update?: I remember scanning the badge after waiting in what is apparently now called the overflow line. Is the time spent in each line being tracked? When I first went many years ago, there were no badges back then, so I don't see how management could know that the wait was *never* that long. I gave it a more positive review 6 years ago for being unique - that's why I wanted to go again, but it didn't hit the same the second time... perhaps I expected more to change over half a decade. For being so dependent on story telling, the little videos throughout the haunt have terrible audio quality. Horrible very noisy , waste of time haunt. The review that mentions waiting for hours in two different rooms is very true. We waited in the smaller room for 2 hours. The haunt prides it self on making people wait for 5 hours! It did not flow at all. You spent more time waiting for doors to Open then anything else. They made sure you didn't see any other group. Not scary at all. The scary part was waiting in line. You could not move forward until you watched a video in every other room. Hardly any actors in the haunt. Fantasic haunted house! I went on a Saturday at 6 with a group of friends. I couldn't tell you how long we waited to get into the actual haunt because the lobby/waiting area inside was so entertaining. They had awesome decor, music videos, haunt videos, and live actors who jumped into the crowd at one point. The haunt itself was super fun. It had a great mix of live actors, story, and large animatronics. Tip: If you get to an obstacle that you want to skip (like crawling), there are side passages you can use, just ask the staff. read more

This was amazing! Tickets were $35 a person which wasn't bad considering the quality of the haunted house! There are 2 bars on site so when you check in you can grab a drink before you get on line and when you get halfway through the line there is another bar. It's perfect. We did have to wait in the line for about an hour to an hour and a half BUT while you were in line there was entertainment. There were people on stage putting on a show and nothing was repeated!!! There was crowd interaction and music as well. One of the best lines I have ever stood in. When we finally got to the actual haunted house, it was amazing. (Review from experience on 10/23/2018) First off, let me say that I get really into Halloween around this time of year and have been to a lot of haunted attractions, including several that have ranked among the best in the country. My expectations are pretty high. Since moving to Boston, we have been disappointed by the options in the area. After having visited DementedFX, I can say that this is truly the best haunted attraction I have experienced in New England. LOCATION: The location adds to the experience. It is in an old factory building which appears to be mostly empty. We bought VIP tix, which included drinks. There is a bar next to the ticket booth with several beers on tap and a really entertaining bartender. If you are of age, I highly recommend the pumpkin ale with cinnamon and sugar on the rim (ask them what they call it). After having a drink in the VIP lounge (nothing special, just a room with some booths and scary music videos playing), we were directed through a door to the head of the line. EFFECTS: The special effects are amazing and intense. As several others have written, many of the effects are movie set quality. They come at you from all angles. Very impressive! There is a cohesive theme of creatures having taken over a biological research facility. The length is about right - it took us about 30 minutes to get through, which made it feel worth the 1.5 hour ride from Boston. With the drink before, we were there for about an hour. Paired with dinner somewhere nearby beforehand, it makes for a reasonable trip from Boston or Providence. From the Hartford area, it's a no-brainer. ACTORS: The actors were really into it and their make-up was excellent. The only complaint I have is that there weren't quite enough of them. This may have been because we went on a Sunday night, but I think the experience would be improved if there were more (hence the 0.5 star deduction). Having more actors would also help to slow people down and prolong the experience, instead of having them run through in fear (which happened with a few people in our group). The effects and make-up were so good that I wanted to slow down and enjoy it a little more. OVERALL: Really well done! Creepy location, cohesive theme, amazing effects, and actors who clearly make the effort. Well worth the trip and the price! Note: Due to how scary it is and some of the "adult" language used in the introductory video, I would caution parents that this is probably not appropriate for young children. read more

There is no telling how long your wait will be. This is absolutely ridiculous. No warning and no way to know. An hour wait turned into two, then turned into three. Demented FX is one of the best Haunts I've been to. I've been to new Hampshire to Florida for haunts and Demented FX is one of the top 3. VIP experience is fun and enjoyable. Just me an my girl went through as a group of 2 on a fairly busy night. Got scared, Got Scared, an oh yeah got scared. The effects and animatronics where very good. the actors never stayed in one place and actually made the environment scary and believable. Covid safety was followed to a T and they took that very serious. The owner who does in the intro video puts up with no nonsense and same with security. 10 out of 10 would get scared again. read more

