This review is long overdue - I became Dr. Gerskowitz's patient almost a year and a half ago. But now I am able to reflect on entire year-long-dental project. The task was enormous - at least to me it certainly had sounded overwhelming. But Dr. G's incredible patience and thoughtfulness, and the respectful manner in which he explains everything - treating you as a partner rather than simply a patient - made me choose him over two other doctors I had been considering. And I am so happy I did! Today, after many months or our collaboration I am in a very different place: medically, aesthetically, and emotionally. What's also very important to me is that Dr. Gerskowitz looks at the patient and his/her health in a integral way, which so rare at our time of infinite specialization. He is a real master. His approach is careful and intelligent, and what they call "bedside manner" is superb: once you are in his office, you immediately feel at ease. Dr. Gerskowitz is simply the best dentist I've seen in my life and one of the very best doctors of any specialization I've encountered. I just wish I found him earlier. The staff is equally great - I use this office now for my general dental maintenance and checkups. Everyone is knowledgeable and friendly. I normally go to the River Edge office, but have been to the Wayne location, too. Dr. G.'s practice is the place I recommend to my friends and family - that says it all. Thank you, Alexander, Andrey, Theresa, and everyone at AvantGarde! read more

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had going to Avant agarde Dental. I have dental insurance and decided to go to this place. I was there for a tooth extraction. The young lady dentist assigned to me was very inexperienced. She extracted the molar by chipping and hacking away where she eventually removed the molar in pieces. I ended swallowing bits of the molar. In that visit, since I had insurance , this place did anything and everything to max out as much as they could from my insurance. I was told that 25% of the bill had to be paid upfront, which was $588. That night I bled quite a bit and had tremendous discomfort. The next day my face was swollen and I had a slight fever and realized something wasn't right. I When to another Dentist to get to the bottom of why I was bleeding so much and had this puffiness and why I had all this discomfort. Was told that the reason I bled so much was because the stitching done at this Avant garde place was because it was done on one side of the gum and that the stitching should've have been done in a cross road method as opposed to one side of the gum and the grafting to cover the hole in the gum area was not there. Was also told that I also had an infection as well and was given a prescription. I ended Spending an additional $750 to correct this mess done at Avant garde. To add insult to injury, no pun intended, Avant garde wanted another$1,590. I left skid marks at Avant garde. As mentioned, it was a horrible experience. Stay away... read more

Pushy dental insurance vampires. They will do a "full set of rays" where they will find "quite a few cavities" , most of them "needing crowns" . Plus a bunch of other things like "scans", and you will walk out with a thousand of dollars "treatment plan" that will exhaust your benefits plus bills for hundreds of dollars. Most dentists run this scam these days but I found this practice to be one of the most egregious. And that rude young doctor! No offense but somebody out of dentistry school for hardly two years needs to tone down the attitude. read more

Obsessed with this place! First, my father is a dentist back home in the Midwest so I can say my review stands with my constant critiquing. ;) (1) had a loose crown Wednesday night. Called Thursday 8am got a call back 8:15am - remember they technically open at 10am so this was already a good start- and told me to come @ 9am. I got it fixed within the hour. Doc knew exactly what to do. It felt so much better. (2) while I was there I made an appt for a standard cleaning and they accommodated me to come in that same day latercafter lunch. Super nice Bc I had the day off. Cleaning went well and they found some buildup so told me I needed an intense deep clean that's a full 2 hours and they're pretty booked. I begged to get it done before I start my new job Monday so they said "ok I guess we can squeeze you in Friday at 1pm". (3) i go in for the deep clean Friday at 1pm. Never felt more fresh. Super nice hygienist named Alejandra. Sweetest person and very attentive. (4) Doc said If I wanted I could have my white spots from braces that I had 15 years ago removed. He did that after my deep clean. Check the before and after. They even somehow managed to bill 80 percent of it to my insurance (receptionist is also 5 Star). It doesn't get better. This place is amazing. Thoroughly impressed. read more

Alexander Gerskowitz - General Dentistry Near Me - Wayne, New Jersey

While the office has advanced dental equipment and well trained dentists, their billing is absolutely un-acceptable. While I have dental insurance and they are "in-network", their front-desk is trying to charge for the services "in cash" while those are 100% covered by the plan. They had very knowledgeable billing before, it is changed now - the person who handle this is absolutely un-professional and even does not try to check your insurance coverage- they just simply lie to you that it is not covered. They also try very hard to sell you "blinker fluid" on every occasion during the visit- it is like visiting dealership in not a good way. read more

This was by far the worst experience Iv ever had! They sold 1suringe of juvederm on Groupon of $350(which is a good deal, normally I pay &400) they called me to in come early I sat 2hrs, after I waited 1 1/2hr they told my their syringe is only .4ml not a full one like they advertised. they put numb cream on me n 45min later I had ask for dr, by then numb cream wore off, they were beyond unprofessional and refused to fix lips w out xtra charge. Iv neverhad a Dr go back n forth Btwn me n 3 other customers. My lips r VERY uneven& they refuse to fix them for free. Go to med spa in east Rutherford, Groupon price $400 & the dr is great! I'd never send my worst enemy there read more

