At first it seemed like a really good learning environment (for a DPS school) but as the year progressed I came to find that it in fact was not. Their test scores are actually one of the lowest in all of DPS. After observing and speaking to my student I found out why. There seems to be a real black and white teaching method here, as in with most public schools. The kids are taught just enough to pass state testing requirements (which they haven't) to keep the school open. Free and independent thinking is not encouraged. My interactions with the administration and teachers has been unproductive. They don't seem to understand how to actually reach, engage and inspire. Although it will probably break me financially, my child will no longer be attending public school. Not every child is the same and not every child learns the same. Public schools are struggling but this particular school has been our worst experience since kindergarten. Do better Strive Prep Sunnyside. read more
