Dr. Sangkyu Han at the Appleton clinic is the WORST! He is VERY condescending and rude. Do not go to this practice, find another clinic that can provide better care and treatment. THIS IS IN APPLETON, WI NOT SURE WHY MY LOCATION IS COMING UP CA If I could leave no star I would. I am beyond livid how the situation went with my son's appointment today he is 7 YEARS OLD. First off this was a multiple visit that should have done in shorter visits. He was getting caps on his teeth. My son is very fearful of the dentist and the employees there were not helpful with making him feel comfortable, yet they made him feel more scared and were even very mean and rude to him as he told me because parents are not allowed to go back there. During the visit they had asked me to come back there to talk to them, pretty much was saying he will not sit still and keeps raising his hand even though they said to raise his hand when he was in pain! They said the dentist could not do their work, I have never had a problem like this before and suggested going forwarded that we need to give him a medication like valium to calm him before he comes in. ARE YOU KIDDING ME, HE IS 7!!!!!!!! After multiple times going and then having him cry every time he has to go there because of how they treat him, I am fed up and he will be going elsewhere and already have switched dentist's for him. Worst dentist place ever dentist don't spend no more than 2 minutes with you when you need emergency work done they tell you that they're going to fix it and then they give the appointment to somebody else nothing gets done need a referral need this need that why waste your money. Dr Knapp and Dr Murphy these guys need to retire not only they blind but they are the some of the worst dentists that I've ever had in my life. Dental associates is a production line they don't spend any time with you they do minimal work and then you get berated by their dental hygienit. If the hygienist calls in they can't fit you in for 9 months that's the way they get you to use up your allowance of $1,750 bucks per year. If you need emergency work good luck no pun intended but it's like pulling teeth to get something done I've had a cracked tooth with missing enamel for 3 weeks now and I still haven't heard back from them. I had got my wisdom teeth out a few years ago, the day of the service I had been told I had a copay and that's it, great. Then months later I get a bill for $1,300 which I ended up just paying. They told me like years after it happened that I was billed after my insurance was billed but that it was too late to reimburse me. I'm sorry but not everyone has an extra $1,300 to throw around, kind of crazy to do to anyone but especially a 18/19 year old. I don't think I can ever return here I definitely don't want to get over charged again. read more

If I could make this a negative number, I would. I went for an emergency visit for tooth pain. I saw DDS James Kim. He diagnosed me with a cracked tooth and recommended a crown and possible root canal. The exam was very minimal. Because of the cost and I do not have insurance, I looked into a second opinion. That DDS recommended getting on an antibiotic right away. Since I had not been seen by the second DDS yet they could not prescribe any. I called the same day to get an antibiotic and was told since I was seeking treatment else ware they would not prescribe any. In my opinion that is unethical! When I went to the second opinion I was informed the tooth was cracked and mobile (loose) and could not be saved and had to be extracted! Dr Kims diagnosis was so far off!! I do wonder if they would have tried to do the procedure knowing that the tooth could not be saved and charged me over $3000!! read more

If I could make this a negative number, I would. We switched insurance this year from Delta Dental to Dental Associates. I called today to make an appointment as I haven't been up to date on my dental work and I have a very loose back molar. Dental Associates would NOT let me make an appointment due to a small bill that was from 2002! Geez! (That is the appointment that I took my daughter (she's now 21) to for a check-up and the hygienist held her to the chair while the dentist tried forcefully prying her mouth open. My daughter was crying and afraid. I walked over and took her hand and walked away. I was appalled and not willing to pay for bad service.) And now they are still holding it against me!!! read more

Dentists are fine but customer service is lousy. My daughter had 2 appointments cancelled then the third one was cancelled because they no longer accepted Badgecare. My husband went in yesterday. They copied his insurance card and then I went online and it listed him as having no insurance and a $170 bill. They are rude when you call them on the phone. I will never go back there. read more

I'm 74 years old and have obviously had many dentists during my lifetime. Dental Associates has been the best! I've been seeing Dr. Knapp and his hygienist ( unfortunately I forgot her name) for many years now (somewhere in the 15 - 20 year range). I had to have lots of work done and the treatment was well done with minimal discomfort. And with Care Plus most affordable. Thank you for great dental care. read more

