I brought in a pair of vintage Levi's for alterations and clearly explained what I wanted done. I was quoted $120, which I was okay with as long as the work was done well. Unfortunately, the result was really disappointing. The stitching was uneven, the seams were crooked, there were loose threads everywhere, and there were even new holes that weren't there before. It looked poorly done overall and definitely not worth the price. I went back to let them know I wasn't happy, expecting at least a conversation or a chance to fix it. Instead, ANA became defensive, raised her voice, and dismissed everything I was saying. At one point, she actually started ripping apart the seams of the jeans in front of me, which was shocking and made the situation feel even more aggressive and unprofessional. It ended with her throwing money at me and telling me to go somewhere else to fix the seams she ripped apart. I wouldn't recommend bringing anything valuable or sentimental here, especially vintage pieces. Actually the most horrible experience. The other employees made it clear this happens often. read more

Very expensive. Two pair of jeans chainstitch hemmed (no taper) and sleeves on a cotton jacket shortened from the cuff. $220. Stupid me I dropped them off at closing on a Saturday and then realized that $220 is way too much for that work. Since they are closed Sundays I called the following Monday (they were closed for President's Day but answered) and I asked them to not do the work and that I would pick everything up on Tuesday. I called again Tuesday morning to confirm what I had spoken with them about on Monday and they said no problem they will put everything up front for me to collect and they'll happily refund me. I showed up three hours later and what was originally a ten business day turn around was suddenly done in less than one. I guess I'll just chalk up the inflated price as an expedition fee. The work was ok but I still had to ask them to fix a small repair they had neglected to address before I could leave with my items. read more

If you want vintage denim, this is the place. My friend and I went and spent almost 2 hours there. They have the most incredible selection of primarily Levi's but some other brands. The staff were amazing and patient and suggested great items. We walked away with a couple pair of jeans and a cool Italian belt. The prices are expensive but in line with what you would pay for vintage denim somewhere else and the customer service added so much value. A special place in Los Angeles. read more

Paid 100 to have the collar restored on my denim jacket. It was pricey but worth it since I wear this jacket a lot. I am VERY impressed by the restoration! My before picture was taken way before the repair so the collar was very frayed by the time I took it in (I just forgot to take a photo). Completely botched my brand new 501 Levi jeans and botched the alterations on my other brand new 501 Levi jeans. Jeans were not done on time. I took in a pair of uniquely-designed jeans that were frankly too big for a reasonable person to aspire to wear, but that I liked too much to give up on. To my surprise, they went ahead and took my measurements anyway and after more than two weeks I got them back very cleverly altered. They removed material from multiple places around the waist and somehow kept the back pockets functional. It was not cheap, but they did superb work. read more

I have no words. I usually stay away from writing negative reviews but i'm just shocked. I wish I could give it 0 stars. Horrible communication and customer service, the job on the jeans kept delaying when I was promised it would be done in a week (it's been almost a month and still nothing). I can understand that situations happen that are out of their control, but a simple call or a message with an update would be more than enough. Instead, I had to call almost every single day to get information. Very unpleasant experience, will never be coming back. If you're considering this place, don't even bother. I was originally going to give them a 2 star review, but their outstanding work quality prevents me from doing so. I came here in 2017, as a visitor in LA, to get custom distressing done on a jacket and they did it flawlessly and within a week's time. I came here again last month, as an LA resident, to get custom distressing on a denim shirt and to replace the sleeves on another dress shirt. Once again, they were perfectionists. Top Shelf. You couldn't even tell that the clothes were worked on. So...why the low score? 1) This recent time it took nearly 3 weeks to get my clothes back, despite an original quote of 10 days. When i would call to get a status, it would turn into phone tag. The "I'll call you back" never resulted in contact back. 2) Not honoring yelp 10% check in discount on alterations. When I asked for this discount, they said they don't honor it and haven't done so in 5 years. If so, then why is it STILL listed on the yelp page? Bait? Overall, this place offers superb work coupled with abhorrent customer service. I probably wouldn't come here to alter any of my high-end clothing. But for anything else? Like clothing you got on sale or clothing laying around that you wouldn't mind customizing and possibly not seeing anytime soon then sure. read more