Friendly staff, hygienist and doctors. They really good care of you. I have a son with autism and he sits still for them even for root canals. They are very gentle, attentive and has amazing bedside manners. I've been going here for almost 5 years and I can't say enough possible things about each visit. read more

Doctor is very knowledgeable and he is very passionate about what he does. I was very impressed. I was visiting from out of state few months ago, and went just for cleaning. The hygienist dis a great job. Now I schedule my dental appointments when I'm in NJ ( and they are super accommodating about timing) instead of going to my regular dentist in my home state. Definitely recommend! read more

Replaced an old crown in no time at all. Used gas first, to get me calmed before getting my shots.!! Dr. Gerkowitz is the best!!

Went to this location about 2 years ago, after a crown that was made by another doctor fell off. They informed me the reason it fell off was because the quality was extremely poor. Less than 2 years later, the crown fell off again. They told me the insurance would not pay for it since the crown should last at least 5 years.. yet, they presented me with a bill for $1800.00 to replace it. My question is.. if the crown should last at least 5 years, shouldn't that be a "warranty" period? They also told me the reason it fell off its because I snore... hahahahahaha Thats the first. Stay away. read more

The absolute worst dental experience I have ever had. I literally needed to take a file to my teeth to remove some of the composite that was left after cavities had been filled. There was also a grittiness in my mouth for days if not weeks due to something I really don't know what she used in her process. Ok, Now it begins. First of all I went to this practice based on all of the great reviews which I am now beginning to think are planted after the experience I had. I went to this office for a cleaning and a consultation. Imagine my surprise when I was told I had 6 cavities and needed a couple of crowns one on a tooth with no cavities at all. At any rate I'm a trusting person so I didn't doubt the Dentist anythings possible right ? So she proceeded to do the fillings on the first couple of cavities and that was ok then I came back to finish the other cavities and a bonded surface. I left the office feeling gritty in my mouth but was assured that it would pass. Later on that evening as I was running my tongue over my teeth I felt sharp rough surfaces on the one cavity so much so that I grabbed an emory board and tried to remove some of the roughness that was left on my tooth. As for the bonding on my bottom two front teeth I don't know what to say. I've had bonding done to these teeth a couple of times through the years and they have always looked better after the procedure. Not this time. What should have been a simple procedure was not and the teeth are uneven, I will have to go to another dentist to get the work fixed. Now to the best part .... The Billing I was told that my insurance would only cover 750.00 of the work which I was ok with. I was given the cost of the work and asked to pay in full and that I would receive the reimbursement from my insurer. I paid in full the price that I was asked to pay and I waited patiently for my 750.00 reimbursement. I didn't make a fuss about the shoddy work because it's just not my nature I decided I'd go back to my old dentist and just consider it a lesson learned. Then today happened. After calling Aetna and finding out that they paid the office with my reimbursement money as well. I called to find out how and when I could get the 750.00 and was told ( get this ) My insurance company says that my procedure should have cost more that what they charged me and they want me to pay another 900.00 on top of the almost 1800,.00 I've already spent on the crappy work they did. So they want me to pay almost 2700 dollars on one bonded tooth and 4 or 5 filled cavities ......done poorly I might add Not to mention they gave me a price and now want to change it after the fact So... what kind of a fool do they think I am read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Gerskowitz for the past 2 years and from day one I have always received the best patient care! From his front desk assistants, Emily and Natalia, to his dental assistants and dental hygienist, I always know I'll be taken care of. A couple of months back I complained about my jaw clicking and Dr. Gerskowitz created a frontal mouth guard for me. I was skeptical at first, but after just 2 nights of using it, it has helped me so much! My jaw muscles are relaxed at night since I'm not grinding, which has helped with the teeth pain I was experiencing due to grinding AND I have all this energy during the day because I'm actually sleeping throughout the night. I'm so grateful for this office! Seriously recommend them to anyone! read more

I was originally referred to Dr. Alexander Gerskowitz by a coworker about 2-3 yrs ago for a long overdue checkup/cleaning. When I made my first appointment, I wasn't ecstatic about the 30 minute trip from home but I was very pleased with the friendly staff and very professional and informational services provided by Dr. Alexander Gerskowitz. I've been back maybe 7-8 times already for cleanings and fillings and the travel is worth it every time. They have many advanced technologies to offer advanced techniques like laser teeth cleaning, 3-D printer and computers to make on-the-spot custom porcelain fillings for dental procedure called "onlays" (which I had earlier today), and much more. For the past 2 yrs, he had told me I needed to get my wisdom teeth extracted to avoid getting infections. His assistants told me about specialists that they recommend and I held off on it since I had no intention on going to another dentist/specialist. In the past 3 weeks, he extracted all 4 wisdom teeth and the procedures were done so quickly with no pain at all. I chose to go under anesthesia with laughing gas and dealt with no dizziness and effects on driving. I am very pleased that he was able to take care of this for me. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a dentist to give him a try. read more

The office was very nice and clean inside. All the staff members were so nice and friendly. The doctor was so professional and honest she wouldn't make you get something that you don't need. Caring and Great service. Knowledgeable staff. I knew them from the early days and glad to see good business grow over the years. SK.