This is the best haunted house in the area, by far. I waited the first night for 4 hours because we kept thinking that we were close to being at the end. But remember this, that night it was raining and alot lf the haunted attractions in the area were closed. I hoped the whole time that after this long wait that i would not be disappointed, and i was not. A very good production is put on with the whole time being taken up with suspense, fear, fun and scares. Since we had so much fun after the first 4 hour wait, we decided to go again with friends of ours so they could enjoy it as well, which they did, and this time the wait was about 2 hours which is not abnormal for any haunted attractions this time of year. And the videos, drinks and snacks(drinks and snacks for purchase) in the main line definently help! Simply put, go check it out!! read more

As of 10/22/22 this is the best haunt in New England. There are lost of horror mazes that are elaborate hallways with people jumping out and saying "boo" (and don't get me wrong, I love those). This is not that. DementedFX is a beautifully crafted immersive story that makes you feel like you are the main character of a horror movie. The performances are fantastic, the scares are smart and psychological and it is built by truly creative people with a deep love of horror and Halloween. In 2016, I was offered the opportunity to revisit DementedFX at their new Holyoke location. The owners, Jeremie and David, hoped to show that this year's haunt would far surpass last year's. In a brief summary, it was vastly improved. The Holyoke location far and away, is better than the previous spot in the Button building. Among many perks: greater street parking availability; sheltered ticket booth and waiting lines inside; snacks and alcoholic beverages available to purchase and consume while waiting in line; background music and visuals to keep everyone entertained and amped during their wait. Bathrooms inside were clean and private. To be completely honest and fair, we were given the royal treatment while we were there. I know it was important to them that we have the best possible night at DementedFX, which we greatly appreciated! We were able to skip the line as VIPs (something I hope they offer to everyone, for a small upcharge), although it did seemed like everyone in line was having a great time. This is a great adult group activity: what more could you want? booze, snacks, high-energy music, and your best friends. My husband and I joined another group (for a total of 6-7), something they've taken from their previous location. If you're a small party, you will likely be lumped with others. This was not a bad thing, as I'll detail below. The Experience: DementedFX, while still relying heavily on world-class puppetry and animatronics, is primarily a haunt centralized on "genetic engineering gone wrong meets zombies". The theme was similar to last year's, with some amazing new monsters and visual effects. One of their strongest traits is their ability to stick to their story and centralized theme throughout the haunt. Other haunted houses struggle to keep one continuous theme; hence you'll often see 20 different "themed" rooms in one place. Not at Demented FX, they've got their story down pat. The BIGGEST improvement had to be the human scarers. In my last review, I was disappointed by the uncommitted characters and lack of creepiness. This year, I'm happy to report that Jeremie and David certainly upped the "creep factor". One long dark hallway, in particular, gave me the heebie jeebies: was someone sitting there, on the floor? I couldn't tell. My eyes strained in the darkness. Another girl in our group-- a complete stranger-- grabbed my hand as we walked forward in almost pitch black darkness. We were also "followed" by several human scarers as we walked the haunt, another big "plus" in my book. The Monsters/Puppets/Human Scarers: DementedFX is unparalleled anywhere in MA, when it comes to their giant, hand-carved monsters and animatronics. They're Hollywood quality. I'd love to get a chance to closely inspect these monsters up close outside of the haunt. It's a true art form. If you jump-scare by giant, oversized monsters popping out at you, DementedFX is gonna "get you" over and over again. There's not a ton of gore or grotesque characters or scenes. Me personally, I don't jump scare, but I still screamed several times throughout the haunt. This was due to the human scarers, definitely improved from last year, with unique personas that are more character-committed; plus Jeremie and David really upped the creepy vibe (as described above). Detail/Sets: Being at a new location (one that increases the footprint by double, triple or more), one "shortcoming" I noticed was the lack of detail in the sets. There was a lot of blank wallspace and uncomplicated set design. I attribute this to the massive increase in square footage, and expect to see them add more visual detail in the coming years. Overall, I'm happy to report Jeremie and David's expansion into Holyoke as a great success. The haunt is bigger and the human scarers are more complex, which add to your haunted house experience. Your wait in line has just improved with available alcoholic beverages and snacks, plus high-energy music and lighting. Their "story" and theme is unique and well-followed throughout, and allows them to really invest in their animatronics and puppetry. Based on our lengthy discussion of all things horror after our DementedFX experience, I know how much the owners pour into this venue: financially, as well as with their time, heart, and soul. I look forward to returning year after year, to find what new amazing improvements they've built into DementedFX. I'd definitely recommend that you check out DementedFX next Halloween. Gather a couple friends and make a night of it-- they'll definitely get more than a couple screams out of you! read more

