It has been awhile since I have been to the dentist. So after getting my insurance in order, and booking an appointment I was more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. There was a lot of people in the waiting room and I can see why because when they take you back there are so many little exam rooms all equipped with dentistry type of dentist stuff. First appointment, x-rays and a quick scrap and polish of the teeth. Then the news... I needed a full mouth deep cleaning under gums, and two root canals. My Amazon wish list items would have to wait, and next week I would return to take care of the damage. The good - I got everything done in one day because a patient cancelled. The bad- They had to double numb my mouth. I couldn't tell if I was drooling or just imaging it. The ugly- If you have insurance, all the procedures are going to be expensive. I would prepare yourself, and if you have to finance it, look at the finance charges, and pick the 3 month if possible. In the end, the staff was great, the work was thorough, and my teeth are probably happier than I am. Sure, I left with half my face numb and my bank account needing a root canal of its own, but that's more a reality of dentistry than a reflection on the office. If you need dental work done and can handle a little sticker shock, these folks will take good care of you. read more

They were good at the beginning, doctor was nice. There's a fortune in old crockery on display. But overtime they pushed only absurdly expensive procedures. They showed little interest in working with my insurance company. They asked for cash and offered loans with ridiculous finance charges. After you join their club, which is extra. So they fail in every way for consumer protection. It's unfair to seniors or anyone on a budget. They could have just refused me outright and it would have saved me time dealing with the sales person. read more

If I could give them a zero stars I would. Worst experience ever, this is my second time coming back for teeth cleaning. I'm not sure if they train their dental assistance or not. First off, I'm here for teeth cleaning, I'm not here for the assistant to listen to her personal music, suppose to be professional office.I should left review last year when I complain to them about the horrible unprofessional job. Today was just the same, my whole process was finish in 10 minutes, if your getting your there clean , it be advised you put the suction tube in the mouth to suck up the water. The other dentist came up with a number of reasons why they couldn't offer me the special pricing because of issues with my teeth, but when I came to Dental Express, none of those issues were brought up. I've come back twice since my first visit, and have had excellent results each time. The staff was very detailed, thorough, and explained everything to me. I waited in the reception area for 40 minutes was brought back to the room check my blood pressure dental hygienist came in number me waited again til" 340. I decided enough. I waited enough I cannot stay all day as I have a baby at home that I exclusively breast-feed. They commit insurance fraud! After insisting i had to have 3 teeth pulled and promised me my insurance would cover a bridge- i agreed do for them to do work. At follow up appt i took off work early waited an hour - only for the dentist to ask me how everything feels. Didn't bother to even look in my mouth. When I asked why I came in I was told so they could tell me my ins denied covering bridge. Why couldn't just tell me with a call?! Also when they did grays he scaped my mouth horrifically causing so much pain. The whole office is rude and unprofessional. I saw Dr. Mais and Melissa today for a tooth that was infected and needed to be pulled. These two were so kind hearted and efficient at the same time. I honestly, sat in the dentist chair for about 15 total minutes. The tooth being pulled was amazingly fast! I have had work completed by Dr. Mais before and it is always a positive experience. I have been deathly afraid to go to dentist in the past. I have never had a good experience until going to dental express. I will never go anywhere else! I give my dentist 5 stars he has really tried, however their idea of dentures are a joke. I still don't comprehend how immediate dentures are your permanent set! You don't get wax try ins you don't get to pick the color of your teeth. You don't get to decide how much gum you want showing. You have no say in how your teeth are arranged or how far the come down out of the gum! I don't know if the service I received because I have denti-cal and are being discriminated against. My midline is off and my tops don't line up with my bottoms and my bottoms are so off food goes up the back, both sides, and stays there until I take them off. It's quite uncomfortable because they are so far away from my gums! Please do your research and find somewhere where you get a say in how you will look with your teeth! Now I'm going to have to find a way to go somewhere else and pay! Not sure how I will do this on SSI but I want to feel good about myself and how I look because not having teeth is quite a shock in how you look! read more

I have been to so many Medi-Cal dentists, and I've been treated like absolute crap by every single one of them. I was looking for a new doctor one day. It just happened to stumble upon Dental Express, so I made an appointment, two days later, when I actually went there and met notjust mydentist, but the entire staff, I was so shocked at how involved they are with your treatment plan and how much they actually care about you as a person. unfortunately the dentist I originally started seeing left after the second appointment I had with her but I've been seen by multiple different dentists at the Santee location and every single one of them are absolutely amazing. Not to mention the dental assistants; nice, doesn't even begin to describe them. I have just had my second appointment with Dr. Patel within a week; these are not fun appointments. Since I have awful teeth and the first was having my tooth extracted on an emergency basis, today was two filings, and I'm now in need of multiple root canals and caps. I have always had bad teeth and many years of these procedures, yet I've never had someone as gentle and swift as Dr. Patel. She has an energy about her that is relaxing alongside an obvious genuine care for her patients. The entire staff is friendly and warm, they are considerate and concise. 9/26/2022 I received a bill in the mail today for $190.00 even though 18 days ago I was told by my health insurance that the office manager ED of Dental Express told them the bill was written off. I called my healthcare provider about my getting a statement/bill today. They had to waste everyone's time again by talking to me, the dental insurance & calling Dental Express again... So my healthcare provider called me back with Ed, Dental Express' office manager, on the line. He stated, "The bill has been written off" since 18 days ago when I last called my insurances. He also said I posted information about the service online (my prerogative). He also said he hopes I won't call my insurance again. I called them 2xs. Most professionals don't go by word-of-mouth--everything is put in writing. Hopefully this won't come up again & Dental Express won't make any assumptions but will ALWAYS verify insurance coverage beforehand. read more

Absolutely ridiculous wait times. Appts are months out and then when you do get in and check in early for your appt you have to wait around for an hour just to be seen. No one is updating anyone or apologizing for the delay. They are overbooking appts so it's impossible to get seen in a reasonable time. It doesn't matter if your appt is in the morning first thing or afternoon. We will be looking for a new dentist. read more

Received the most painful teeth cleaning ever today. My appointment was this morning and almost 12 hours later, my mouth is still throbbing. I don't know if my hygienist was new or not but everything was done at a snail's pace. Usually that's a good thing because you come out with bright, shiny teeth but not this time. About 10 xrays were taken because it seemed like she couldn't get the correct angle of my teeth. But she didn't say anything so I can't be sure.. One of my 2.5 year old twins fell at the playground during a camping trip and cracked two of her cute little teeth in half. I was four hours from home so I needed to find a place that could see her ASAP. I called every single emergency dentist I could find and every pediatric dentist and everyone was either out to lunch or could not see her. The worst. If you want a dentist that is on time, do not come here. You can see my experience the last time in my prior review. They ended up giving me a Starbucks gift card which was nice, but I'm pretty sure it's because they saw the review. I spoke to the office manager on duty just now, Kim. She was very kind and apologetic but this is not okay. When I made the appointment a couple days ago (this is for a 3 year old with a toothache/suspected cavity). I told them about my experience the last time and explained that with a very nervous 3 year old we cannot be waiting long past our appointment time. I was told they would make sure they were taken back right away... they were not taken back for 40 mins past the appointment time. I get that sometimes the schedule gets pushed back, but honestly know your patients... a pediatric patient should probably go first since they're most likely to have the most anxiety. Also just the fact that I had this discussion with the scheduler and also Kim verified that the note was on the file! They couldn't even go out and tell them they apologize for the delay?!
