DAM has so much fun and inspiring art to see! We went on a free day, not too crazy, lots of room to explore. Staff were very helpful and engaging, wanting to be there. Family-friendly. Afterwards, we ate a delightful midday lunch at Levin, around the corner from the DAM.

Denver Art Museum is huge and one of America's largest museums (it's three separate buildings - 1, 4, 7 stories respectively), so I'm glad I expeditiously trekked my way thru everything from morning by end of day, including the special exhibition - Pissarro's Impressionism. VALUE This experience is definitely worth the money if you are a fan of art - every exhibit is carefully curated. I personally Loved the indigenous art, western American art, and art pieces that moved with the viewer. SERVICE Staff were welcoming and helpful guides throughout my experience - they love the space as much as I do. SELECTION Artwork includes: Western American Art, Rooftop Terrace, European Art Before 1800, Textile Art and Fashion, Photography, Art of Asia, Latin American Art, Arts of the Ancient Americas, Indigenous Arts of North America, Northwest Coast and Alaska Native Art, Architecture and Design, Design Studio, Family Central, Bridge to Hamilton Building, Creative Hub, Wonderscape, Volunteer Center, Conservation, Sensory Garden SOUVENIRS Lots of souvenirs are available via gift shop by admissions and also inside the special exhibition for Pissarro's Impressionism FOOD There are food options within the Martin Building's first floor (The Ponti, Café Gio) with lovely menus but I had already made reservations elsewhere.

Wow!!! I had no idea how big this museum was. It involves 3 buildings. 2 buildings are connected with a walkway over the road. The Martin building is 7 stories. It connects to the Hamilton building across the street. And then you can walk to the Kirkland a couple blocks away. There is a LOT of walking. If you like art this could be an all day event for you. We spent 3 hours and we skipped things. The layout is amazing and so much to see. It's organized by region so you could just focus on the areas you want to see. There were workers everywhere so you could always ask questions or get assistance if you need to. The selection of art work was amazing!!! For the price you really got a nice value and could easily make a day visit of it.

Love how fully realized the design of the Martin building is. Making downtown Denver itself part of the art experience.

The Denver Art Museum is definitely worth adding to your itinerary when you're in town. We were mainly interested in the legendary architecture, especially of the Martin building. Both the Martin and Hamilton did not disappoint on that front. Fabulous angles, views, and points of view at every turn. It's a world class space. I wasn't quite ready for this: The range of art they have is truly impressive. Having spent a LOT of time in some of the most prominent art museums in the US, I honestly wasn't expecting to be impressed. It's true they don't have a lot of traditional European masters here. They have one or two by the artists most people know and pay attention to: Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Renoir, etc. But that is really not where this museum shines. What they do so incredibly well here is highlight art coming from populations who are historically under-represented in mainstream art museums. The African exhibit and the Oceania exhibit, for example, not only had an impressive collection of art and historically significant pieces, but the curation and the design of the exhibits were inspired. I thought we might kill 2 hours there, but five hours later, we realized we'll need to come back to see more of it with fresh eyes. Lovely staff, from security to docents, to salespeople at the store. The store in the Hamilton building is one of the best museum stores I've ever been to. We planned to buy nothing and ended up buying a lot. Looking forward to our next visit!

This museum is a great way to spend your time in Denver. We were there for over 3 hours and barely scratched the surface. The museum consists of multiple buildings. We used the app to see where we were and what was on each floor. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were adequately dispersed throughout the museum to provide support as needed. The galleries were very well curated and covered many different cultures, types of art, and time periods. There were many different things to see but it didn't feel crowded. I was very impressed with this museum and will be back!

    Sanea F.

I didn't expect the museum to be big and 3 different buildings you could go to. The biggest building had 7 floors and each floor has a specific culture. The connected building to that had 4 floors. Then the 3rd is not connected and a small walk away. If you enjoy art and different cultures, then this is a must

Great museum in the heart of Denver. The museum is spread over 3 buildings. We started at the Martin with a quick lunch at Cafe Gio and moved up the floors taking the bridge over to the Hamilton. The art is beautifully curated and displayed with care. Some of the rooms are vibrant and some are calming. All really lovely. The museum store is a treat and the cafe is good for a quick bite. Fountain Coke products. Hallelujah. We parked at an adjacent public lot for $16. I was headed to the airport but we got a lot done in less than 2 hours. Totally worth the stop and would return and take my time!

