computer science / web development within the career and technical pathway at Denver Online High School. I am continually amazed at how many different opportunities our students have to take advantage of. Just this semester we administered mentor programs with Amazon - our students were able to work with professionals in the field and pick their brains. We have certification pathways, concurrent enrollment courses, and career and technical training in a variety of careers, as well as professional job shadowing and field trips. If there is interest and motivation we can get your student to wherever makes sense for them! If you have an interest in creative fields, why not learn from an exhibiting artist? If they want to learn coding, who better to learn from than a software engineer of 13 years? Our career and technical pathways are not only of the highest quality, they are taught by teachers with relevant industry experience. All of the teachers are top notch and great role models. The school is proficient in delivering course content and are experienced in person teachers. Because our in person class sizes are very low we can customize work and provide one on one sessions and Zooms. We also get a lot of really bright kids so teaching technical subjects is great! Denver Online High School is a highly academic school balanced with teacher, administration and mental health support. I have been going to Denver Online Highschool for about 3 years now and will be completing my high school education with them. They also provided amazing resources for after high school planning. These include concurrent-enrollment, Trade school, and scholarships. Students have the choice to work from home or attend on campus where you can find one on one help from the amazing teachers. They are well staffed and all staff members are compassionate, caring, supportive and know how and when to challenge you. They also have a variety of after-school clubs and do events such as homecoming, prom and field day. I would highly recommend Denver Online for any high school student who feels the traditional high school setting does not offer them what they need. They have a flexible schedule and help you get back on track. They allow room for students to expand on their hobbies, travels, and passions. read more

DOHS staff truly work from the best of intentions, dedicated to growing students into capable & kind individuals ready to succeed in whatever pathway they choose. We have ballet dancers, hockey players, boxers training for the Olympic trials, students with full-time jobs/internships, & students rocking college classes through our Concurrent Enrollment Program (tuition-free college courses; students earn both H.S. credit and college credit for each course). We even had the first student in DPS to graduate with his Bachelor's Degree in the same month he graduated from H.S. via Concurrent Enrollment. The diversity is amazing, as we also have previous drop-outs, students struggling with health or social/emotional obstacles, & teen parents. In all cases, their stories are incredible and their tenacity to finish school around their unique lives is inspiring. Denver Online is the best when it comes to an alternative high school setting! Great staff that provides outstanding support and encouragement. Yes, they require a lot class work and this is where self-motivation and independence from students come in. Students must learn time management and take accountability for themselves. This is not your typical online K-12 school that has hundreds of students and staff. Staff get to know each student personally and recognize each one's uniqueness and value. They do encourage their students to think outside of just getting a high school diploma and to look at college and trade school options. My child struggled in a traditional high school where he just got lost in the number of students, but once he switched to Denver Online halfway through his Sophomore year, he made a complete turnaround and thrived! This is a great high school that allows for flexibility if your child needs it do to sports, the arts or other reasons. My child just graduated with great grades and ready for the future. The graduation was incredibly touching hearing about how diverse the graduates were and how many had to overcome obstacles to graduate. There was genuine caring between the students and faculty. The school has a physical building with teachers, counselors and administrators. You can Skype into classes, do them on your own time and schedule, and/or come into the school so it helps many with their jobs or activities. The school has activities and clubs, so it isn't like most online schools. This was the best decision we made. We highly recommend this school to anyone that hasn't liked the typical school experience or who needs flexibility! read more

What a great place to teach and learn! Students can work at their own pace, take advantage of one to one tutoring via Zoom, (or in person when the state isn't isolating) as well as do school work 24 hours a day to fit their schedule. The staff is student centered and flexible, offering multiple ways to succeed and earn credit that doesn't skimp on content knowledge. Motivated students can take college courses. Students with IEPs can get one to one attention they need. I enjoy faculty meetings for the first time in my 32 year career - we discuss and post celebrations of student successes and staff going above and beyond expectations. read more

I am biased because I am a founding staff member at this school having worked here since 2003 but it is the most open, friendly, and welcoming school I have come across. The staff and students are flexible, caring, and fun. One thing people might not realize is that we develop deeper and better relationships with students than exist in a traditional high school. I highly recommend this school for any student who is burned out at their current school, but willing to put in the effort and not give up. This school saved my life. I have pretty big dreams that would require a lot of school, but at a traditional school I was ready to give up and quit all of that. But at DOHS I received the support I needed to continue. The teachers are amazing and they really make an effort to connect with their students, the entire staff is inviting and they make it really easy to feel safe and comfortable in the school. My son attended this school for all 4 years of high school. It was a fabulous fit for him. It was the perfect balance for my son to commit to his education and his passion for music. The teachers are amazingly helpful and caring. The do more attitude is prevalent everywhere from grades to volunteering to field trips.