If I could drop this down to zero, I absolutely would. Dental Associates has the feel and atmosphere of a glorified dental factory; the lighting is dismal, the staff are generally unfriendly and are completely different (in the 8 years I was forced to go there because my dental insurance wouldn't accept anywhere else) I have never had the same person twice. The staff changes constantly and they perform all of their tasks behind what are essentially just cubicles. I have plenty of horror stories about this place. When I was 10, a dentist here removed a tooth without administering novocaine first. As a result of my story (and a few others), the dentist lost his license and can no longer practice. This place also screwed up my x-rays: the last time I went there when I was 18, they had told me my wisdom teeth hadn't come in. It turns out, they took the picture incorrectly and now, three years later (the first time I've been to a dentist since), I learned that it should've been out years ago. Thanks, Dental Associates. But hey, if you want to go to them voluntarily (if you're forced to like me because of insurance matters--my strongest apologies), that's your poison. Just keep this in mind: these guys consistently rank the highest among the state for having dental licenses revoked. read more

I have been going to Dental Associates for about 20 years now. We have gotten great service and the employees know us by name. They have been very friendly, kind and honest to us. One of the dentists even saw an exchange student, that we had staying with us, for no charge. Dental Associates also has a supplemental insurance that has saved us thousands of dollars. I have been trying to get my wisdom teeth out for sometime now. I made an appointment that had me 3 months out. I was put on the cancellation list incase anything came up sooner to have my consultation. I got a call a day after I made my appointment and I said the time conflicted with work, and there wasn't enough time for me to get off. Little did I know, that took me away from my appointment completely 3 months out. I showed up the day of my appointment to find out that I didn't have any appointment anymore. It would be been nice to have that explained to me. They must have not felt the need, and since when is it that your put on a cancellation list, you get taken away from your regular appointment completely? Terrible customer service. I provided them with my insurance information that they needed to cover my appointment. I didn't hear from them in over two months thinking there were no problems, and now all of a sudden right before vacation I got a letter and call saying my bill is in collections. Come to find out the insurance information was never given to the billing department. Thank you for wasting 2-3 hours of my time while on vacation. I have the similar opinion of their customer service as the one previously. My insurance is the same way. I have to bring my family here r/t our insurance. I feel that the atmosphere is like herding cattle. Get as many people in and out. Customer service was sub par. My Child told me the dentist was mean to her. When I bought up my concerns (mainly about x-rays) the dentist refused to treat my children anymore. I don't ever want to go there for myself and even with insurance do not find myself making necessary preventative appts. read more

I am so happy with our experience at Dental Associates. We took our 16 month old in for his first dentist appointment and Dr. Smith was amazing. She took time to meet our son in her office before taking him into the room where there may be intimidating instruments. She also took the time to meet us. Everyone there was pleasant, including the front desk and scheduling associates. Dr.Smith made the appointment go smoothly and quick and we look forward to seeing her again in 6 months for another routine check-up. I highly recommend this place for their pediatric dentistry. read more

Dr. Smith is great. However, it took over a year to get an appointment, though I expressed numerous times that my child needed to see her sooner due to pain with eating. They noted that we were on a cancellation list and that if they had anyone cancel, they'd call. For a year, we never got a call. This delay led to futher decay of my child's teeth. My child now has deep cavities that need to be treated, but I was told that the soonest they could even see her to begin to treat her is 2-3 months. In the past, they were very accomodating and would get her in for treatment to minimize pain and further complications, but such is no longer the case. We now have to seek another dentist who can treat her to prevent pain and further damage. I hate to leave Dr. Smith as we've been with her for years, but it seems the practice has grown too large to fast to accomodate all her patients. read more