I'm so disappointed with my recent experience here. I brought in a brand new pair of pants for a simple hem. Over the past few years I've had them hem and taper many pairs of pants and have never had an issue, but his time was absurdly bad. I picked up my pants and after I got home I noticed the sloppiest stitching. Maybe they thought they could get away with it because it was black stitching on black fabric, but they didn't get away with it because it looked like crap. Then I noticed the holes! Sloppy stitching can be fixed, but holes in a fresh pair of pants?! What's that about? I brought them back in hoping they'd offer to reimburse me for the ruined pants, or at the very least reimburse me for the $31 hem. No such luck. She told me that the pants came with the holes - lying to my face like I'm an idiot. I very calmly explained to her that if the pants had existing holes I would have seen them. She tried to convince me they are a 'distressed' style of pants, which they're definitely not. We reached an impasse, since she refused to take any responsibility for her shoddy work. She even has the audacity to tell me that if she HAD accidentally put holes in my pants she would have patched them up and I never would have known (I still would have known). She offered to "fix" the mystery holes and made it seem like she was doing me a big favor. The owners have absolutely no integrity or respect for their repeat customers. This place is amazing. I was super bummed about my favorite pair of jeans ripping and, at first, skeptical about "invisible" jean repair. I did a lot of research and decided to take my jeans to a place close to me, instead of sending them off. Best idea I've ever had! MY JEANS LOOK AMAZING!! I couldn't be happier with the job they did on them. Not only did they repair and re-enforce the side that ripped, but they also re-enforced the other side after realizing it was worn as well. Only $25 for a repair and re-enforce!!! That's nothing compared to the price a new pair would have cost me. I was also estimated 10 days, and I had them back in 7! Fantastic job. I think the low point was when my niece said my jeans were so baggy that I had a "sad butt." Denim Revival to the rescue. I took in 3 of my most cherished and comfortable jeans to have them all hemmed and tapered - no more JNCO life for me. Admittedly, I was skeptical. I'm a stickler for original hems and I've been known to donate jeans if I can tell they've been altered at all. Four days later (they were done early) I went back to try them on and it was like I had 3 new, perfectly fitted pairs of jeans. There is no comparison. This place does incredible work. I have been coming here for almost 10 years. They have repaired multiple pairs of jeans, slacks, suits, and have even corrected bad work from a place in the valley. They can repair rips & tears and most of the time make them almost invisible to the casual eye. I've had to point out repairs to friends that couldn't spot it. In addition, they are always pleasant and have helped me when I was in a time crunch for a business trip. Prices are always reasonable. Especially for LA. My prior experience with Denim Revival was good. Unfortunately, this last time was a COSTLY mistake. I brought in some Ralph Lauren cargo camo shorts to get hemmed, the stitching is noticeably not lined. Two pairs of J Brand jeans hemmed not lined. My G-Star pants ($180) are completely ruined. They reattached the original hem, that I never asked them to do. Now they can only make them shorter, so I guess if I start to shrink they'll be fine to wear. You pay upfront here, so now I have to go somewhere new to get the shorts and two jeans done again. And for my G-Stars' I guess they are going to charity. Rag & Bone cargo pants, those are the only ones that are actually fine. To sum it up... I'll NEVER go back to this place again. Thanks... for nothing! read more

New Management? I've taken many a pair of high end jeans for repairs here. Prices were pretty reasonable for the amount of work and the results were great. On a recent trip I was quoted $20 to fix a 1" broken seam in a crape skirt and $30 to reattach a loose patch. It took me about 20 minutes to do this by hand, so this would have taken a professional with a sewing machine less than 10... read more

ABSOLUTE HORRIFIC CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have been a loyal customer of Denim Revival for nearly a decade. I brought in an item to be repaired and was extremely disappointed with the end result- despite being charged $50 to fix a small hole. The owner said to bring it back and that she would fix it. After holding onto my order for well over a month, I returned to find the item completely untouched in a bag next to her sewing machine. Instead of taking pride in her work and valuing a repeat customer who brings hundreds of dollars in revenue to this business annually, I was met with extreme hostility. She threatened to remove the stitches which would have further damaged my order. There was no apology for wasting my time, overcharging me for something that was incomplete, or the lack of communication from their end. I will never return and will never recommend their services to anyone. There are plenty of amazing tailors in LA and this is a completely unacceptable way to treat a customer. read more

