This office does seem to have a high turnover of dentists but I have always been extremely happy with the care I have received. My dentists have been very communicative and emphasized a conservative approach. My latest check up was with Dr. Chen and he was very thorough and proficient. I had the best cleaning ever with Sairah (hygienist) and this was after not having been to a dentist in over three years. My gumline even improved after the cleaning. I have had some bad experiences with dentists in the past which can cause a lifetime of problems but I have had really positive experiences with 240 Madison Avenue Citidental. read more

I have always not loved going to the dentist, but City Dental is different. I was referred here, and since my referral I have referred 3 other people to this same office! What I love. The Lobby is modern and chic, so it feels more like a spa or salon then a dentist office. My hygenist is so nice, and it feels like hanging out with a friend who cleans my choppers vs some random person. When I have had cavities filled the dentist has been kind and GENTLE. I used to love this place when Dr Loflin was there. Since he left I decided to go with a different dentist at this business. But after my last two visits, I will not be going there again. I had a filling done by Dr Schachtel. He did it Medieval style, very fast and sloppy. Left the surface very rough. When I touch the tooth with my tongue, It literally feels like the filling is made of cement. That's how rough it is. It's not even shaped to the shape of my tooth. Very very crude job. ALSO, the tooth is now sensitive to cold and HURTS a little when I bite on that side. None of this was the case before the visit. Now I am considering going to a different, more qualified dentist to perhaps redo a simple job that Mr Schachtel should have been able to do, but didn't. I came in for a cavity 2 years ago. The dentist said I "needed" a root canal and a crown. No insurance, and thousands of dollars later, I have a crown. A year later while on vacation, I felt a bump below the tooth with the crown. Come to find out I have an abscess. Come back to Dental 365 on Madison, they do xrays and see that there was a small gap where the crown and the gum met. Now, who's fault would that be? Certainly not mine, right? THEY STILL CHARGED ME FULL PRICE TO FIX IT. THEIR MISTAKE!!! And fixing it meant cleaning it out-not pleasant-and you guessed it, GETTING A NEW CROWN. Today was my first day at Citi Dental Group on Madison Ave between 37th & 38th street in midtown after being referred to this location by 3 of my employees. They all love this place and you can add me to the group of citi dental group fans! The entire staff was very polite and patient from the front desk to my dental assistant and of course my dentist, Dr. Sama Alkalaf. Sama was extremely informative, explained every step of my procedure, was so patient and gave great tips for how to maintain my oral health... she and her assistant helped to calm my nerves and make this a very pleasant experience! I went for a regular check up and deep cleaning. I will definitely be back to see Dr. Sama. Citi Dental Group has very modern technology, hygiene is top notch, TVs to show you X-rays quickly and clearly, and entertainment as you get work done. I also loved the little cleaning kit they give you after your visit and the fact that there is very little waiting involved... as a native New Yorker, I hate waiting! The receptionist asked, "why are you canceling your appointment today because the doctor had an hr and 1/2 carved out for you and we don't know if we can fill the spot last minute." I completely understand that the space could be filled for another patient and it is not my intention to cancel last minute but I also didn't expect to get sick last minute. I hadn't had a teeth cleaning in awhile, which I desperately needed. I looked around online for a decent practice, noticed the stellar reviews for this place, and they were in my dental insurance's network. Yay! I had a great visit, my dentist was Dr. Miller. In general, going to the dentist sucks but she had a wonderful bedside manner. She has a quiet, calming voice and was very straightforward. I was able to see the X-rays of all my teeth on a large screen in front of me while I sitting in the treatment chair (pretty cool). She showed me the spots where I needed to floss better and where I needed to have a filling. She did the teeth cleaning herself, took her time, and answered all my dumb questions. I'd also like to note that the dental assistants I interacted with in the back were very polite and seemed happy. The front office really has it together as well. If I could provide any feedback I would ask for kid-size / small-size X-ray mouth pieces and impression trays. I know this is not a pediatric practice, but one size does not fit all! I have a tiny mouth and both the X-ray holder and the impression trays were a little tough to wedge