Nice New York Moving and Storage

This is based on a coast to coast move (San Jose to Brooklyn, NY). In my professional life, it was…read moremy job to work with movers constantly. This was THE worst company I have ever dealt with. EVER! At delivery, there were hidden last minute fees of another $900.00. We were told a day prior, that our balance was 3K (Approximate) by the driver of the delivery vehicle. When they arrive, I'm told we owe another 900.00. Even though we told them ahead of time (the day before) we needed a smaller truck to accommodate the limited parking space, and that there were 3 flights to the apartment, and we were told NOTHING about extra charges for this. When they arrive, they wouldn't begin unloading without the extra money, and threatened to put our possessions in storage. As we are calling The supervisor (who was just as rude as the crew chief) as for an explanation, the driver is pushing for the money immediately, or he's going to leave. I had to borrow the money from a relative on the spot. After all this, we witnessed members of the crew drinking on the job, spitting in the hallway, the crew chief telling the crew not to tell us of damage they did to our furniture, and insulting me and my wife behind our backs. I was right behind him as he was talking to his crew. He didn't like that I called him out on it, but hey, a total lack of professionalism needs to be called out. Three hours into the move, two of six crew members left the job site. At that point, the crew chief and three other crew members sat outside (on our furniture, BTW) making arrangements to have family members complete the move. During the whole delivery time, after collecting the money, the crew chief only helped bring items up only four times, and not at all once the first two crew members quit. A neighbor, seeing what was going on, offered to buy the crew water (In the hopes of getting them to get back to work). The crew chief rudely yelled back "Red Bull! We need Red Bull! My neighbor, being the sweetheart she is said "Oh kaaaay..." And got them a bunch of Red Bull cans to help me and my wife. After damaging some of our furniture by dragging it cross tile floors in the hallway, and up the stairs, they "placed" (read dumped) our boxes in the designated room with no regard to box placement, orientation (many boxes were placed down side up although clearly labelled) not to mention a total lack of regard to items marked "fragile". As we opened the boxes, we found many properly packed glass and stone items (wrapped in heavy duty bubble wrap) destroyed. Every stand-up lamp was bent. And we have yet to go through all the boxes. I shudder to tally the losses. In and Out Movers (Our original contacted mover in San Jose) subcontracts the pickup, the long haul, and the delivery to other companies. The pickup was handled by KLM, the long haul and delivery by an agent of Allied Van Lines, "Nice Moving And Storage", based out of Brighton Beach in Brooklyn. We had a decent decent pickup crew in San Jose. After that, the move devolved into a sloppy, rude extortioner's, sewer of a mess. I urge anyone contemplating a move with these folks to SERIOUSLY contemplate an alternative.

They did a great job packing all of our items, which included a lot of heavy items, including a large marble table, several couches, and tons of heavy pieces of decor. Everything arrived to our new apartment intact. No items were broken, either! The movers helped to unpack all the large objects and re-constructed our bed and bedframe in the new place as well. Overall, I would highly recommend these movers!

I found them on unpakt.com, called them, and found them to be very helpful and able to accommodate my needs. It was a comfortable 3-4 weeks before our move. We were happy. Then, out of nowhere, 12 days before our move, we get an email that they canceled our move. No phone call, no nothing. Just an email. So, I call them -- and was promptly reassured that the cancellation was a clerical error ("I think my secretary cancelled you by accident"), and that he would get back to me. Saturday comes and goes, no call back. So I call Sunday just to check in, and am told that he is out of the office until Monday morning, but he will be back in the office by 9am and will call me first thing in the morning. I confirm that he knows my name, he tells me he doesn't need a phone number, recites the details for my move -- all in all, I'm feeling confident. Monday, 3pm, no call. So I call him and am sent to voicemail (for the first time) and leave a message explaining that I would REALLY love to hear back, given it's roughly 9 days before our move at this point. Monday, 8pm, no call. It is now Tuesday, 6pm -- still no call. Because of this "clerical error", and frustrating inability to return my REPEATED calls, we were forced to book with a different company -- after going through a number of other companies who were booked by this point. This company jeopardized my entire move, and they STILL have not called to apologize or rectify the situation. They delayed my booking a company that actually DOES want my business by 3 days during a peak season and less than 2 weeks before our move. This was the opposite of reliability. Highly, HIGHLY discouraging.

My husband and I checked and rechecked, this caused a lot of tension between us. We have boxes missing from our kitchen, dining room, bedroom, basement, office (that had my writings and our workshop art studio area. Small personal items that I have had all my life are gone. I was in contact with Natalie from Impress and she was rude and condescending by asking questions about me being sure that I unpacked everything. REALLY???? She didn't even get the dates correct and send a claim form (which turned out to be for damaged not stolen). Being born and bred in NYC, I was happy to find a mover from there. We got screwed. DEEPLY DEEPLY disappointed.

Aki am not sure whether imbeciles work in that company but scratched and broken am have two different definitions. They lost my boxes and say the max value is $50-75 like wth??!! Even if the boxes were full of plates only, we know that they are not valued at $75 max!!! Like come on! They lost valuable shoes (all my dress shoes for work), my expensive sneakers from APL (one pair is $165-250) and they lost all my boots. And then start to tell me that people are claiming for diamonds in their luggage. First of all who would trust a moving company with diamonds. Also the fact that they came with a trailer and I was the last delivery. They were late by a week with zero communication and start comparing how a chef cooks and doesn't share ingredients. I'm not sure what restaurants they go to but the ingredients are always shared so that one persons is not getting poisoned by ingesting food they may or may not be allergic to. Also a carpenter tells you what materials they are using. This analogy was such a fail. Not sure who was advising this company. They want to pay me a total of $225 after losing and damaging my stuff well over $5000. They never communicated what kind of vehicle was being used for the delivery and then have the audacity to blame me saying that they don't have to say and I never communicated if my apartment would have access. I don't know if I am meant to be a mind reader to know what they are using to tell them if there will be access or not. Worst company ever!!!!! I can never ever recommend!!!