Originally, I was hoping to see a doctor in Oshkosh, but my network had me sent to Dental Associates, Appleton. I was supposed to have a biopsy according to my dentist (formerly an oral surgeon himself) He no longer does biopsies. When I went to Dental Assoc. I saw the oral surgeon for about 30 seconds, who snapped off his gloves and said I had to see another doctor and didn't need a biopsy, he was sure he knew what this was. About 25 minutes later I saw the next doctor who said she knew what this was, and because they are doctors you are supposed to be able to trust them. I might add that filling out their App for background information as a patient, the next assistant asked me the same questions all over again. She had my answers and I told her to read them there, I am not getting all of that info out again. She stated, "I suppose I could do that", and seemed a little angry about it. Next doctor gave me a cleaning and at a followup appointment declared me "cured". Three days later the problem was back, and worse. I was given a prescription and told it would go away and that it was "all in my head" and I need to stop being so worried as stress caused this condition. Again, I trusted her. The minute the prescription was gone it was back. The day after Christmas I called for another appointment and no one ever called back, just went to message. Went back to my dentist who helped me with another prescription and suggested that even if I had to pay out of my own pocket to go to the surgeon he suggested. Then I got a bill from Dental Assoc. after being supposedly in my network and what wasn't covered I had been talked into their CarePlus program that I had to pay for (exclusive to their office). My insurance carrier had to call them to straighten them out and let them know they are indeed a provider and need to pay. No apology will ever be good enough for the trouble and months of having a condition that can progress to something more serious if left untreated. They don't get back to you, refuse to accept my insurance and don't want to be wrong in their "diagnoses"!!!!! read more

My family dentist referred me to Dental Associates for some procedures that my 9-year-old daughter needed. We were referred to them because my daughter has extreme anxieties when it comes to dentists and they felt it was best to see a dentist who works with children. I scheduled the appointment for my daughter to have a tooth extraction and a crown placed on another tooth. The staff were very friendly in getting everything prepared prior to the procedure. We arrived with my daughter a half hour prior to her appointment. She was administered Diazepam to help calm her nerves. We were advised that we were not allowed to be present during the procedure, which was a little unsettling, but I trusted that my daughter would be in good hands. Once, my daughter's procedure was complete, Dr. Bhosale-Mohite came out and "scolded" us, indicating that we never should have told our daughter what was being done today and that she was "petrified". We were then advised to drive around the back of the office to pick up our daughter...Our daughter came out with the assistant in absolute distress to say the least. She was so upset, saying that they were so mean to her, yelling at her, and that Dr. Bhosale-Mohite slapped her in the face, and indicated that was told continuously to "shut her mouth". She kept saying that "the other lady" (meaning the assistant) was nice to her but the "Indian" lady (meaning Dr. Bhosale-Mohite) was so mean. It literally took my daughter hours to settle down. She has begged me to never go there again. Once I did get her to settle down, she was still very adamant that the doctor slapped her in the face and that she was so scared, making me promise to never bring her there again. This whole experience has done nothing but worsen my daughter's fear of dentists. The police were contacted and did do an investigation, which is on file with the Grand Chute Police Department. There were no charges pressed against this doctor because my daughter had no mark on her face and it was basically their word against hers. My intention is to get this information out there to alert other parents to either not use this doctor, or if you do, PLEASE ensure you are present with your child at all times! My daughter isn't the type of child who tells lies and is very mature for her age. The medication that she took did not affect her memory and she was completely alert during the entire procedure. My hopes are that this doctor knows that this type of behavior is not going to go unnoticed and I hope to prevent this from happening to another child. read more

Unfortunately, Dental Associates is the only place in town that takes State of WI BadgerCare+ Insurance. I rec.d a billing statement from them today (6/23/16) in which I was very confused about because my children have primary and secondary insurance coverage. Well, to my surprise State paid Dental Associates for the services rendered and the remainder was suppose to be written off but was not. Dental Associates is trying to get me to pay, in essence - double payment. In addition, Dental Associates is currently under investigation by State of WI. Lastly, this is not the first time they have tried to scam clients. Be careful and if you ever rec. a bill don't pay it contact State first and have them intervene on your behalf. Much like the previous two reviewers, I am not happy with this company. I totally agree & think it works more like a factory rather than a business that is there to help you with your concerns. I originally went there because they offered dental implants & I was interested. I asked to have someone call me to set up an appointment for that reason. When I first went in, I immediately got x-rays & waited to meet with someone who I thought was an oral surgeon, who does implants regularly. NOPE! The guy had no idea if I had enough space for an implant but instead insisted I get a filling on a space that was not yet fully a cavity. I couldn't meet with an oral surgeon for another month or so! When I FINALLY went in to meet with the oral surgeon, I had to wait 25 minutes for him. When he came in, he had no idea why I was there. I told him my story & he immediately cut me off & said Nope- can't get an implant in there. He was very abrupt, rude & didn't seem to care. My whole interaction with him lasted about 3 minutes after a late start. He then told me he would speak to the doctor I had met previously to see if there were other options (what the hell---you don't know?!) He said someone would get back in touch with me the following week---that was over a month ago & still nothing. I am EXTREAMLY frustrated with this business. Not only that but they basically force you to buy their insurance policy. I had dental insurance that worked there but to get more savings they make you buy their policy. Pissed. read more