into my mouth comfortably. My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Loflin since we moved to NYC 10 years ago...and Alma as our hygienist for quite a while as well. First of all, I cannot praise Alma enough...she is amazing...seriously AMAZING. I told her today I could literally fall asleep while she's cleaning my teeth. Very courteous Dentist and Assistant and Receptionist. Answered my questions and all were clear and helpful. Great customer service! All doctors offices should be this way! However as many people struggle financially, we are no exception and yet when we asked about a payment plan the Receptionist was very friendly and positive but he didn't quite listen to us. Our initial fee was double from what he originally quoted. Then when our credit was not approved for the full amount he made no accommodation to lower the price. A discount for a first time visitor would have been a smart move because not only would we have likely returned, we would probably be able to pay in full in the future and also spread the word to friends which might have increased his business but instead he lost the sale on major dental work. I actually was not able to see Dr. Loflin as he was not covered under my insurance, instead I saw Dr.Haldy and she was excellent. Very caring, willing to answer questions, great bedside manner and was understanding about financial issues even though thats really the frotn desks concerns. I took a star off because a couple of times there was miscommunication about how much I should pay for co-pays a few time as well as costs of procedures. I understand that I should know what my insurance covers, but its not like there is a menu of prices for the dental services, so I felt that staff should have communicated a bit more on that aspect. The front desk is friendly, and they have netflix which is cool. :) I had only been to one other dentist office in the city which was pretty scary lol so I will stick with Dr. Haldey at Citi Dental :) read more

I'm terrified of dentists. Strangely, however, I look forward to going to my dental visits at Citi Dental Group. I appreciate their 7:30am time slot so I can stop in for a cleaning before I go to work. Dr. Stephanie Haldy-Kelly is so gentle and thorough while cleaning teeth (there's no unnecessarily aggressive scraping, yay!). They're also very responsive. When my bonded retainer broke last year, I was able to see their orthodontist (Dr. Rohini Mathrani) right away. Friendly staff and clean facility. This is legitimately my first Yelp review, but I'm happy to have it be for Dr. Ahmadi. I've been wanting to get a gingivectomy/gum contouring done to fix my gummy smile for YEARS. I delayed out of fear and went to consultations with several dentists. I even had a consultation with Dr. Ahmadi TWICE to make sure he was the periodontist I wanted to go with because I needed to be certain. I felt he was knowledgeable and I wanted someone experienced to do the procedure. So finally, I agreed to go with him. The day of the procedure, I was so close to just cancelling because I was afraid. I mean this procedure permanently changes your smile and I was worried to take that chance not knowing how it'd turn out! I even got there early to talk through some concerns with Dr. Ahmadi (prepared again to back out if he ended up not giving me reassurance). However he was super patient throughout the process and I decided to just do it. Thank GOD I DID! My results were perfect. He reduced my gums and exposed my real, normal sized teeth. Like I was so shook I didn't even know my teeth were this big under my gums?! Just hiding underneath this whole time. If you are considering doing a procedure to fix your gummy smile, I say go for it and do it here. I'm so so happy with my results and literally my only regret is that I didn't do this sooner. This is a beautiful office with a team of respectable dentists. They have a new technology and the best equipment at their disposal. They are excellent at personal touch. Almost to the point where i thought i was getting special treatment. Turns out they give that special treatment to everyone! I decided i would use the facility to get a tooth crowned. The dentist i was supposed to see had an emergency so they had another dentist see me, fine i guess. She shot me up with so much numbing agent i was numb for two days and my eyes were twitching. She went over my options with me after drilling and temporarily filling my tooth. Either crown or get a root canal and crown. I decided to go the more permanent route of doing both. I didn't know at the time that the prices were triple than i ever paid in my life. I would love to come here for my dental work but I just cannot afford it. The reason for 3 stars instead of 4 was because i was very disappointed during the last exchange i had with an employee there who was texting me. She was confirming my appointment and shot out a price through the text and asked if i agree to it. Nowhere in the text did it say what procedure was being done. It felt misleading. All in all i canceled and am now stuck with half a job done by them that i have to try and find someone to finish. They never called me to follow up after canceling. read more

