Conveniently located in the heart of Little Falls (not far from the Willowbrook Mall), this modern facility features the latest tech and highly trained professionals to use it. The waiting room is spacious with plenty to entertain (although the waits are never long anyway) and the operatory rooms, sterile and comfy. Ample parking is available in the rear, but there is also a bus stop nearby if public transportation is more your thing. Even better than the office is the people that work for this practice. The entire staff here is warm and welcoming, from the administrators at the front desk to the assistants. Dr. Shahmehdi, who owns the practice, took the time to meet with me (even though I am not his direct patient) during one of my appointments. Dr. Sperling, the pediatric dentist, even struck up a conversation with me after one of my appointments; everyone is so friendly! Dr. Paparella, who has been my attending dentist, has been nothing short of brilliant. Before beginning any procedure--no matter how big or small--she briefly explains what she is going to be doing and why. I feel like I've learned so much about dental care and am much more at ease during procedures. She also has excellent bedside manners, always cognizant of any issues her patients have and does everything in her power to alleviate any concerns. Most importantly, she always takes her time and works meticulously. It is very clear that she takes pride in her work and cares about her patients. The assistants are just as competent and caring. Special shoutout to Nicolle, who assisted Dr. Paparella on my last visit. She was able to use the suction hose without triggering my annoyingly persistent gag reflex. They were both patient throughout my visit, even as I subconsciously started to close my mouth...repeatedly. Nicolle even dabbed my forehead with a paper towel when a drop of water splashed. These little things and attention to detail demonstrate the staff really does care about their patients. The main issue is that the dentist does the cleanings (not a hygienist) and every time it was extremely rough to the point of me leaving with a mouth full of blood. I even told her it was hurting while she was cleaning but she just continued on anyway. It was so bad the last time that my teeth were extremely sensitive for a couple of weeks after. I've always had good experiences with hygienists and never was in pain or bleeding from those. On a positive note, the assistant Jess is very nice.

But Dr. G's incredible patience and thoughtfulness, and the respectful manner in which he explains everything - treating you as a partner rather than simply a patient - made me choose him over two other doctors I had been considering. And I am so happy I did! Today, after many months or our collaboration I am in a very different place: medically, aesthetically, and emotionally. What's also very important to me is that Dr. Gerskowitz looks at the patient and his/her health in a integral way, which so rare at our time of infinite specialization. He is a real master. His approach is careful and intelligent, and what they call "bedside manner" is superb: once you are in his office, you immediately feel at ease. The young lady dentist assigned to me was very inexperienced. She extracted the molar by chipping and hacking away where she eventually removed the molar in pieces. I ended swallowing bits of the molar. In that visit, since I had insurance , this place did anything and everything to max out as much as they could from my insurance. I was told that 25% of the bill had to be paid upfront, which was $588. That night I bled quite a bit and had tremendous discomfort. The next day my face was swollen and I had a slight fever and realized something wasn't right. I When to another Dentist to get to the bottom of why I was bleeding so much and had this puffiness and why I had all this discomfort. Was told that the reason I bled so much was because the stitching done at this Avant garde place was because it was done on one side of the gum and that the stitching should've have been done in a cross road method as opposed to one side of the gum and the grafting to cover the hole in the gum area was not there. Was also told that I also had an infection as well and was given a prescription. I ended Spending an additional $750 to correct this mess done at Avant garde. To add insult to injury, no pun intended, Avant garde wanted another$1,590. I left skid marks at Avant garde. As mentioned, it was a horrible experience. Stay away...
