I stopped by for their Sunday morning brunch and was greeted with a quite lively atmosphere with a large majority of the tables being full. Even with how busy it was, every employee I interacted with was very pleasant. You order at the register, the food is delivered to your table, and there is a self service drink station. I ordered the French toast as well as the queso grits, and both were extremely delicious. The queso grits are a cup of grits covered in a creamy queso and are probably one of the best things I've tried. Overall, Demetri's is always such a great choice, and I never leave disappointed in any way. If you don't mind a bit of a crowd, I highly recommend it. Stopped in at Demetri's for lunch on Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised to see the location also sold Greek food. It's like a bbq smokehouse and inside it's several areas for seating. My waiter was a bit rushed and straight to business which was a bit intimidating for a first visit and a big menu. I can tell he was used to regulars coming in which is a good thing. I have been wanting to try for a long time and finally made it on one of the first cold days of the fall season, so I decided I needed to get the Cold Day Combo with a Bowl of the seasonal Red Chili and Grilled Cheese. This was a perfect filling lunch for the cold day. Despite the parking lot being full, I was seated immediately. Many of the smaller tables are very close together. So close that you could easily reach over to sample your neighbors choices if what they have looks better than yours. Over the years we have heard a lot about breakfast at Demetri's BBQ, so I certainly had some expectations going in when mom suggested Sunday brunch there. Apparently Sunday brunch is more a self-serve style where you order at the register, get your own drinks, etc. Totally fine with that. Employees are friendly and food came quick. Food itself.....they were fine overall. We ordered 3 dishes - brisket breakfast, country fried steak, and an omelet. The best thing were the grits that came with two of the dishes. They were probably the best grits I have ever had. Buttery, but not overly so. Cooked perfectly. The country fried steak was the worst. Probably the worst I have ever had. It had a rubbery consistency and a lot of unbreakable tendons inside the meat. However, everything else was fine. Average. Not particularly good or bad. read more

This is for Sunday brunch only. My high praise for Saturday breakfast remains unchanged. I understand the desire to spiff up the menu, but I think it just doesn't quite work. First, unlike most mornings, you have to order from the counter and then self-serve when it comes to coffee and non-alcoholic drinks. You then find a table and wait for the meal to be brought to you. But if you want a refill on your water? Go get it yourself. Do you want a refill on your coffee? Go get it yourself. Want anything at all? Go get it yourself. So, as a result, not only do you pay more to eat on Sunday vs Saturday, but you have to do the work yourself. Oh, and if you're not actually going to take my order or make sure my coffee is refilled, then why am I paying you a tip? Demitris, loyal customers that we are, I think it's a good idea to rethink the customer experience on Sunday. read more

Disappointed After the Hype - One and Done I had been looking forward to trying Dimitri's BBQ in Homewood for quite some time, especially with how often it's packed and talked about. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the anticipation. The concept itself was confusing--Greek and BBQ??? We went for breakfast, and everything fell flat except the biscuit and bacon. The pancakes were bland and had the texture of mushy bread. The grits were severely undercooked and oddly topped with a watery cream that made them nearly inedible. The gravy? Straight out of a packet or can. The only bright spot was the service; it was decent despite the crowd and long line outside. But good service can't make up for food that simply misses the mark. BBQ pork extremely dry. Chili had scorched beans in it and lemon icebox pie had an overly browned meringue which dried the pie. Now the peach hand pie was good but not worth making a visit for. It was also expensive for what you receive and poor quality. This has been my experience every time i have visited Demetri's for several years. Went to Demetri's for lunch. The ribeye on ciabatta bread is really good and worth going for if you love ribeye. Their Mac and cheese is super interesting in presentation however also very flavorful. Ambiance is solid but nothing spectacular. The smell of ribs is pretty nice and makes it feel almost like a cookout. Staff is nice and attentive and the service is quick. Price is pretty good considering what foods are offered. Will definitely check out other food options next time I visit. read more