I have been going to Avant Garde Dental Arts and seeing Dr. Alexander and his staff for the past 5 years and I have to say they are marvelous. There has been a few occasions where i needed an emergency visit and they were able to accommodate me with no problem. Two things I appreciate the most are the fact that they are so genuinely nice and knowledgeable. Definitely will continue to do business with Dr. Alexander and his staff. read more

I recently came to Avant Garde for a cleaning after a bad experience at another dental office and from the minute I walked in the door I felt very welcomed and comfortable. The establishment is clean and up to date. I really like that they have tvs on the chair which is really nice especially if your nervous at the dentist its a great distraction. The girl that cleaned my teeth (i forgot her name) was so sweet and very gentle. The doctor was very efficient and was also very nice and knowledgeable. I also had a teeth whitening treatment which I loved. Overall the place is clean, professional, great staff, and a super efficient office and I will definitely be going back! read more

Thumbs up! Came to them as one time visit for dental cleaning, since my dentist didn't have any room for appointment, now thinking to switch to them permanently. Great staff and always on time. Thorough cleaning an no cavities. State of the art for dental care

I can't say enough amazing thinks about Dr. Gerskowitz. I am petrified of the dentist. All of his staff knew my anxiety and they calmed me right away. Dr. Gerskowitz continued to check on me throughout the procedure to make sure I was ok. He took me through every step and make sure I was aware of what he was doing. He told me when he was done, that I'd be excited for me next visit! He sure was right! He turned my anxiety around. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. His staff was incredible and the facility was state of the art and SO clean! If you're looking for an amazing dentist in the Wayne area, Avant Garde is the place to go! read more

Great Dentist! I got two cavities filled and he's got this new fangled laser type machine and you feel absolute no pain! No shots to knub ya, no drillin', no nothing! In and out in 20ish minutes... Dr. Gerskowitz was recommended to me by a few coworkers and I'm so glad that I changed dental plans so that I could switch to his office. He is extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and patient. I had previously visited two other dentists in the area who messed up a filling and crown and root canal. Alex was able to redo the crown and I haven't had problems yet. He has the latest technology in his office. He is great with kids (he regularly sees my young son). He even won over my husband who hates going to the dentist. I can't say enough good things about him! read more

Finding a good dentist/dental practice is hard, and I've definitely had some really bad luck around this area, however Avant Garde really is a great practice. Their office staff, dentists, and hygienists are all experts, and always make sure you feel comfortable throughout your visit. This isn't a assembly line operation, you'll be treated quickly, yet not in a manner that is sloppy and rushed. You'll leave feeling clean and refreshed. Do yourself a favor and check them out. read more

I normally don't write reviews, however I have to share the good news about this business. After much research I found this dentist office online. From the moment you walk into the door all of the workers from the receptionist to the hygienist and Doctors are all polite and friendly. The official is very clean and comfortable. They have alot of new and upgraded technology. Before any procedure the Dr. Gang explains the procedures and answers all question. The hygienist Alexandra did a wonder job cleaning my teeth. Overall all the workers are great! I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a new dentist to check them out you will not be disappointed! read more

I had a really bad experience with an oral surgeon who pulled three wisdom teeth 7 months ago. I had many complications afterwards causing me months of nonstop pain. I called Avant Garde in agonizing pain & a few weeks pregnant. They told me to come in immediately. I couldn't believe how wonderful these people were! The front desk women, the dentist asst, Dr. Gerskowitz & Dr. Faber were all so incredibly welcoming & kind. Dr. Faber performed an emergency partial root canal relieving me of pain after months of suffering. I returned today to have the rest of my root canal completed & once again felt like a celebrity from the time I arrived to the time I left. I am a big baby when I go to the dentist, plus I'm 3 months pregnant. He walked me through everything the entire procedure, made sure I was ok, asking if I needed water or if I needed to take breaks in between. Hands down, wonderful experience! These people are so welcoming, kind and professional. I hugged Dr. Faber after he finished my root canal & thanked him for being so wonderful, & thank you Dr. Gerskowitz for checking up on me during the procedure. It's hard to find people who are professional these days & not just looking to get paid. These people were not only professional, but compassionate & kind as well! I look forward to going back next week for my crown. I highly recommend Avant Garde for all your dental needs! :) read more
