As a patient of the headache clinic I have to say Rachel and Michelle are truly the best. Kind, caring and empathic but if you need anything not done by them you will not receive any help. I had a sleep study ordered in October and I was told someone would call me which they did in March. And that was after I left multiple messages asking to schedule. A new medication prescribed on March 25th that required prior was not done until a month later and that wasn't due to Anthem BCBS or my pharmacy not advising Dent of this but because the nurse forgot. If I hadn't asked the nurse about another medication for my migraines the auth would never have been done. When I called to schedule my MRI the first available was 5 weeks out. Due to my claustrophobia I always have sedation which has been done by the nurses at Dent. When I scheduled the imaging I was told to arrive 1/2 an hour early for the sedation. Imagine my surprise when I get there to be told the sedation was actually sent to my pharmacy something the woman scheduling nor the nurse at dent told me was being done. The receptionist was unable to reschedule it because "dent doesn't train front desk on scheduling just check in and to call back to reschedule". After all of this I called early this morning and left a message for Kristen one of the managers. Instead of calling me back she had Mary Grace do it because as Mary Grace said Kristen was too busy to talk to me. I understand now I am just a paycheck for the staff at dent. With a high deductible plan I get text messages and a phone call prior to any visit about the cost for "care" and to make sure I have money in hand. I know I'm just a number to Dent but I would have hoped that they see patients as actual people and not just as dollar signs read more

I've had a very positive experience with DENT Neurologic Institute. Karly was my provider for a long time and she was wonderful, I was sad to see her leave. Since then, I've been very happy with Lauren as well. The facility is always clean and the in-person staff are friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that trying to call and speak to someone is almost impossible at times and definitely needs improvement. read more

If I could give them less stars I would. I had a sleep study scheduled. I needed to come in at 1am because I work second shift. I showed up and no one came to let me in. I had rescheduled for the next month, which was also the new year, so I don't have my deductible taken care of. Then my second appointment was canceled at the last minute. I finally got in and it was not worth the wait. The bed was uncomfortable, and tec didn't like that I needed my eye mask (I sleep with my eyes open), and didn't like where I had my arm (I hold them close to my chest). I cannot sleep, I am having so incidence of not breathing and the machine wakes me. I cannot get a good night sleep. Now I can't get an appointment for 6 months. They are probably going to put me on a different machine. I just feel they don't really help the patients. I wish I had gone somewhere else. read more

Dent has gone way down hill from when I originally became a patient 19 years ago. I used to rave about it. I have been a patient of Dr. Mechtler's for the entire time. He used to care, but he is so busy with all of his other initiatives, he seems to only care about profit. Long wait times, screwed up billing, can't get an appointment, 3rd party medical companies used for everything now with no follow through. My last 3 appts I received text messages cancelling them days prior. I then would have to sit on hold when calling to make a new one...his availability being months later? This last time it happened, I never called to reschedule. Now it's been several months and they never called me. I'm seeing someone new. My last visit with him, my "specialist disease doctor" asked me to get answers from him on specific questions he had and Dr. Mechtler was annoyed that I was asking these questions. He also used old data to make decisions and when I corrected him that was no longer true for my disease, you could see his ego shine. But the truth is, I am usually educating my doctors because my disease is rare and always do so with respect. I guess I am just disappointed that he became this way. I used to love him. I see he won another award for excellence in care this year. Did he nominate himself? I can't believe how little he cares about his patients now. read more