I came in with the goal of having straighter teeth and we settled on Invisalign. She's informative and makes you feel comfortable, she's also just fun to chat with which makes each visit enjoyable. Doctor Courtney also doesn't shy away from telling it straight, whether she thinks you're doing great or there's room for improvement in wear time, she'll tell you. Another dentist referred me to this place to see a root canal specialist because I was having pain from what was believed to be coming from a tooth that had a previous root canal. It turned out it was another tooth that was causing the pain. The doctor said it needed a root canal so we decided to do it right then and there. He immediately gave me a tiny bit of numbing gel and did not even let it set before giving me the anesthesia shot. He gave me a few shots. 1 or 2 in my tooth and jaw which were fine. But then he gave me a shot in the roof of my mouth which was extremely painful. I've had two root canals on my top teeth before, by different dentists, and I have NEVER experienced that much pain. I wanted to cry it was so painful. And, I told him that area was sensitive and painful already. The root canal procedure itself wasn't too bad, except that I needed more anesthetic once he started drilling. And that shot was painful too. The same thing happened with my last root canal, but that time it did not hurt when they needed to give me another shot. The anesthetic started to wear off by the end of the root canal. I was in so much pain after. He offered to relieve the pain by giving me another shot, which I agreed to thinking it was just going to be on the side. He did that AND he did the roof of my mouth AGAIN, which made me cry and scream in agony. Why in the hell would he do that???? I have never in my life experienced that with a dentist. Now I'm afraid to go back to the dentist. I don't know if because I'm brown and heavy set he thought I don't feel pain like others or he was just not thinking clearly. I spent $2k to get tortured! I cannot believe this doctor has good reviews. I will never, EVER, go back to him again. His name is Dr. Steven Kim. read more

They have the worst front desk staff (rude, short, contentious attitude, not on top of scheduling) and the orthodontic experience was absolutely terrible (my dentist, at another office, had confirmed the teeth had not fully rotated and during treatment the whole experience was shoddy). Don't be fooled by the nice equipment, this place is turn and burn, not attentive, terrible scheduling, not professional and likely more focused on 'high visibility' clientele as I heard they had some realty TV doctor working here --- that basically explains everything! As a disclaimer, think Dr. Courtney is a LOVELY person and professional orthodontist, unfortunately I only saw her at the tail end of my treatment, and she can't make up for the staff and operations here. read more

I had such a great experience with Citi Dental group and in particular, Caitlin Miller. I had extreme pain for a few days on the right side of my mouth and searched Groupon for a dental cleaning. When I made the appointment, I told them to just schedule me for a filling as well (and I would pay extra for it) because I was pretty positive that I had a cavity due to the amount of pain. I was able to get an appointment pretty easily (within a few days) and was confident due to their extremely positive Yelp reviews (which is why I purchased the Groupon in the first place). I arrived to this super modern office and breathed a sign of relief. Usually when I strut into a dentist's office I am sweating from anxiety. I did not wait long to be seen and when I was, I told Caitlin about my pain. She took some x-rays and also tested each of the teeth in question to find out which one was actually bothering me. She found the tooth but then told me that I had an existing filing there (from a cavity) so it was unlikely that I had a cavity. She also informed me that fillings need to be redone every 10 years or so and it could possibly be that. I was pretty much insisting that she re-fill the cavity (which meant to take off the old one and completely do a new one) when she asked me to bite several times on this piece of material. I had no clue why she was doing it until I had the "A-HA!" moment! Grinding. Since I was about 10 years old, dentists have consistently told me that I heavily grind my teeth when I sleep. I was told at 10 years old that I would need a mouthguard to sleep. Pfffft. 10 year olds don't listen to crap like that! I was like um, yeah sure. Not. Well, now I really need one. So, I FINALLY agreed to have one made. She said that I needed one anyways but if the pain still persisted that it would obviously be a cavity and she could re-fill the old one. This made total sense to me. The moldings took about 5 minutes and then I went back 2 weeks later to pick up my mouthguard. She filed down one of the sides because it wasn't exactly perfect. I am warming up to it but I am glad that I finally had one made. I will definitely be coming to this office from now on. They know what they're talking about. read more