I will NEVER go back. I had a root canal/crown. I went back several times, telling them that it hurt to bite down. They took more and more of the crown, but still hurt. They didn't know why. I went to another dentist, and a few years later they showed me the xray of that tooth (now unbearable pain). The root canal wasn't done properly--half filled and that is why it hurt. I have been in pain for YEARS because they didn't do it properly. Tried going back to them and conveniently, the machine they needed to check my tooth was "broken" and I never heard back. read more

We just switched to Dental Associates, and it has been a nightmare! First off, I agree with all other 1 star reviews. I would give them even a more negative if I could. This place does not have a friendly atmosphere. Their customer service and billing is a nightmare, but they will try and shove Care Plus down your throat! I had to sign a contract saying that I decline Care Plus...what? We have amazing dental insurance. They do not run the services through your dental insurance and try to make your pay the amount upfront. When you try to explain to them with your dental insurance print out right in front of them....they still argue saying you owe a non existent deductible and that Care Plus will cover that if you sign up. I wish I could give no stars for this review. I've never been so disappointed in a dentist. Went for crown work on my two front teeth and wish now that I never had. Even with my insurance and their supplemental insurance I still owed a thousand out of pocket for terrible work. Even after I complained of how bad they looked neither dentist that looked at them seemed to care. They just based them off of how bad they thought my previous ones looked. Which they put in by the way and were 100 times better than what I've recently received. Doctors shouldn't be so incompetent. Would never go back. read more

If you have the chance to elect any other insurance, do so. This is not a place I would go to again. My first visit there they took Xrays and told me what needed to be done. I was sent to their endodontist to have a root canal and when he looked at my Xrays he couldn't believe that they didn't even find a tooth that was totally rotted under the crown and would need to be pulled. This person had no problem seeing this when he examined me. I made an appt to have the tooth pulled. I was very nervous as I hate the pain of dental procedures. The dentist prescribed me diazapam to take before hand so I would be a little calmer. I went to the appt and waited quite a while. I was put into the chair and signed the form to give permission to have the tooth pulled and was ready to have it done. I bit later they came into the room and told me they would have to reschedule because the gal at the front desk forgot to have me sign a release and they wouldn't let me do so because I had already taken the diazapam. I said I was quite capable of signing it at that time (I barely felt any effects of the drug). They wouldn't allow it and wouldn't do it. Needless to say I was angry and will never go back there again. Fortunately, I do have the choice at my work to choose another insurance that allows me to go to a dentist of my choice. The reason I took the insurance through Dental Associates in the first place was because they don't have the $25 deductible and they paid a higher percentage for their service. What I didn't know at that time was that their prices were so much more than most other places so there really wasn't a savings anyway. Some of the staff was very nice but some weren't. You see different people all the time. In 2years I had 3 different dentists. They come and go there it seems. The procedures are done in open cubicles so anyone that walks by can see you being worked on. I felt uncomfortable about that. Since I have talked to other people I have found that many that have used their service would not go back. There was a lot of dissatisfaction with their quality of work. Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience at Dental Associates they do not know how to treat their patience well. I had braces and wanted the off so I signed a waver to have them removed but yet they didn't remove them well and a hole began to form in my gums and I just recently went back and ask why that is happening and the doctor straight out told me its my fault and they will not do anything. First of all you treat you patience with care and talk them through it, and second you don't tell your assistant to pull the patience into a room and say that they are a disturbance to others when all I said is "If the braces were took off correctly and with care it wouldn't of formed a hole in the gums" in a calm voice. They ended up sending a letter to me and said I'm not welcomed back and will need to find a new dentist. To be truthful they have very bad customer service not all doctors but the one I had was just rude. read more