Don't get me wrong - for our first Haunted House experience on the East Coast (we just moved and have been to TONS in California), it was okay. It's the first Haunted House that had just 1 very long experience. In CA - usually they are outdoors and there's 4-6 houses and you buy a pass to go in and wait in line and go from house to house - they are much shorter but many more experiences. We got there about 15 minutes before opening and had to wait in a decent line to get in - once we were in though, it was a full HOUR wait before we got into the house. There was probably less than 100 people in line in front of us - i can't imagine going at say 7-8PM - you'd probably have to wait hours. That was disappointing. Plus - the wait is basically standing in along winding line in a dark room with extremely loud music videos playing and being shown on 2 walls. They serve alcohol as well - that was a new thing for us - in CA they typically don't have alcohol. I assume because the wait is long and the house is long - they have large parties go in - i think we had 10-12 people in our group - and the problem is that it's usually multiple groups of people which ours was 4 i think, and so it's not like we are all together and you do walk in a line, so... the front people get all the scares and the back people basically get nothing. I tend to get scared easily so i love this stuff but there were people in our group in the back that basically did not get scared because they saw it all happening in front of them. I have found groups of 4-6 through a haunted house is best, based on going through probably 50+ haunted houses in the past 10 years. I also know that supposedly the production value is supposed to be so amazing that it's worth the price - i noticed no difference really than haunted houses I've paid 1/3rd the price for... Again it was a decent haunted house, but i don't think i'll be back. We did pre-buy our tickets online to save a couple of bucks but it's expensive for what you get. read more

Super scary!! Waited in line for two hours and this was a slow night. Luckily they have tvs and music. Actors did a great job inside the haunted house. Effects are awesome. My only complaint is the bathrooms. With that many people need to increase the bathrooms and clean them thru the night! The bathrooms downstairs had rat droppings in them! read more

Visited tonight -- I'm going to start with Halloween is my dad and my thing. We love to go and get scared. I will give DementedFX the fact that it's week "2". BUT I got scared more times before I walked in than walking through the entire attraction. That being said if you're not into hauntings and are part of the general population -- you'll probably be pretty scared. LOTS OF COOL EFFECTS for the average normal human. Here are my highlights -- The soldier dude out in front deserves his own shout out. He KICKS ASS! Spooky, creepy sense of humor hits all the right goosebumps. The bartender in the back Ryan was great! Super awesome to chat with and sent a few friends our way which is always fun! The zombie that greeted us before we got the rules was cool too. That being said here are my LOWLIGHTS -- there needs to be more variety with actors and attractions and lighting. You need some actors to not say anything (there was one memorable guy that didn't and he could've followed me the whole time and creeped me out so shoutout to him good job). There are way too many ROARS it wears off eventually. Some variety with what's being yelled or screamed would be helpful. Same thing with the attractions. Lots of giant stuff jumping out at you on sensors -- varying this would make you more sensitive either a room that's less pop out stuff and more acting involved OR a few that are closer together back to back would like pop on the right then immediate on the left. A little strobe light goes a long way to help hide the mechanical shit. And mess with people's visuals to heighten other senses. A few more black light rooms spread out will help to mess with people's visions and make the scary stuff even scarier. Finally, i know your 18+ suggested but no one needs to be cussed at that much. It doesn't make things scarier, sometimes a creepy whisper goes a long way. Cut some of or all of the rap music -- you're not a dance club OR (if you must) mix it up with more clips from horror films contrary to your actors belief it doesn't desensitize it helps with the mood and setting. We caught a group and a group caught us and we were good about following directions so that was slightly disappointing. Overall I'd give the scariness a 3.5 because I did enjoy myself. And I'm sure on a busier weekend the VIP (which should be more appropriately named RIP) is worth the money spent. BUT sometimes it's fun to wait and have the build up happen! read more

I was so excited I actually jumped for joy. Actually jumped. And grinned like a maniac. One of the zombies lives in my building, and I'm super happy I ran into her still wearing full makeup on her way home. She told me and my boyfriend about the place and we decided to go there for my birthday. No spoilers, but this place goes out of its way to scare grown adults, and does an amazing job. What killed it for me was the guy who was in the butcher shop he started off fine but then called my girlfriend a bitch and said "that's why bitches don't lead" and at first I thought it was part of it then he called me and my boy a faggot and at that point he kind of killed it for me. We went to this haunted house last night with a group of 5 of us . Unfortunately our review isn't going to be stellar . Here's why : 1- The wait in line while inside was a real let down . Loud random music blaring so you could hardly even hear anything. I'm always down for a good dance party , but thought scary music or movie bits would have been much better than what was playing . Definitely felt the lead up to the attraction could have been so much better . 2- Once your brought to the 2nd room , there's a video that plays and explains how things work . In the video , they talk about the safe word "Safety" that you can use for some reason you cannot do a certain room . My husband and daughter had to unfortunately use the "safe word" when they got to the very small , dark tunnel that you had to crawl through . They both have severe claustrophobia . Once someone finally heard them say "Safety", they were treated horribly ! They were called "Pussies" numerous times from the female employee and treated terribly. The video states that once you use that safe word that the actors will come right out of character and assist you with getting to the next room . She never broke character and showed them the way out to the exit . So 2 of our 5 in the group didn't even get to see the entire attraction that we drove 2 hours for . Having the 2 bars was nice . I've been to Haunted houses in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Long Island and this one blows them all out of the water. 10/10 shit pants.

