Been here a couple of times now for conferences. To be honest, it's in the middle of absolutely no where, so much so that even the cab driver was like are you sure something is out there?! But yes, it does exist and it's a lovely place! Food is particularly awesome and top standard, and for the rooms, depends on your luck and your wallet it can be quite nice, though the old wing can be quite run down. I don't really know why anybody would stay at this hotel. It's basically out in the middle of a heap of fields, out somewhere near Rickmansworth. And no, I hadn't heard of Rickmansworh either; but it really does exist - as does the hotel. I feel an urge to speak very highly of the hotel; I produced a film in a field nearby (and now the mystery of why I was out in the middle of nowhere becomes apparent, a detail not interesting enough to warrant this special bit in brackets) and they were very accommodating to us, providing free water, discounted sandwiches for our lunch, things like that. I find that kind of helpfulness and hospitality very rare. But it's great that they were that way inclined - and now thanks to their generosity; it's led to this review, which means that the next time one of you readers are in near-but-not-actually-in-Rickmansworth, you're likely to want to stay there; the problem being, of course, that you're never going to go to Rickmansworth or near-but-not-actually-in-Rickmansworth. But let's pretend you will. Another reason I love this hotel is that they also offered me a very cheap but classy room after I begged them after a days shooting. Understanding my plight and probably understanding my depression at being near-but-not-actually-in-Rickmansworth - they cut me a deal. And it included breakfast. Breakfast is awesome. I mean, breakfast in the hotel is awesome, not just a general statement. Because sometimes when I have breakfast at home I find my cornflakes less than rewarding. Regardless, they gave me limitless tea and orange-juice and cooked breakfast and pastry type things and possibly they had cereals too; but I can't remember. My only gripe is that there was a lovely receptionist who I chatted to over a period of days; and in an unusual display of confidence I gave her my details; hoping for her to keep in touch. Her definition of keeping in touch is obviously different to mine - because all I've gotten since are email mailouts from the De Vere Hotel group. So, naturally this would lead me to assume she took my email address and added it to a database; but I'd like to think she's just playing hard to get. read more

I went to the dingy hotel one night for a business trip. Unfortunately, I did not find out until morning that they put me in a hotel room with no running water. The sink dripped a little cold water at a slow trickle. There was no hot water at all. The shower had zero water, not even a trickle. Just the fact that they would stick someone in a room that they knew was inoperable tells you all you need to know about the character of those that run this small poorly unkept hotel. read more

Went to join a large group of about 50 people for a family reunion (I was an guest member !) A long way up a minor lane near Denham airfield Very good room. Very large by todays standards. Monster sized bed. Heaps of complimentary toiletries and refreshments.Large well ordered breakfast room with a wide choice. Every thing possible was done by the staff to make us welcome apart from the young receptionist who was agog with indifference almost to the point of being surly. She was thankfully off duty on checkout day! That apart I would recommend the location for a relaxing time. Large grounds ideal for walking around and catching up with the past . read more

Our room smelled like mold, and the shower leaked under the shower door, flooding the bathroom floor. When I asked to move, they told us they were booked, so we were out of luck. I have a feeling this is not the first time they've heard these complaints, yet they do nothing. The room needed painted and dusted badly, and the carpet was cheap and attracted debris, making it look dirty. The common areas looked fine, but I can tell there's an overall lack of cleanliness and caring as evidenced by the bad lettuce and stale buns and cakes at the dinner buffet- it was quite disgusting- leaving food out all day like that is a health hazard! I suppose there are no standards in the middle of nowhere- the location of this hotel. Don't expect to walk down the street to a decent restaurant, because you're stuck in the forest. I tagged along for my husband's conference, otherwise I don't know why anyone would willingly choose this hotel. This place needs a general manager to whip it into shape- paint, air circulation system in rooms, proper drainage, a chef who doesn't let food sit all day on a buffet, etc. read more