My 6 year old son had a toothache. Brought him there since they have a discount program and I have no insurance. They talked me into doing everything else but attending to the problem I went there for. I was a naïve mother. After weeks of spending a ton of $ on baby teeth, the day finally came when they would attend to the tooth he had been crying about for weeks. Nope, sorry lady, it's too far infected now. He will have to be on antibiotics for 7 days till we can do anything!! This is the tooth I originally came in for!!! They keep people in pain as long as they can, so you keep coming back. Happened to me too. I put $6000 into my teeth and when I went back, they told me it would be another $12,000!!!! Apparently nothing they did before worked and now had to have more done. I asked for a priority list since I couldn't do it all. They told me that it was all important and either I did it all or nothing. Absolutely refused to allow me the customer to choose what is to be done. I left there saying, "then nothing". Haven't been back since. They are robbers. They don't help you with your problem. There biggest concern is soaking you for all they can. read more

This place doesn't even deserve 1 star. It should be zero! I moved to Appleton and took my son to one of their female pediatric dentists when he was 5. He had never had a cavity prior to that visit. During the exam, she informed me that he had 3 cavities, needed a tooth pulled out, and 2 sealants. Because he wasn't comfortable with her and wouldn't sit still, she said he would need to be sedated. So we showed up a week later to have the work done and the sedation medication didn't work. He had a reaction to it so she had him tied down to a body board and put a device in his mouth to hold his mouth open. She did a quick look at his teeth and then informed me that he now had 5 cavities and needed 4 sealants (somehow that doubled in a week). He freaked out and was fighting to get the straps off of his body due to the reaction to the medication. I was upset about the way he was being treated and her suddenly changing the number of cavities/sealants needed so I told her we were leaving and would have to try another day. She asked me about my insurance and once she realized I had excellent dental insurance, she said that the only way she would be able to treat him is if I brought him to the hospital and had him put to sleep! The total bill would have been well over $2000 for all the "work" he needed. I then took my son to a different dentist in Appleton for a second opinion. After the exam and x-rays, the other dentist informed me that he had ZERO cavities, did NOT need any sealants at that time, and didn't need any teeth pulled out. So Dental Associates lied and tried to talk me into putting my son to sleep and having over $2000 of dental work done for no reason! Thank god I went to get a second opinion. When I called their billing department to complain about being lied to, they immediately reimbursed me my out of pocket expenses. read more

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER go to dental associates. they told me i had a small cavity and it wouldnt hurt to fill it. my apointment was at 11 i wasnt taken in until 11:15 and i was there 15 mins early as they tell you to be. i sat there awkwardly with the dental assistant for ten more minuets before being seen! if thats not annoying enough, it hurt, i was numbed but could definately feel it. the dentist told me rudely "im just doing my job" along with a few other rude remarks, for example, the assistant was not sucking the water out of my mouth properly so i choked on the water and then ASKED to be rinsed because my teeth were gritty. when the tooth was filled he then asked me if i needed to be rinsed again and i said no i am fine, and he said "yeah of course now that the drill is done" i was SHOCKED. and thats not even the worst part. about an hour later when my numbness wore off i bit down my sandwich and got a sharp painful feeling in that tooth, the made me come in the next morning, how convenient, to "file down my tooth" i called again because that did NOT fix my problem and the dentist told me my tooth was hyper sensitive and it would be fine in a few days and if not, to call in a week to be seen. Well, its been 3 weeks and i REFUSE to go back, my tooth still hurts and i have no idea whats wrong with it, as soon as i figure out another dentist in the area that accepts my insurance im switching! NEVER go there! now that i have been whining to all my friends because tooth problems as you know are VERY annoying, i have heard nothing but negative feedback about them IN FACT someone i know had the very same problem HUH!? if you are considering them, please save yourself the agony, theyre rude, have horrible service and clearly dont know what theyre doing! read more