The wait time was extremely long; maybe if drinks/snacks were available for the whole house instead of just for VIP it would've went by faster. After that the haunted house was decently enjoyable up until about the end point when one of the actors was extremely rude, calling us 'bitches' and 'gay'. This killed the whole vibe, if it wasn't for that one actor I'd rate it 3 stars. read more

Honestly this whole experience was overall really great! the only downside is the line, yes their were food trucks on the side of the line, the people who were working their came up and scared you, but the line was SO LONG! I understand i was coming from almost an hour away to see this place so i can imagine how many people have heard about this place! the security or people who weren't dressed up were very nice! the first time we went it there was a line to the end of the street...like legitimately by the intersection by the dispensary. It was soooo cold outside but i can't blame it on this place as it's of course not their fault. We got their around 9:00 and when we got to the door it was about 11:30 but they told us there was over another 2 hour wait inside. Everyone i was with was so drained and also had work the next day so we asked them if there was a way we could use our tickets for another day! they said yes and helped us out through the whole process of getting our tickets printed! We did come back the next weekend and had a blast! However, the one thing i think they could improve and is definitely a rule againest too much touching...as in the people scaring. I don't care about them jumping in front of me or getting close to me but one scarier LEGIT ate my friends hair...FULLY ENGROSSED HIS MOUTH IN HER HAIR...definitely the weirdest experience i have ever had with a scarier at a place like this. read more

Worth the drive where ever you are. The name says it all. Entering I was rudely greeted by the demented beer servers but realized it was apart of the vibe... The animation behind it sets the tone getting you nervous. My favorite part was there is a storyline/theme towards the walk through and lots and lots of detail put behind it. I liked that your group was only with you, and segments that definitely startled you no matter who you are. Some tight spaces a quick crawl space and surprising things. Went there back when they were located in Easthapmton, was an amazing experience. The staff all did an amazing performance of making sure the horror atmoshpehere is built up. They give you a full back story to the history of the haunted building your about to go through, all the while your looking around wondering where you are. The actors and costumes were insanely spot on and gruesome, and they even go the extra mile of chasing you through some parts. I don't scare easily, but they got me at least twice with a rally good scare. Overall, I would highly recommend it to anyone whose looking for a great scaring experience read more

I've been to almost every Haunted Attraction in New England and multiple ones all over the country. I can honestly say that Demented FX puts on one of the best shows I have ever seen. Their intro is unlike anything I've witnessed in my travels. Their Outro is just as good. The reality is you are damn lucky to ever get an intro at a haunted attraction let alone a outro (totally a thing now). Most of the time you are shoved in and let the pop out screams begin in most places. Demented FX did an insanely good job at letting you know what the story is without really telling you. Not going to spoil anything because it's that good. Their theme is/was a science lab that either was making monsters or discovered a portal to a demon world . What impresses me the most is the build up through the attraction. The deeper you walk into the lab the more and more grotesque and alter dimensional world the place becomes. Scientists are victims in the beginning and full out melted zombie warriors by the end. They even have the army come in to escort you to safety, or so you'll think. Like I said, most places have the same actors jumping out at you for a few seconds during the entire walk through and you walk out the exit saying "....oh this is the end?". This place has great actors, great atmosphere, great story, amazing sets. I can say this is easily in the top 3 best haunts in all of New England. read more

I went to this attraction with a group of people, some I had just met that day at a softball tournament. All of a sudden I was grabbed by my wrist and pulled towards a door leading towards the outside, with an employee yelling in my face get out. I calmly asked the employee what was going on and he yelled at me that one of the gentlemen in the group and I assaulted one of the actors. I left through the door that the employee threw me from, and asked to speak to the manager and the police officer who patrols the event. They told me the event was video taped and when I asked the employee to see the tape his response was he got word from an employee that allegedly the gentlemen I was with touched the actors. I DID NOT TOUCH A SINGLE ACTOR and was the one actually assaulted. I was not mad that I missed the rest of the event. What bothered me was an employee falsly accusing me of a crime in front of a group of people I work with and have a professional reputation to maintain. read more