I had a consultation for my migraines and was very pleased! My appt was with Rachel who works under Dr. Mechtler. Everyone I came in contact with had a kind and friendly demeanor. The lighting was nice and dim for us migraine sufferers in the waiting room. The medical assistant was good at efficiently updating my medical profile and getting my vitals. Rachel was incredibly empathizing! It was so nice to hear a medical professional using kind words and listening to my symptoms I have been suffering from for so long; I have been getting misdiagnosed for a decade with many things but namely sinus infections - did you know 80 % of them are actually migraines? We had a nice long consult, and talking as much I started to feel a headache and she dimmed the lights for me and got me some pain relief. We discussed things she wanted me to have done, medications for prevention, and medications for treatment. I left with no questions or confusion and also a sheet of paper with clear instructions. My scripts were sent to my pharmacy immediately. I am only waiting on another office to call me to schedule some scans she ordered for me. My only complaint is I did discuss not wanting to be on meds that I can't stop abruptly without repercussions (nothing addictive for example). So we decided not to do the 1st suggestion which was an antidepressant that is effective at treating migraines. I assumed the second was ok because nothing was mentioned about what I didn't want: when I googled it at home, you cannot stop it abruptly without a lot of side effects. I don't like meds like this because they have ruined vacations for me when I've forgotten them or accidentally brought too few. And then they can be a nightmare to come off of even with a taper. So I will see if there are other options at my follow up or may have to take the medication if not because migraines have been ruining my quality of life for too long. Rachel did however go over all of the potential side effects that could occur while taking the medication so I appreciated that. I'm still debating my course of action. I need my migraines to end but want to be cautious about medications I take. But I really did like coming here and felt it was a very thorough and genuine consult. Although my provider at migraine clinic is good but in and out of the room quickly, the experience of getting through on the phone to them is almost impossible. I had blinding migraine for 3 days. I called waited for about 15 minutes to get their operator to pick up (hearing messages over and over "your call is very important to us. Please wait on the line. Or use patient portal." When the operator picked up he said he would transfer my call to triage. Three time I was disconnected before reaching anyone. Then on 4 try, transfer to another "your call is very important to us... After 40 minutes waiting i got a voice mail box. Message on it said someone would get back to me in 24 hours. Unexpectedly when you are in pain. I would not recommend. read more

I have been going to dent for almost 15 years, until this week when they discharged me as a patient for "verbal abuse and behavior". I have done Botox for probably 10 of those 15 years. I have always made payment arrangements with them ahead of each appointment and made regular sizable payments. They've never had to chase me for money and I'm very always communicated with billing with no issues. I never got a text message about my copay. I got this text before EVERY Botox appointment for YEARS. I did not get a text this time to trigger me to call billing. I figured it was because I had just paid $300, they didn't send me the text. Then I show up for my appt and get blindsided. They won't see me without full payment of $297. I was directed to call billing from the waiting room, and spoke with Carrie(sp?) in billing. She was so snarky and made the situation worse, I was sobbing. She has no business talking to a patient. She escalated the situation with her rude comments and talking to me like I was delinquent in paying. The gal at the reception desk could not have been less interested in being helpful or understanding, she was more concerned about telling me it wasn't her fault. The kicker is the certified mail discharging me as a patient for "verbal abuse and behavior towards staff". There is a difference between being upset and being verbally abusive. I was incredibly upset and crying. I was NEVER "verbally abusive". I did NOT say anything directed at her - again, there's a difference between being upset and verbal abuse. Despite calling various times for 2 weeks to make payment arrangements - and point out their billing mistake, none of my calls were returned. I received a text stating all decisions are final and they will not call. I have no recourse to defend myself against this lie. At this point i would never go back anyway, but for them to put that in writing without talking to me as well is what is so upsetting. read more

Every time I have a migraine they get me in for infusions!!! They are So so so so helpful. So accommodating! Abby miller and Dr. McVige's team is highly trained and they know there stuff. Highly recommend. Also use the app for communication, sometimes phone calls take a long time(long hold). read more

Quality of care. Initially saw Dr Li for diagnosis, then began seeing a PA, Mr. K. Fane. ( Not our choice). Symptoms worsened and Fane's remedy was to increase dosage and ad a different drug. This increased negative side effects. When I had questioned Mr. Fane about this, he walked out. Yes, the PA left us sitting in the examining room wondering what had just happened. I guess he didn't want to be questioned, even when experiencing very negative side effects and showing no improvement. Do your research- more drugs is not the answer and you need to do due diligence read more