Well my appointment went much longer than half hour because of the extensive filling that I needed. Yet the staff involved were cool about it! I first visited this office in mid-2011 for a dental emergency; over a year later they've become both my own dental practice as well as my partner's and at least two friends'. Unlike most dental practices, this group has been kind, warm, professional, always, always 100% accommodating. Follow-ups with me after visits and procedures have been personal and have come with the direct email and phone numbers of the dentists, Dr. Amir Ahmadi and Dr. Clarence Loflin who've worked on me for both veneer repairs and now implants. Like many people, I have an absolute anxiety and fear of dental procedures, and having to open my mouth for exams and allowing people to work in there is about as unguarded and vulnerable as someone like me gets; but the doctors and staff here have gone out of their way to make me feel not only at ease, but welcome and, perhaps even more incredibly, appreciated. Pricing here beats other practices I've checked into: and believe me, when it comes to things like veneers and implants, I've done my homework. They'll accept and offer to work with any insurance. After one visit, I gave a follow-up call to Dr. Loflin to update him on a little discomfort I was experiencing; within an hour and a half, and to my amazement, one of Dr. Loflin's employees arrived at my office in lower Manhattan to hand-deliver a tube of medicine which solved the problem. No charge, no request made on my behalf, no personal relationship to anyone who works there. Just good, honest, caring and invested dental care. Incredible. I've had anxiety at the dentist since having some bad experiences with oral surgery as a child, and so I made the mistake of waiting too long between visits. I went to Astoria Modern Family Dental and had a filling, which immediately caused me pain and intense sensitivity for weeks after. I went to Dr. Caitlin Miller for a second opinion, and I ended up needing a root canal as the filling was so deep it was touching the root of the tooth. Caitlin Miller was extremely thorough and professional compared to the other dentists I'd tried in the New York area. She was available via email and cell phone between appointments when I was having pain, and she was patient with my anxiety. Dr. Kristie Mukherjee did my root canal, and it was the easiest dental procedure I've had; her assistant is a magician with the needles, I barely felt any pain, and I didn't need any follow up work after the first procedure. Back to Dr. Miller for the crown, which is a front tooth, so very visible- it matches my natural teeth very well, and the crown came in in a very timely manner. The biggest surprise was that every time I've visited, I've been seen almost immediately, and the one time Dr. Miller was running late, the receptionist actually CALLED me ahead of time to let me know I could come in a bit later. Additionally I have been overcharged for services and my dental insurance has provided me with a reimbursement because I was over charged. Dentists: I've been going pretty regularly for the last few months to get a lot of dental work done. Dr. Miller and Dr. Ahmadi have been fantastic. When my old crown fell out while eating Chicken Tikka Masala, Dr. Miller was very quick to respond to my emergency text and she booked me for the very next morning to get fixed up. During any procedure she updates you with what's going on. She is very knowledgable, personable, and patient. Dr. Ahmadi is a great dude. It's very evident that he really knows his stuff and he does a great job explaining your options as well so you can make the right choice. Just did my first crown lengthening procedure with him and results are looking pretty great so far. I don't even have a bad gum to teeth ratio, I would 100% recommend this procedure for people that do though. I'm still not done with everything but I'm pretty confident that this will look good in the end. Updates to come. Office: Cleanest offices I have ever seen. Really nice looking as well. Wait times have never been long which is a huge plus. Office Managers: All super nice. Insurance communication through email has been a bit rough. I've had to follow up with them a few times because they haven't responded to my questions. They are also pretty aggressive with the appointment confirmations, get ready for a ton of calls and messages but the good news is, you definitely won't forget about your appointment! read more
