Instead I saw scary aggressive behavior and dog fights. Where is Animal Control? Safety laws are being broken. Please, as a dog owner, train your pooch or keep him on leash!

My favorite part of this trip for me was the laaaarggggeeee, expanding lake. It's very romantic to take your sweetie out for a walk and circle around that lake. There is lots of wildlife, so I suggest you don't carry a jar of honey, or you'll die. Nothing much to say, but it's definitely better than everyday activities. Hiking and Boating is a gift that doesn't happen everyday unless you're lucky enough to have that access. I love it, and hope to come back a second time. Coming from Arizona and staying at Purgatory for the week to enjoy cooler weather, the no sunscreen part is pretty exciting. My kids rave about this place (now 11 and 13 years old). The rock wall is no joke, either! Unlimited access during open hours (special hours for rock wall, but generally closed after 4pm). Kayaks in the pool at 6pm on Wednesdays for a $5 rental? What is the Colorado? Super cool way to learn!

I liked how you could get up close to the structures and see them in detail - no entering or touching though! Some were build right on the edge. I wonder how they manage to design them and maintain them on such a precarious position. The visitor center has helpful NPS rangers and a small gift shop. There are some displays, but the best part is to go out and explore! The bathrooms are also nice with running water.

The…read moreRainbow Hot Springs is a 10 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Pagosa Springs. Also located in the San Juan National Forest. The forest occupies land in Archuleta, Conejos, Dolores, Hinsdale, La Plata, Mineral, Montezuma, Rio Grande, San Miguel and San Juan Counties!! They have plenty of campgrounds (with friendly campground hosts) and nearby Horseback Riding opportunities. I came here with a good friend of mine, as we visited South Fork, CO. The weather was perfect in May of 2021 and I needed a Chilly Mini for my neck. We spotted some gorgeous waterfalls and really unique plants. San Juan appeared to have had a forest fire in the last 5 years, because we definitely witnessed some aftermath. Lots of old, dead and burned down tree trunks. The trail is fairly easy, a little rocky, but such a great cardio workout for your calves. We spotted some wonderful rivers that kept my friend and I very cool.

We were checked in by a friendly lady who offered me a Veteran's discount. FWIW, currently, the prices charged seemed higher than those on the website, but lower than other soaking options. We brought our own towels and found a lounge chair to hold them. There are several pools and I was surprised to learn the lap pool is not geothermal water--cool city water there. The first pool was 88 degrees and designed for kids. Too chilly for me, but my son spent most of his time here playing water basketball and swimming around. Second pool was in the mid-90s and felt much better to me. I was also able to enjoy the 102 degree (about my threshold for being "hot") adults-only pool. Watching the pools and surrounding peaks as the sun set was awesome. Very nice. About these things were were stoked. We were not stoked to learn upon checkin that the slides had closed at 6pm, along with the activity pool. This info apparently relies on word of mouth--not their website--to know in advance. We'd have come the next morning had we known. Boo. Lame, even. With kids, this place is a winner if arriving well before the slides close. 6pm. You heard it here. Adults only? There are several better options nearby. 3.5 stars

The sign specified that owners should pick up after their dogs. When I walked, with my dogs, to the 12th Street side, the sign said "Dogs, tell your owners not to walk you dogs here. This is a play area for children." There was no delineation between one side and the other; it was all grass. Ok to walk your dogs in the park or not? Not clear.