I met with Dr Sambuchi to tell me why I had neuropathy in my legs. I fell on my right side and had problems after that. I told him it was my lower back. The EMG was normal on my legs? How could that be. I told him of the pain in my SI joint but he wouldn't listen. I know my own body. You know you have a bad doctor when he won't listen to you. He was arrogant and kept saying "let me do my job' ? He wouldn't listen. An intelligent neurologist...not! Don't go to dent go somewhere else. I asked him to do an MRI of my whole back. He said no! That wass I wrong. I went to another doctor and he confirmed that my neuropathy bead coming from my lower back. Always get a second opinion and don't go to Dent on Sheridan Dive in Amherst ! I've had an extremely frustrating experience with the DENT Institute in Buffalo. They have mishandled my medications on multiple occasions, which is not only inconvenient but potentially dangerous. Trying to get in touch with someone for help or clarification is nearly impossible--calls go unanswered, and messages are rarely returned. Ask any pharmacy about what it's like to deal with DENT, and you'll likely hear the same story: delays, confusion, and poor communication. I would strongly advise against relying on them for any prescription management. Your health deserves better coordination and accountability. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Ryan Bowe for about 3 years for migraines. I have had migraines all my life and Dr. Bowe is the first doctor who actually helped me. It took some trial and error but he was able to get me to a place where my quality of life is much improved. He is easy to talk to, gentle with the needles and the whole experience has been positive. I have found everyone else there to be pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend. read more

All I get is an automated voice saying the same thing about "all our staff handling other calls" repeated every minute or so and a lot of lousy music. Beware! Beware! Beware! The pain management department with Dr. Henry and Dr. Myers. Gee, they are starting to run their practice like Dr. Gosy!!! lol iykyk! Who by the way was in their practice and killed my mother in law and my husband! Anyways not the point. I was sent to them because they were able to test for my diabetic neuropathy. Which they did and were able to see how severe it is. So they put me on Morphine 15mg twice a day for the first year, 3 times a day for the second year till now. Last week they sent me a certified letter stating that they are dropping me as a patient. Which shows they are back to the practice of getting people addicted to pain medication and either killing them or dropping them out. They actually said I was being abusive to their staff. If anyone has been abusive it's been them. They make you feel like a junky and play with your script every month. Prime example, in September I received my prescription on the 10th of the month. October they wouldn't give it to me until October 14th! and they have done that for almost the whole last year! They are nothing but people killers and junky dealers. They have too many patients and not enough staff. They made it so you can no longer call them. You can only use the portal. Well good for you if you're under 65. Funny thing is you can't just stop morphine, takes months normally to get off, especially after two years of use. My primary doctor is fast tracking me off, because he never believed they should have put me on it to begin with. They honestly think that they are done with me. Just the beginning! read more

these drs did nothing for me but send me in circles. wouldnt help with my medical problems, wouldnt help with a referral to an internal dr, wouldnt even provide testing. i waited 6 months for an apt and two months from the apt they dismissed me bc another dr of mine called to complain they werent helping. they wouldnt get me to the right dr, lied about internal referrals, and hung up on me when i tried to explain what happened. i wouldnt recommend the Dent to anyone. zero stars! read more

I called to get an appointment with dent neurology at the recommendation of my primary medical provider in March. It seems to take 6 weeks to schedule the appointment. When you get close to your appointment you get a text stating due to unforseen circumstances your appointment is canceled and to call and make another appointment. This has happened to me 3 tiredly and my next appointment was supposed to be September 4th. Today I received a text they are canceling my appointment again and to call and reschedule. This has been over 6 months waiting for an appointment. Totally unacceptable! I called UBMD and got an appointment within 3 weeks. I already have tests scheduled. I will never waste my time, or my health with dent again. read more

Came in for an EMG to check for Carpal Tunnel. I was happy I was able to get in for an appointment very quickly. Upon entering, the front office staff were efficient and friendly, The first person I saw explained the testing to me and made sure to tell me that she was training and asked if it was OK for her to run my test with somebody supervising or if I would rather the other person did it. Being a teacher, so I told her that I was comfortable with her doing it, and she did a fantastic job! Both of the ladies who ran my initial testing were friendly and talkative. Afterwards, the doctor came in and had a great bedside manner. He did a couple of needle tests on my arm which were not pleasant, but he warned me ahead of time and explained what he was doing and at the end he explained my next steps. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I'm very happy that I chose Dent for my testing. read more