I'm one of those guys who get by on his looks. All the success I have ever achieved in my life was because I really spend a lot of time and effort trying to look good. But, due to a dual law/Psych program combined with 60+ hours of work a week, I have gained some extra weight. The weight gain caused 3 pairs of my $400 jeans to blow out in the crotch and ass area. It was a disaster! And the rips on some of my jeans were so massive and deep that it would take a miracle to save them. But, I was in luck because I found a store on West 3rd Street that sells miracles. I'm obsessed about True Religion Jeans. I have spent over $3000 this year just on those stupid jeans. It's an addiction for me. And the worst part is that I always get them a month before they are released to the public, therefore I pay double the price for them. When True Religion Jeans rip, you can't just throw them out. But, unfortunately here in my hometown of Las Vegas we don't have "Invisible Denim Repair". Here in LV we have a guy named "Habib on Decatur" who is considered by the LV Yelp community to be "the best tailor" in Vegas. But, he couldn't fix the rips on my jeans. All he did was put on a patch from walmart which made my jeans very uncomfortable. Also, the patch was a total eyesore that even a 90 year old man with cataracts in his eyes could see. It was not invisible, yet Habib charged me $20.00 for that monstrosity. Well, eventually I ended up in Beverly Hills that month and I gave my jeans to the nice lady at DENIM REVIVAL. She charged me almost nothing. I mean...it was around $25.00 per jean. In less than 8 days, she went out of her way to mail my jeans to my house in Las Vegas. And today there is absolutely no trace that there ever was a tear in my jeans. They look better today than they did when I first bought them. Like I said, DENIM REVIVAL performs miracles on jeans. Many people(especially people in Las Vegas) don't know what "invisible denim repair" is. How can a tailor fix denim without a patch and make it look like there was never a rip in the first place? The answer= these expert tailors weave the denim the same way it was first weaved in the factory. This process of reweaving is something that only the greatest tailors can master. And DENIM REVIVAL absolutely has the greatest team of tailors in America. No one else comes close! No one can touch them! They are the best. The Lady who owns DENIM REVIVAL is the nicest person in the world. I know that most people mail their jeans to her and never actually get to see her in person, but luckily for me I had the privilege to meet her. She is very positive, honest, talented and hardworking. After talking with her for less than 2 minutes, I knew that my jeans were going to be better than new when she was done with them. And of course I was right. TIP=Don't park in the neighborhood right behind DENIM REVIVAL. The neighborhood I am referring to is called Blackburn Ave. It's a very upper-middleclass white community but it's full of psychos and douchebags. Back in college I dated a girl who lived on that street, and I know from experience that the people who live on that street WILL key your care. I parked there maybe 6 times back in 2007. And all 6 times one of the bitter residents of that community came out and keyed my Prius. Those Blackburn people are f*cked up in the head. The location of DENIM REVIVAL is really great! It's literally a 3-5 min walk from the Farmer's Market. It's like a 5 min drive from the Beverly Center. And, it's next to a Trader Joe's! What more can you ask for? The most notable thing was that the lady only charged me like $15 for a rip on my Japanese True Religion Jeans. These jeans were handcrafted in Japan by True Religion's Japanese division and exported to America. That's why they costed me over $500, yet she only charge me like $15 to get this fixed. At Denim Doctors, they wanted to charge me $90 to repair that same tear. Not just that, the workers at Denim Doctors are rude hipsters who have no customer service. At DENIM REVIVAL, you get hard working honest people who provide nothing but excellent customer service. Believe me, I am a DENIM REVIVAL customer for life. read more