This was my second time eating here and it felt like home. I ordered the wings and ribs plate with side salad and mash tato. The wings came with a sauce that I can only describe as ranch and thousand island mixed together very tangy and good. The ribs were disappointingly very very dry to the point of inedible. The side salad was refreshing and delicious. Their ranch is now on my list of good ranches in Birmingham A++. One of my daughters got the pigsickle (rib) and my other daughter got a pretty good size tasty cheeseburger off the kids menu. My husband ordered the pulled chicken salad. The only thing he found odd was it didn't come with cheese of all things. All in all, we will be back for the wings as they were comparable to Troups and Slice...fall off the bone tender and awesome smoky flavor and the customer service is as 10/10. We were in town visiting our son and picked this place blindly on our way out of town because the parking lot was full. We sat at the bar, service was good and quick. There were a lot of locals there which says a lot. Fun, busy vibe. My husband ordered the Fiesta Omelet - said it was very good! I recently came here for some dessert and utilized their drive up window. The young man who assisted with my order did a good job. He was very courteous. I ordered a slice of coconut pie and a fried peach turnover. The coconut pie wasn't for me but looked good. The peach turnover was pipping HOT and nearly melted the styrofoam counter it came in. Not real sure why it was packaged this way but it was certainly fresh and I appreciated that. This wasn't my first time at Demetri's but I don't quite remember anything about my previous visit. FAVORITE BBQ SPOT PERIOD. I have never been a huge bbq gal but at Demetri's that goes out the window! Their bbq sauce is more tangy & just absolutely perfect. I always get a pork plate so I can make my own sandwich (gotta get a side of slaw to add to the sandwich). With my plate I get the fried okra which is probably the best I have had, dip it in the sauce that comes with the onion rings & Their mac n cheese should be called mac & 700 pounds of cheese. If it's your first time, you have to get The Original so you can get a little bit of everything ESPECIALLY THE GRILLED LOVE BISCUIT. No matter what you have to make sure you get a biscuit. I've also gotten the potato bowl, French toast, nachos, stuffed poblano pepper (yum!), and recently I've been getting the fried steak and eggs (picture attached). I can tell I'm going against the grain on this review - they have so many great reviews, I have to admit - I'm disappointed with my visit here. I don't always like to write a review after just one trip to any establishment, but that being said, many times it's that initial interaction that will steer the relationship you have with a place. If things go well, then you will probably be back - you are a little more inclined to let some things go if that initial experience is a good one. But, when you start off rough, it's hard to want to go back and give additional tries - there isn't a relationship built already. All that said to kind of make a point, I feel like this is a place that caters to 'locals'. I watched as the wait staff interacted with people that had clearly been there before (talking with customers on first name basis). As I sat and waited for my table to get cleaned - have a menu brought to me - get a drink order in ...... it just isn't exceptionally welcoming for a new person visiting. When my drink was brought to the table my waitress evacuated as quickly as possible to continue her rounds with the regulars ... meanwhile I couldn't get her attention to ask for a straw that was forgotten with my drink. With a stack of straws at a counter in the corner - problem solved, I got my own. The food came out pretty quick and all in all wasn't too bad. Not that any of them would have known if there was a problem as I was never checked on during the course of the meal. Pork sandwhich had good flavor and stood alone w/o needing any sauce. The onion rings were under battered - which is too bad, as the batter had a good flavor. The food is probably deserving of a 4 star, but I just can't say that anything compels me to return. Once I was done eating I sat at the table for 10 plus minutes waiting to try and pay - wallet out - money out - obvious I'm ready to go. It's always nice when you have a place you can go as a 'local' and they take care of you. But it shouldn't be at the expense of new customers. read more

It's been several years since I have stopped there and my regrets started with tables so close together overtime you moved you bumped the person at the other table. I ordered a bbq sandwich and onion rings. After a long wait I got a very dry sandwich and onion rings the weren't completely cooked. The service was slow because there seem to be only one server. My son gave me a gift certificate. I was slow to redeem. They told me they don't take those any more. No expiration was shown on the card. They finally agreed to email me a replacement, but when I went to redeem it, they refused to accept it. The food is marginal. The lemon pie was especially bad. The crust was soggy. The lemon pie at Oak Hill Bar and Grill a block away is far superior. If you want Bar B Que, go to Miss Myra's. It's not that far and vastly superior. read more