Dent is inconsiderate of their patients time. Had an appointment for an MRI/cervical scan in Orchard Park. Received a call changing appointment to Amherst because Dr Myers's wanted the "Tesla" scan. she gave me an 8 pm appointment with instructions to arrive 30 minutes prior to appointment. Told her my appt was the day after the scheduled appt. She stated no problem, Dr Myers's would have the results for the office visit. Waited close to an hour after the 8 pm mri appointment To be called back for the test. Follow-up was scheduled for 10 am the following day. Arrived the 15 minutes early rule. Called to exam room just before 10. Then ended up waiting an hour for the PA to arrive! AN HOUR SITTING IN A SMALL ROOM! Do you think they had the mri/cervical report?! HELL NO! This is just so inconsiderate and ignorant! Go elsewhere. The PA said they were having "technical difficulties"! Common decency would have been to advise before making us wait an hour getting more and more aggravated just sitting there! Funny thing is, I received the mri/cervical results in the patient portal. Why couldn't they find them!? read more

Been trying to get care for my 12 year old son. He has had a constant headache since September (4 months). I understand that migraines may be difficult to treat, but it seems like every time we are there, they are doing this for the first time. The latest appointment, Dr. Q. met with him (3rd time) and was astounded that he had a headache every day. It was like it was the first time we had spoken with him. Evidently reading the chart is too difficult to see what you have taken notes on and what your existing treatment is. He "increased" a medicine to 15mg per day......except he was put on 20mg per day 2 weeks ago. They don't have a clue as to what they are doing and evidently don't keep any records of what they have done in the past. Oh, and when we were paying to see the doctor, we got less than 5 minutes. He spoke and as he did, he started walking out the door. I was able to slow him down by asking a question, but he was out of the door as he was finishing the answer to the first so that we couldn't even ask a second. They can order tests and prescribe drugs, but heaven forbid they do any actual "care". read more

Dent billing is the absolute worst, snarky and unprofessional. I had updated my insurance info on the patient portal five separate times. Each time it was confirmed the info was updated. When I would check a week later, it wasn't updated. I contacted billing to let them know that I only had the one insurance. Turns out Dent was double billing Independent Health and Highmark. Dent claimed Highmark was my secondary insurance when that was never the case. I would pay my copay in person using Independent Health and then 3 months later get a bill for another copay through Highmark for the same appointment. Communication to the billing department through my patient portal and phone calls and snail mail went nowhere. I just received a very unprofessional and harassing phone call from the billing department insisting that Highmark was my secondary insurance and that if I wanted Dent to retract the claims they sent to Highmark that I would owe more money! Do your job correctly in the first place Dent billing and stop harassing your patients while they are at work! read more

Arrived on time for my appointment today. Receptionist was very brisk and rude. Said I canceled my appointment today. I did not cancel my appointment . She argued with me. She refused to get me a supervisor. I told her I was going to sit in the waiting room until I spoke with someone. A person came to help me and offered a 430 appointment, two hours after my initial one. I took that appointment. Call the girl who initially made the appointment to ask her why she canceled my appointment today. She said she may have made a mistake and canceled the appointment today instead of later this month. No accountability, no professionalism. Dent needs a lot of work. I am stuck waiting two hours to get an appointment that I should've had six weeks ago. read more

I'll start by saying this, ignore the negative reviews. I came for a sleep study test, to see about my sleep apnea. My sleep tech Ashley, was very nice and explained everything in great detail. The room I was assigned to had tv, a joint bathroom, and commentary Wi-Fi. The best thing about the room was the comfortable bed and pillows. I had no problem falling a sleep. I didn't realize that a sleep study was so detailed. Ashley hook me up to several sensory attachments. This way they were able to monitor me during the night. Looking forward to my second appointment for the c-pap. I'm ready for some good sleep, and tired free days. read more

If I could give no stars as an option I would. I had been suffering from a migraine that ended up lasting me 18month. 7 of those out of work & stuck in a house because I could not be in the light or around sound. After treating me for about 2 months, Dent, more specifically Dr. Saikali and his NP Michelle Gilliland fired me as a patient. They were unable to help me and instead of admitting to this, they called me, on a 3 way call, the 2 of them & me, to fire me. They stated I was using the portal to frequently & they had other patients to care for. I was being too needy. So, I am stuck home as a shut in, in a tremendous amount of pain & was looking for some help & they just let me go. No care plan, no suggestions, just nothing. Left me to suffer on my own. They were heartless & rude. After telling this story to MANY people, as I myself work with patients, it turns out this is pretty common of them. They seem to fire patients left & right. I know of several people who I was able to deter from going there & I'm hoping this will help others. Don't get invested or involved in this practice as it is, unbeknownst to me at the time, pretty common practice for them to just leave patients high & dry. Whether it be firing them, not returning phone calls, making it EXTREMLY difficult to book imaging and the like....BEWARE of this place! read more