My wife and I came here yesterday after one of our Uber drivers explaining it was a must visit during our stay. I'm very thankfully of that suggestion and would have preferred having more time here but we made it here after another experience that leaned more towards lackluster. Our time was a little limited due to the time they would be closing, but we did manage to see a large portion of the art. The pure size of the museum (includes two buildings - connected by an inside bridge) is something to see. Due to the size they have a large variety of art styles on display with the larger building even breaking up each floor by region of the art. Because of that, you see such a huge variety of art, and any and everyone should find some pieces to enjoy! Give yourself adequate time so you can explore and admire all the art you wish. If given enough time and you can see all the art you definitely get your worth on the price of entry! They also appear to have rotations or some special exhibits and some were currently closed being worked on. The major special one currently was Korean Moon jars that were beautiful to see. Worth the price and time to visit! Have not been to many art museums but this one was special!

There's a character that I love called Labubu. The moment I saw it, I thought it was inspired by the monsters in Where the Wild Things Are (it's not). My bf surprised me for a date with tickets and it was so much fun. The exhibit was very well done and laid out so you can explore all of Maurice Sendak's work from childhood to his first story to the classics like Where the Wild Things Are and Little Bear. It's amazing to see his early works and observe the details on each. I do appreciate with this exhibit that they're all encased so you can actually get pretty close (with respect of course) and look at the details or read the small details and captions. Such a nice done exhibit. Definitely makes me want to visit the art museum again for future exhibits. I'll be on the lookout now. The museum is separated into two sections. There's a bridge that takes you to another building with more floors and art. The organization is a bit confusing if you don't preview the map beforehand. We walked across the bridge but saw that it was mainly a cafe and for children to make art so we didn't think much of it. Turns out, we missed some art over there. By then, we were tired and our parking was coming to an end.

Posted some of our favs!! We spent over 4 hours and we didnt see everything. I would recommend taking a break in between the buildings :)

What an amazing and extensive art museum! I would say this museum is on the level of some of the best art museums around the country. I went when they were exhibiting the Korean Moon Jars and it was an amazing experience seeing those in person. The museum also uses some breathtaking architecture. Love the mix of modern and classical. You can say the building is a work of art itself. Definitely pay this place a visit if you are in Downtown Denver :)

The family and I spent the weekend downtown and it was years since exploring the museum so it was time we went again. Kids are free and adult residences of Colorado were $25 to get in. The price covers 3 different buildings and we didn't even make it all the way thru two in the 3.5 hours we visited! There's so much to see, something for everyone. I loved the yarn exhibit too. All the staff we came across were very helpful and knowledgeable!

All of the different rooms and floors of this museum are laid out beautifully. The architecture is inspiring, and besides a special exhibition, it doesn't feel cramped or hectic. Congrats to the curators! I did not enjoy the Maurice Sendak special exhibition because it was so cramped. I couldn't even stay in there. Otherwise, my visit was lovely. I even enjoyed the food in the café!

Quality can be highly variable, but that's always in the eye of the beholder. The focus is on contemporary art, as the name says, and much of this is intended to be highly provocative. I'm not a fan of art that requires a lengthy, written explanation to make sense and the curators here are often fond of that stuff, but I've also seen many beautiful, moving, thought-provoking, and inspiring exhibits. This is a bite-size facility with three floors of galleries. There is an elegant cafe on the top floor with a full bar and a nice selection of snacks, sandwiches, wine, beer, soft drinks, espresso drinks, and cocktails. The views from the roof deck outside the cafe are excellent. Street parking is metered and limited in this area; however, the museum has a deal with the parking garage across the street (1900 16th Street). The museum operates a second facility at the Holiday Theater in Lower Highlands in addition to the main Fries building. The Fries building is an excellent space for the display of contemporary art and was designed by starchitect David Adjaye. The Holiday Theater, built in 1914, then the Egyptian Theater (1926-1953), has been restored by the MCA as a 400-seat venue and performance hub for arts programming. Any Denver resident can create a list of favorites, then participate in a rotating lottery where these works are loaned out for ten month periods. The MCA has something for almost everyone and is certainly a major Denver treasure worth checking out.