You know how some jeans are anti-fit? Well, you can get them un-anti-fitted at Denim Revival. Five steps to casual jean nirvana: 1. Buy a pair of raw selvedge anti-fit jeans, e.g. Levi's LVC 501. I recommend the 1947 and 1955 cuts. See Paul T's posts on superfuture for sizing information. 2. Rinse them in the washer without any detergent. The goal is to shrink them down before making alterations. Use hot water and the regular cycle. Don't worry, you only lose a little more indigo with hot water than with cold water, and you get full shrinkage in one go. Tip: Safety pin an unneeded, lint-free sock over the leather patch to prevent it from getting smudged up with indigo. Since we are dealing with raw denim, hang them up to dry instead of putting them in the dryer. The initial stiffness will help the creases set in nicely. Tip: Hang from the rear belt loop and open up the legs as much as possible. If hung up to dry on a line, the jean will crease down the leg in the usual way, but leg twist (due to shrinkage) will lead to a misalignment with the actual seams. These misaligned creases do not iron out. 3. If the jeans don't fit your butt and thighs well, take them to Denim Revival for alterations. They can take in the seat at the back seam, making the profile curved (non-anti-fit) instead of straight (anti-fit) when folded in half. They can also slim down the thighs and taper the leg below the knee (to give the illusion of a straight leg) without disturbing the selvedge. All of this for only $50. They can also chainstitch the hem for $18. This is why I recommend buying a raw denim anti-fit jean. You can have them altered to fit your body without artificial fades and washes getting in the way. I am very pleased that the alterations at Denim Revival are undetectable. The seams, inside and out, look like they were sewn at the factory. 4. Wear for at least 6 months straight without washing. 5. Wash in warm water with detergent (to clean) on the regular cycle and rinse in cold water (might as well try to keep as much indigo as possible). Finally, hang them up to dry and beam with pride at your awesome, perfectly fitting, naturally faded jeans! At this point, you can wash them as often as you like. If you want them to be light blue, wash them repeatedly until they reach the desired shade as there is no further benefit to waiting between washes. Then there's the matter of the dressy jean. I was promised $20 per jean for 2 pairs. The first pair was done and I was very satisfied with the work. It lived up to the reputation of seamless repair and I was very surprised. However I was told it would take 8 days but when I called 8 business days later they said "Oh I said 8? I really meant 10 days" Not very happy about that but I let it go because they did such good work. When I took in my second pair however I was told that it couldn't be done for $20 as she promised and charged me $25. In addition, this repair was far from seamless. It starts as seamless on one end and the repair gets gradually more visible until the end where you can practically see the stitching. It cost me more to get a crappier repair job! After 2 repairs, I can't say I'm happy with my experience but to be honest there are few other places that can do seamless repair so it looks like you'll just have to suck it up and deal with the possibility of poor workmanship. read more

I am so glad I found this place on Yelp!! My favorite pair of distressed AG jeans had a couple big holes that rendered them unwearable. I was about to sadly toss them when I thought I should do an online search to find a denim repair shop that might be able to fix them....and I came across Denim Revival. The process was so easy! I mailed in my jeans to them and a couple days later they called me saying they could fix them for a cost of $75. I know this might sound pricey, but figured it was better than tossing away a $225 pair of jeans! Within a few days they mailed them back to me - and they were perfect! We had a pair of jeans that the owner insisted she didn't alter around the waist, but only cleaned up the waist.... very odd to have that happen when it fit totally differently before she cleaned it when compared to after cleaned. Honestly, with all the repeated visits we made it would have made sense for them to just say they would fix it and not bother repeatedly pointing out that it wasn't their issue. I can't say how exciting it was to me to find this place!! Well, Kampy should take credit because he's the one who recommended it on a thread about hemming jeans...so thanks Kampy! DR is a little hole in the wall establishment that caters to denim lovers...they not only hem your jeans (either traditionally or by keeping the original hem) they also completely repair holes, tears, wearing, scuffed cuffs etc. to the point where ya can't even tell there was damage. Yeah, they are THAT good. I took in two brand new pairs of Hudson jeans for the "trick" hem...each was $22 (original hem) and two other jeans to get repaired...one was about to rip in the mid-thigh and the other had a gaping hole in the knee and a matching one on a belt loop. The two latter jeans cost $30 for the thigh fix and $35 for the 2 hole combo. Prepare to pay upfront and wait a bit if you're getting a repair...like a few weeks...but it's worth paying $30 to preserve those fave jeans rather than shell out another $160+ for a newbie pair!! I absolutely hate shopping for jeans, but it's a vicious cycle. I'll find one pair, fall in love, wear to death for 4-6 months, and then the crotch wears out. Suddenly I'm back in my own personal hell, shopping for jeans. But then I found my perfect pair. Level 99s, skinny straight, half-off on sale at Anthropologie. It was a match made in heaven and I had never been happier putting on my pants. But alas, it went the way all my jeans do, and I had a hole-y crotch before I knew it. I wasn't ready to let these guys go, though. The wash was too perfect, the fit was too flattering, and the price for a new pair was out of my league. That's when I went to Denim Revival. I took two pairs, my favorites and a Banana Republic number that I had murdered long ago but still fit well. These are not fancy jeans, but no judgement was passed when I handed them over. It cost about $55 to get both of them fixed - a little more than I had anticipated, but still half the price of a new pair of Level 99s. It took about 10 days to fix, but they look flawless! With your eyes, you can't even tell there's been work done, but the crotch has been reinforced and the material is noticeably more durable to the touch.