The individual I was seeing for these year has been very helpful but my problems is with the psychiatry department as a whole, not my individual PA or whomever I was seeing. If you need to make or change any appointments you'd think you would be put on hold if you call right? Nah straight to voicemail every single call. Need an appointment? Have fun waiting at least 3-4 months. Miss an appointment? Goodluck see you in 4 months if you can actually make it this time. Also one time I actually saw the doctor, not a PA and they just straight up didnt care and didnt listen to anything i said. TIME. & when I did finally get a hold of them they LIED and said my insurance denied the remaining treatment because "you filled out a survey saying you were starting to do better" because of this my treatment had suddenly stopped with no contact whatsoever. I was absolutely devastated after the receptionist told me that. OH but apparently there's no record of this receptionist ever calling me to say that, even tho their job is to quite literally record every call they make and take notes. DENT never even sent the claim in and then the receptionist lied about the reasoning to cover for them. i've been depressed and on the verge of killing myself for weeks THANK you dent you really did a terrible job. shame on you. only compliment is that the nurses were nice but they need to find a better job because this place is a WRECK. I hope they're happy that I came out even more depressed because they can't operate as a normal business or doctors office should. read more

There are a fair amount of negative reviews here -- but quite honestly, I have never been more impressed with a medical institute. I recently had a very scary medical issue that landed me in the ER twice in a three-day stretch. The hospital staff told me to get into DENT as soon as possible. I called on a Monday morning to get established as a new patient, and they told me they could get me in that afternoon. Checking in was easy and I wasn't in the waiting room long -- I'd say 10-15 minutes tops. I had Dr. Tomaschek and he was really great in going over my health history and discussing what my treatment options are going forward. We scheduled a follow-up appointment right then and there, and I'm hopeful that I'll make good progress by then. Again, don't take all the negative reviews here as bible. While I'm sure they have had their fair share of errors, I had a stellar experience and I'd recommend anyone come here who is in need of neurology services. read more

I have been a patient of Dent for a long time now, probably 10 years. In that time I have been charged unnecessarily, unable to get medications refilled and unable to get ahold of people at dent. With the introduction of the patient portal, it has made things easier to communicate-that being said they are still in the dinosaur age. I needed FMLA paperwork filled out that NEEDS to be done by a doctor. They charge for that! and dont worry the billing people are always availible when I call to speak to the nurses for Dr. Frosts office I could wait over 45 minutes EASY at any time of the day. to top that off, I need to have a form filled out to have the paperwork filled out and although they have a "safe" patient portal you cannot upload it there. you cannot email it to anyone. No, you need to go IN PERSON or FAX this to them. why? I'm not sure but the woman i spoke with on the phone did not care one bit. she just said nope there is no way to do that you have to mail it or bring it in or fax it and thats it. Cool, so take my money AND make me work for it? sounds like a great place to go for treatment to me. Thanks DENT!! read more

Super speedy visits but super long phone wait times. The CEO def makes the decisions which clearly stress the providers out who in turn practice as if they're running a race. Its not theyre fault that they dont have time to care, but the system at DENT must change to offer better care. Our family moved on to Southtowns Neurology where time is actually apent with the patient. Maybe DENT can work on restoring their reputation like they had 20 years ago. read more

In 2020 I started have nero problems and I don't remember who the neurologist was but after the second visit and ONE test done he told me that my Autism was the cause and I should try to stop being Autistic and I'd that would make me better!!! The stress and pain that they have put my mother through is absolutely unacceptable. The Admins that work at the Amherst, NY location are horribly unprofessional and lack customer service skills and empathy. They have communicated the wrong billing and will not take accountability for the mistakes on their end. When we tried calling to discuss the billing issues (thousands of dollars owed when they said the treatments were covered) they would pass us to a voicemail of someone who was on leave- never addressing our issues and then denying treatment. Who does this to an older lady with Multiple Sclerosis? I am horrified at the lack of empathy and added stress that they have put on my mother, who clearly has a lot of pain dealing with this type of illness. We will definitely be taking legal action here and they will be held responsible for false information and then denying treatment.
