Sad little waffle.

Maybe the cook was having a bad day but look at this pathetic little waffle. It takes balls to serve a customer something like this.

Friendly service and great food. Definitely a place that I would choose to take my family again.

Ate here today for lunch. Good service. Good food. Maybe needs a deep cleaning? Seemed dingy or old.

Is Main Street a mainstay?…read more Word-of-mouth brought me and my dad to trying this place out on a cold and blustery Saturday morning. He had heard good things and I had heard the same so we figured to see what we thought of it. It wasn't too busy when we arrived and we were told to take a booth to our right. We sat down to a half-full but bustling restaurant. We got our menus and drinks promptly and started poring over the menu. My dad went with his usual country fried steak skillet-style meal and I went with a basic stack of pancakes and bacon. The vibe of the place was a generic blend of diner and family restaurant. Nothing really stood out to me that was unique besides this US Veterans table we were next to. I didn't get to snap a photo as they just cleaned it off and were about to sit down another group of people that just walked in. The waitress brought out our food and accidentally brought us a muffin instead of my bacon but was super quick to swap the two. Looking at my food and the price I paid and looking at my dad's food and the price he paid, I was instantly jealous he got so much more food for about the same price. The pancakes were large and plentiful compared to some places I've been and the bacon were long strips and not shriveled up and almost cooked too long. So why the mid rating? The waitress and staff overall weren't all that friendly. They weren't unpleasant by any means but the friendly chatting and banter you normally get at a restaurant was lacking here. There didn't seem to be a lot of mingling and cohesion to the staff that you see at most other restaurants. It was weird and if not a bit mechanical feeling. I'm not the most extroverted of people but a little bit of banter or chatting with the server is usually a plus. But most importantly is the food. How was it? Serviceable. The pancakes, even with the butter spread on it and plenty of syrup, were lacking a big punch of wow. Granted, it's just pancakes but I'd prefer to eat pancakes at a restaurant that don't feel like something I can make at home. The bacon was super tasty though. Just a bit disappointing that 3 strips were $3.99. My pops said he enjoyed his meal but it wasn't anything to write home about. I did try a small chunk of his country fried steak and it was decent, if not a bit overly crunchy/burnt on the steak portion. Overall, not a bad time with my dad but I just wish my meal wasn't lacking that punch for $12. I'd definitely come back and try a lunch item to see if that provides the oomph that eating out provides versus eating at home.

My husband ordered the Jambalaya Mac & Cheese 'without the crab'. The server never mentioned that the dish was pre-mixed or that omitting the crab wasn't possible. When our food arrived, she set down a Lobster Mac & Cheese instead. My husband hates lobster, so there would have been no reason for him to ask for "no crab" if that was what he wanted. When he pointed out the mistake, our server, Kris, initially argued with him instead of fixing her mistake. She eventually took it back, but it was another 20 minutes before his meal arrived. By then, I had already finished eating, so we weren't able to enjoy our meal together. I also had an issue with my Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich. Because of a medical condition, I can't eat the bun, so I cut the chicken up and eat it with a fork. That turned out to be nearly impossible because the restaurant only provides plastic forks and knives. While struggling to cut the chicken, my entire plate ended up in my lap. Kris didn't seem very familiar with the menu, and the overall service left a lot to be desired. Everyone has an off day, but for a first visit this wasn't a good impression and they weren't busy at the time. Between the incorrect order, the long wait to fix it, and the lack of proper utensils, we left disappointed and will probably choose somewhere else next time.

Review Visit: March 8th, 2012…read more Hilltop Grill offers an eclectic variety of events and menu items. Good food just isn't one of them. After my whirlwind trip to Florida for spring break, one of the first things I did when I returned was visit the Hilltop Grill. Like many things, I've drove by this place many times and since I was still on vacation, a friend and I decided to stop in for a post-vacation lunch. Neither of us had heard much about the Hilltop, so our expectations were neutral. Walking in, we instantly liked the layout. It was all wooden and felt like a nice place to get food and/or beer on a weekday night. The menu wasn't outstanding but it seemed to offer your usual restaurant items. Burgers, fries, appetizers and other things. I feel like I ordered a burger and fry and my friend ordered something similar. While I don't quite recall exactly what I ordered, I do remember being severely disappointed in what was served. My friend was almost equally disappointed in the meal they received. The food was bland and the service was alright. We were the only ones in there and even then, the service from the waitress wasn't great. In all the times I've driven by since visiting, they do seem to host some unique events. I've seen them host wrestling matches in their parking lot. I've seen midget wrestling (if memory serves me right). I've seen car shows. I've seen a military memorial service there. I believe they also have live music sometimes as well. It sucks to write a bad review. It never feels good to speak negatives about a place. That is why I always put this disclaimer in here. Just because I had a bad experience doesn't mean the place is terrible. I've been to places where one time the service is great and the next time it isn't. It has been 7 years since I've been here and they are still in business. So that must speak volumes for the place being popular. Go there and see for yourself. If you don't like it, you are probably only out $10-$20 and you'll have a story to tell.
